And the Wizard fire sale has produced very few wins for the benefactors, not exactly Pau Gasol level impact.

DAMN i guess that's a product of kobe's 9 TO's, the laker's 32% shooting and the thunder's 53% shooting...they might as well just play all their bench players in the 4th

I wasn't referring to their finish of their season but rather the playoff implications. And this article annoys me...even as a Lakers fan: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/dan_shaughnessy/03/29/duncan.spurs/index.html Sorry he doesn't feel the need to replace a Ferrari logo with something like TD21, Dan Shaughnessy.

He also considers Shaq a clearcut top 10 player, and puts Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Julius Erving, Elgin Baylor, Hakeem Olajuwon, Charles Barkley, Karl Malone and Kevin McHale. Oh, and let's not forget Bob Pettit, Moses Malone, John Stockton and Isiah Thomas. ahead of Duncan.I'm guessing his criteria is best offensive players, and then add in a Boston bias to include Bill Russell.

Duncan's defense doesn't get enough credit, but top 10? Really? He gets credit for a few truly monster playoffs, but look at who he's getting compared with. Those guys were mostly great defenders too.

Which of those top 10 is Shaq definitely better than? Is Shaq clearly ahead of Hakeem? I mean, I think people voted Kobe as player of the decade ahead of Shaq, so are both Kobe and Shaq top 10? After Jordan Magic and Bird, it gets murky.

Even without the statistics (which are hugely in Shaq's favor,) he was the most dominant player in the NBA by far, for about 4-5 years. Ask Chris Webber what he thinks about Shaq.

It's honestly hard to say either is better. The main problem I have with the article is that the writer hangs on some bullshit flair as a starting point for his argument then proceeds to list great players that isn't really comparable positionally (how the fuck do you compare Duncan to Kobe without introducing massive bias?). I would say top 5 teams (1st team, 2nd team, etc.) would include Tim Duncan at PF/C.

Duncan and Shaq are the best two players still playing, followed by Kobe (LeBron isn't there yet since he's only played for 6-7 years)

There are always standouts like MJ, Bird, Magic, Kareem, Wilt and Shaq, but from then on in there are just so many good players no one can ever produce an agreeable list. How do you compare positions? What criteria makes someone a top 10 player of all time anyway? Barkley and Malone were both great players, but never won championships -- does this automatically exclude them? It's always going to be too hard, but sports commentators will continue to do it as it always stirs controversy and sells ads.

If you can't make it to the pinnacle then you aren't one of the greatest, I don't see how that's arguable that guy's list is laughable though. Mchale? barkley? karl malone? pfft
