It seems to work quite well, allowing him to focus on warfare instead of science Yeah, that definitely would be helpful if you are behind in tech. For my game, I used my agents as diplomats to put out cultural pressure because I was basically at tech parity with the science leader, and I needed to manipulate some of the world of congress resolutions. I think I triggered 3 revolutions and gave everyone else massive unhappiness for not having autocracy. It didn't really matter in the long run, but it was fun to do. Also, nothing beats having a ton of gold for effective warring. My army at the end of the game was something like 20 submarines, 6 battleships, 10 destroyers, 4 carriers, 40 bombers, 10 fighters, some paratroopers, tanks, and a bunch of other random units lying around. Pretty much all of it was rush bought. I also bought a few a-bombs to speed up the final campaign. Probably more important than anything else, airports make intercontinental warfare a lot less tedious.

Pretty much all of the conquest took place in a fairly short number of turns during the modern and atomic eras. Here are some thoughts: Late game combat was pretty fun. I used a lot more combined arms than I ever have in a game. The AI does okay at assembling naval forces, but at no point did I see a critical mass of enemy ships that could break my attacks (I had three large attack groups that each had a ton of air support). Autocracy kinda blows. The 2nd tier tenets are awesome, but the third tier tenets are all forgettable except to the 50-turn attack bonus. The science pace is really slow compared to G&K. Having Venice and Austria in the same game is super lame. The religion spread mechanics seem off. Submarines are too good. Autocracy is awesome for warring. There are some massive happiness bonuses. And it gave me stupid amounts of gold. I agree that the science pace is slow, but that's intentional. You take a 5% hit for every city. What about religion seems off? I have never really understood when a follower converts, but it still seems about the same? If I ever found a religion I generally just focus on getting that religion to my cities and then use the rest of my religion points to buy useful things like great persons.

Went for the Soshone first, they seem somewhat too powerful with the pathfinders at first glance. didn't really have a plan from the get go so just juggled around with everything to get a feel of the new mechanics. trade routes are nice if you can protect them properly, they also put out religious pressure. seems nice. after some time decided to go cultural, didn't expect much since I went for it somewhat late. figuring out tourism took a bit (+ modifiers for open borders, trade routes, same ideology etc. ), went very smooth. made a couple of mistakes as I royally pissed off a couple civs by nabbing their excavation sites but hey... all that pressure. world congress seems fun to fiddle around with, can really cripple some Civs with it, have to try that a little more. overall I quite like it.

I owned the game since release and it's really sad since I actually had fun with it again, but in this state it's unplayable. Also don't really wanna go to the extent to setup a VPN just to go around that problem. This is all still on G&K though. I don't know if these problems don't occurr anymore on BNW

They changed a lot of things regarding the multiplayer and now loading and hotjoining seems to cause more problems than before

Not to mention it seems really RNG on what Civs are in the game with you. Genghis Khan will wipe out a lot of the Civ states before you even have a chance to buy them, as will Austria.

I'm not sure if it's just when you're playing P2P, or if that problem occurs when you're on a dedicated server too. Anyone know?

Is it possible to have one save file for a BNW game and another one with BNW disabled. The reason I'm wondering is because I want to play both a BNW game and a game with G&K-mods without BNW, but I don't want to break the game so to say.
