Review time XL Project XL Project does a lot more than just Touhou music. They do a lot of anime remixes as well. Their songs have a characteristic style so that you can almost immediately tell if you hear their songs. A very laid back electronic style some with vocals and others without This album we have is called The Starry Sky + Show Spoiler + ![]() First off, I really like the album art so didn't bother uploading a smaller one ![]() 01. A Shadow in the Blue Sky 02. Captain Murasa 03. Shanghai Teahouse ~ Chinese Tea 04. The Traditional Old Man and the Stylish Girl 05. Locked Girl ~ The Girl's Secret Room 06. Interdimensional Voyage of a Ghostly Passenger Ship 07. At the End of the Spring & Emotional Skyscraper ~ Cosmic Mind 08. Paradise ~ Deep Mountain So first is an introduction pretty typical of a lot of the albums since Touhou games in general have their own introduction/title screen themes the circles can work off with. This introduction is the title screen theme for UFO: A Shadow in the Blue Sky. The track is very powerful and segues straight into the next song, a nice transition to the next song. I found it interesting that this is the only character theme that I know with the character's name in the title. Any relevance? Probably not ![]() The third song of the track is Shanghai Tea House ~ Chinese Tea. This one is very laid back, with minimal vocals. This song was weird. It's hard to pick out the original song melody because of the slow tempo of the song and weird voice distortions... Didn't really like it very much. However the song does pick up at the halfway point and you can definitely hear the melody. Next we have The Traditional Old Man and the Stylish Girl. Well the original song by ZUN was kind of weird and sounded euphonically a bit off. It could be intentional to create tension but I digress. Well XL Project certainly cleans it up. The original I felt was a bit lacking. You have a giant mancloud with Death Fists ready to smash you (credits to Aeres for providing the image), and the song I feel doesn't really capture the image. XL Project's version definitely gives it more intensity, but not exactly the image, as the group's music in general is more laid back, but nevertheless, does an excellent job. And that part at 3:12 is so awesome. So awesome I had to upload the video when I couldn't find it ![]() Locked Girl ~ The Girl's Secret Room is the next song, and the original is so good that I have yet to hear a remix that is bad. This one is exceptionally done with beautiful vocals by mintea. It may venture a bit from the original melody, but nevertheless the end result is beautifully done. Next we have Interdimensional Voyage of a Ghostly Passenger Ship. The original is pretty fun and uh springy? XL Project kind of tones it down a bit into a more mellow piece but still retains the qualities of the original. Good but nothing too spectacular So this one is a combo of At the End of the Spring and Emotional Skyscraper ~ Cosmic Mind. I love both song very much and was very excited to hear both in the same track ![]() Finally we have Paradise ~ Deep Mountain. Seems kind of random for having 3 random PCB songs. Could have made it a pure UFO album, but it was their decision. I enjoyed the vocals in the song except when she pretty much cracks her voice trying to reach that one high note... ouch... She does it better the third time, a bit more quieter though ![]() Overall an enjoyable album, with more good then bad, with my favorites being the second, fourth, and seventh tracks.

