i take the 15 magic pen in offense for madred's damage/ult/tristana's other magical abilities

build looks something like

doran's shield + hp pot
razors(get lizard if possible or go back to lane if it needs help)
merc treads
straight to bloodrazors
Frozen mallet
defensive items as needed. (banshee veil, etc)

if you arent getting targeted get starks intead.

Interesting... I usually rush damage items (b.f. sword to bloodthirster or inf. edge, both eventually, then a starks) and pound on towers during the gank phase after I jump a lane, but straight to bloodrazors isn't a bad idea either. Q gives you sick DPS and mallet + defensive items makes you way less squishy.

What's a good build on Soraka? I've been playing so much Annie in pub games where I can just go mindless AP stacking so I'm probably pretty bad at item builds :p

At least with the Sorakas I've been playing with, all they do is follow the nuker around... Which seems pretty boring =/

Pokey posted a very good build on Soraka, it's linked to on the first page. Soraka's like a pseudo-tank; she initiates by baiting, and is very good at doing that. It takes a lot of discipline on the enemy team's side to NOT go after a Soraka, given that she's pretty tough to take down, but leaving her alone causes your team to become -MR stacked, so she forces decisions. And in a game like LoL, forcing the enemy to make decisions opens up the door for them to make the wrong decisions ^^

After a game Turkey and I played with some random pub Jax where we were Soraka and Shen and just babysat our Jax through the mid-late game, I've been sorta obsessed with the idea of support heavy teams rocking out with a Jax.

you know... i'm okay with bad players. they're bad, i get it. i can deal with it. i'm more easily frustrated/raged by feeders who don't listen. if you listen to the players doing well then you won't feed.

then there are the fucking babies. an annie rage-afk'd during one of my games because someone accidentally stole golem. annie had accidentally stolen lizard earlier but everybody just stayed quiet about it. then gets golem stolen, won't accept an apology, and just goes afk.

we were ahead 2 towers, 1 kill, and a dragon at that point. way to let your pride get in the way and just be a fucking baby.

Speaking of fucking rage, I can't even play because there's always a fucking lag spike that stays for 15~45 seconds where the screen freezes, and then my ping goes up to 3k+ after, and everything that happened between that span of time happens in 0.1 seconds. It is soo fucking gay. My internet is fine, and when i play other games, there isn't a lag spike. -_______-

I had some success with a build. (Not gonna go into runes since idk what's optimal).
for abillities you can either go for Starcall or infuse (Starcall I prefer if you haven't that much damage on your lane and infuse is more if you lane with someone where you can sit back or your opponents team have nunu).
WE/QW/EQWR then íf your got infuse, get it to lvl 3 or if you got Starcall start getting infuse to lvl 5.
BO: boots, ward and health potion -> catalyst -> merc tread's -> RoA -> Innervating locket (here most games end) -> zhonya's / archangels.
You can also go innervating locket before RoA if needed.

And yes, locket does a shit ton of healing, don't skip it.

Usually when I play soraka I rush an innervating locket and end the game with a push as soon as I get it. Skill build was q @ level one then whatever you think you need. If you're up against someone like ryze get at least one rank of infuse and laugh at him everytime he runs in because your range is longer than his (if you didn't know you can use infuse as a silence/mini nuke). I just played it by ear usually, if we're getting heavily harassed more heal, if we're doing well more mana. The first rank in Q was because of how the assist system works, but with the new system coming in next patch you won't need to do damage to rack up the assists so you could probably skip it and ignore it until mid game/teamfights

I'm notoriously bad at playing with people that aren't good, but I hate the people that like, in one game today with Nuj and Linner, this Pantheon ended 1-11-1 and was bitching about the game being over for ~20 minutes. Hey, if the guy that's carrying the team as best as he can is bitching, go right ahead, but when you're the main cause of the disaster... :p

Soraka with Leviathan is amazing, I suggest you give it a shot on her. 2 stacks for assists is huge when you just locket + starcall the whole teamfight and bust heals/teamheal when needed.

Lol, holy crap! I've always gotten Rylai when I wanted HP bonus without ever noticing this. It really is good for Soraka! If I buy more than one of these, do they stack?

Nope. The item says "Unique Passive", ergo it does not stack.

I'm torn about Mejai's on Karthus. On the one hand, it's amazing if you just consistently and safely snipe kills with Requiem. On the other hand, you're missing out on a great passive and most of your damage comes from Defile. Also, you don't get Mejai's stacks for kills when you're dead (though you get them for assists for some reason...)
