So if you can't tell already from the album art and song list, this is entirely from Perfect Cherry Blossoms, which was the first Touhou game I played and holds a special place in my heart <3


First song is an introduction with epic guitar chords going duuuunnnnn with soft piano conveying the theme that something crazy is about to begin. Only 47 seconds long so pretty short

Second is Deep Mountain. Seems pretty standard with guitar solo playing the melody and rhythm guitar playing the chords in a constant fashion. Drums are pretty light in this song. well... not light but slower paced I should say. Loved the mini drum solo (more like an extended fill) at 2:33. Then at the very end, in like the last 15 seconds, the song speeds up and creates this tension and abruptly ends. I actually really liked it. Contrasting with the slower paced rock version.

Next we have Crystallized Silver. This is one of their songs with a really heavy intro. With purely drums and rhythm guitar, DA DUUNNNNNNNnnnnn DA DUNNNNNNnnnnnn with drum accompaniment. Then comes in solo guitar with melody. Pretty short song, only 1:57 but then again this song isn't very long to begin with. Strangly enough, ends the same way they started to with the snare drum in sync with the rhythm guitar

The Capital City of Flowers in the Sky is up next. Now personally, I've only ever heard this song in soft arrangements. So when they started this with this ultra heavy opening I was not expecting this song:

This song seems pretty standard though. Nothing too special or outstanding. The intro was a bit too heavy for me though heh

The next song starts off with this Rhythm guitar drum sync intro. Then goes straight into this awesome guitar solo riff. Then enters the melody. I personally think the original version of this song is just okay, but this song made me head bang once the main melody dropped out and the rhythm guitar section was featured for the brief few seconds at 0:54 + Show Spoiler + I loved the slower rock feel that this song had throughout. Nice smooth guitar solo at 2:11.
Then this slow down into this awesome acoustic guitar solo at 3:10. Then the rest of the instruments kick back into yet another guitar solo. The end is a long epic guitar solo lasting over a minute into a perfect fadeaway. I normally do not like fadeaways as I feel like they are cheating, but this one fits really well. Although it was quite long at 6:03, it was able to keep engaged throughout the entire song. With plenty of variations and guitar solos, this is one of the best songs on this album.

Next up is Ancient Temple. Ah, now if you need a break from all that rock, this song provides so. Nice, soft, simple, and yet beautiful arrangement. Just kick back and relax yet enjoy the intensity of the chorus as the piano, bass and soft rhythm guitar takes you away; indeed to the Ancient Temple.

Ugh. The intro riffs were horrible. Why couldn't they do a standard guitar intro, but instead opted for this synth introduction. Once the main song kicks in it gets better but D:

Next song we have Ultimate Truth. Really heavy intro that I didn't like too much. Interestingly enough they managed to play the melody with a piano and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Until they repeated the intro again at the end. Short song as all (well most) Ultimate Truth remixes are.

I'm a sucker for acoustic guitar but not ones that are out of tune...
seriously... listen to it and you'll get what I mean

Oh boy, this one's a doozy. If you though the Ultimate Truth started with a bang, this intro really gets started up. The more heavier the song gets, the more harder it is for me to comment as everything starts to sound the same lol. The slow down at 3:00 into a smoother guitar solo and a more subdued melodic line. Then this epic speed up with insane guitar solo/riff and orchestral playing the melody to the end. And then it ends with a gong. seriously a gong. :facepalm: why in the world would you put that in and ruin the epic moment T_T.
I'm guessing this was supposed to be the "main feature" of the album and it fits the bill.
On a side note, this song is technially "Bloom Nobly, Cherry Blossoms of Sumizome ~ Border of Life" then into "Border of Life" I'm honestly not too sure on the details on the differences although Aeres I think told me once

The next song is Dream of a Spring Breeze. Which is the ending theme of Perfect Cherry Blossoms. And its a really soft piece with piano and acoustic guitar. Hm nothing really special honestly. Nothing like the other songs in the album

Ah probably my favorite song of the entire album. Perfect level of "heaviness" in my opinion. I even uploaded this one as I couldn't find it on youtube

I absolutely loved the intro and it's hard for me to describe, but everything about this songs was perfect... until the premature cutoff of the ending. I was literally crying when they did this.
It was suppose to directly connect into the next song...

Finally we have our next song. And it's a dual song containing Mystic Dream ~ Snow or Cherry Petal and Necrofantasia. And its a monster in length, clocking in almost 12 minutes. So first part is the Mystic Dream, which is the opening theme for PCB. And when this started, the song sounded like it would come from one of the Megaman games lol. I was pretty surprised at how they were able to make an opening song last so long. But it wasn't boring or anything.
Now then there is this super long pause for some reason in this song... over 30 seconds long. Then a soft music box melodic line into faded thunder to epic organ intro. Then Necrofantasia starts playing. This one also seems pretty typical stuff. Nothing really special that got me into it.

Hm... enjoyed the album. I do admit some of the introductions were a bit too much, but once the melody kicked in, it became alright.

I also played some SHMUP on snes but I can't remember the name, it was pretty good too :}