![]() While I'm here, I might as well throw out some songs. + Show Spoiler [Songs] + The first song coming your way is Shanghai Teahouse ~ Chinese Tea, by Neutral. It's from their Acoustic Shooter album, which is (surprise?) all acoustic guitar. Nice and mellow compared to their other stuff, and a refreshing change of pace. + Show Spoiler [Chinese Tea] + Second is Yellow Zebra's take on The Fantastic Legend of Tohno. One of my favorite songs from the group, just because Yuki's vocals mesh so well with the tune. + Show Spoiler [The Fantastic Legend of Tohno] + Next at bat is Demetori's Solar Sect of Nuclear Fusion. I've said before that I'm not a fan of the thrash style that Demetori and similar circles favor... but you know? They're growing on me. + Show Spoiler [Nuclear Fusion] + Fourth in line is Magus Night, from dBu Music's latest album, Scherzo of Fairy Wars. I simply love this track, partly because dBu is awesome, partly because I ADORE the full-on abuse of high notes throughout the track, and partly because The Witches' Ball ~ Magus makes a cameo around the 3:30 mark. + Show Spoiler [Magus Night] + Also from dBu is Green-Eyed Jealousy. So many good songs from Demon Tale Sonata, but this one is up there, because the jazzy take is really nice. I feel like Green-Eyed Jealousy is one of those songs that can have anything done with it, as long as it's slow, and dBu excels here. + Show Spoiler [Green-Eyed Jealousy] + Keeping in line with the jazz theme is Xi-on's The Gensokyo the Gods Loved, from the 6th Spell. Not much to say about this, other than it fucking rocks, in the calmest way possible. + Show Spoiler [The Gensokyo the Gods Loved] + Departing from the relaxed beat comes the power metal of IRON ATTACK!, with a double whammy of Extend Ash ~ Hourai Victim into Gensokyo Millennium ~ History of the Moon from their album, Arashi no Hurricane. Extend Ash lasts about a minute, but I really like the choral part that leads into the main melody halfway through, and then full-on blasts into History of the Moon. + Show Spoiler [Extend Ash / History of the Moon] + Dark PHOENiX, not to be outdone, makes it into this list with ShotShell III's Voyage 1969. This song is fairly unmemorable in Imperishable Night, but as usual, this circle makes it kickass. The dichotomy between soft synth and piano, and heavy guitar, makes this track one of my favorites from DP. + Show Spoiler [Voyage 1969] + Next is Dark Side of Fate, from C-CLAY's RAY-MEI. It's fairly slow for a Dark Side of Fate track, and honestly unremarkable until the chorus, but that chorus... wow. Amazing stuff. + Show Spoiler [Dark Side of Fate] + Well, we've reached the last song. Let's end this list with a bit of... insanity, eh? + Show Spoiler [U.N. Owen was Her?] + I'll probably do an image reel tomorrow morning. It's the start of the third quarter tomorrow, and I need to get some sleep...

I was debating to review this one or Color of Life and the latter is definitely a lot more bass heavy lol + Show Spoiler + Don't worry, not everyone has same tastes~ Maybe if make you listen to more of these, they will grow on you ![]() :O acoustic guitar album?!?!? I'll let you struggle for a few hours trying to figure it out. EDIT: Satori Maiden doesn't count, because Satori is the name of her species, not just Komeiji herself.

+ Show Spoiler + Watatsuki's Spellcard ~ Lunatic Blue It's from + Show Spoiler + the album that comes with the Touhou manga Silent Sinner in Blue. Actually, this song is one of four character themes with the character's name in it (the other three being The Grimoire of Alice, Alice Maestra, and Alice in Wonderland). Captain Murasa doesn't count, because Minamitsu is herself a murasa, a type of youkai. It's like Satori in this sense, because Satori is a satori.

![]() She's the younger of the two Watatsuki sisters, who are high-ranking officials within the Lunarian capital where Eirin Yagokoro once mentored the two. As the head of the Lunarian Defense Corps, Yorihime is a highly skilled swordsman and, like Reimu, is capable of summoning the gods to assist her in combat. Reisen used to be her pet, and Yukari has a deep grudge against her for foiling her plans to invade the Moon a thousand years ago.

Like the art, music, and the games--both doujin and official ones. Meh-tier in the latter (IMO, don't know the standard of a "good" player around here, so I'll go with that). To be on-topic, I've read Silent Sinner in Blue. Can't provide a significant opinion since I'm no manga veteran or something like that. Did make me wonder about the acceptance of danmaku battles in areas where new characters appear (referring to the official "stuff") though. + Show Spoiler + If I remember correctly, the protagonist(s) had to teach the Watatsuki sisters (for a lack of a better word, how to danmaku) in order to resolve their problems without resorting to "literal" violence. In my mind, I'd imagine some sort of behind-the-scenes thing where she'd have to explain these rules before engaging the enemy in battle, which would be awkward, to say the least.

I think that the whole "battle only via danmaku" guideline is sort of an honor code, because a bunch of Reimu's opponents (the Scarlet sisters, Suika, Suwako, Shou, Tenshi, Yukari, etc) can fucking stomp Reimu in seconds in a real battle. Reimu is only human, after all, and most of her foes are youkai, which isn't really a fair contest. Danmaku allows Reimu to show her ability adequately. It is odd that someone like, say, Utsuho would agree to such terms (after all, she's trying to destroy the world, so why not use her powers to just kill Reimu?), but I guess youkai tend to be more reasonable than people in the real world.
