Nope! I loved the PvE. Maybe because it was my first mmorpg, but it was just awesome.

Wow I missed out. Didn't think there'd be so much GW talk here.
On August 19 2009 04:06 Ace wrote:Ver where are you? Should we go rejoin iQ? I was talkin to Zrave the other day and vent and I told him I quit the original because it was just turning to shit after the GWWC. V_V
Hahaha wow Zrave is still around? Did you even tell anyone why you left originally? As far as I knew you just vanished. Kinda like I did lolol.

JeeJee mid October 05 sounds about right for your ladder. It was in the first month of the GWWC ladder season.
As for GW2, I'm not getting my hopes up. Anet had a really really good product but they succeeded in only making it worse. GW PvP was really really fun once they balanced spirit spam and started the GWWC but the expansions (lol nightfall) and lack of money tournaments after GWFC kinda killed it imo. Still for that one glory year, it was an incredible game.
Ensign is still around huh. Hi to my favorite teammate ^_^

PvE was fun, but got bored after I finished the original story twice (never played the expansions)
i remember destroying kids in hall of heroes with a totally random pickup group that just used spirit spam

holy crap - never realized so many old-school GW members posted here
stuff I remember from back when the game was fun: Air spike (it got so much unjustified hate) IWAY (irritating when like 80% of HoH was that) Posting on TGH/GWGuru before they turned to shit Begging the Anet team for all sorts of stuff (that old unlock system was soooooo bad) Getting stomped by WM A ridiculous amount of theorycraft
seperation of pvp and pve skills -- ie nerfs to pvp skills didnt effect pve and vise versa observer mode automated tournaments with pre-determined map selection smaller, more often balance patches that would only slightly tweak skills in game character creation screen that allowed you to create/modify pvp weapons and armor without having to reroll Why wasn't this done earlier!? Would have been nice to have it back when I was still playing...instead of 1-2+ years after I quit

Would have been nice to have it back when I was still playing...instead of 1-2+ years after I quit A-Net kept saying the pvp-pve separation (making and keeping updated 2 different skill sets and stuff) was extremely bad and stuff, basically what they meant is that they are the lazy retards who would much rather see their players drop and have pvenoobs register free accounts that we know them as basically since 2 months after Factions launched...
Observer mode has been a staple in GW since it came out and tbh it was the best thing after GvG till the 1st week of EotN (LoD nerf -.-).
Also, to the oldfag wave who quit around when the koreans quit themselves i can't but say that the skill level fell sharply but raised incredibly with the euro wave of former [EW] and with [vD], that led americans to cry their way to selling their accounts and eventually retiring to the utmost failure that the QQ forums became.
GW was so awesome, the history and drama can totally compare to those in the SC scene.

I started playing GW 6 months after it came out and pve'd until a little after Faction's came out. HA'd for a 1.5 years then got into GvG. The amount of time this game has been out and I still find the PvP enjoyable is crazy, I got a silver trim for the first time in the mAT Saturday. Despite Anet being able to screw their game up more so than any other company I've seen, they made such a good product that I still love it. If they learn from the mistakes they've made GW2 will be amazing, UAX from the start, better balancing, pve/pvp split, and more listening to the community. All these things have been implemented but it took them too long to do it and they lost many of their players. I just hope that I'm through with navy A-school when this game comes out.
Its crazy seeing so many ex-iQ players on TL, they were the guild I was in love with.

i wish i could add something to this.. but my memory is notoriously bad ^^ the only thing i remember ( infact the only number i remember) is 126.. corpse explosion damage at 16 death.. with 0 cooldown? aww yeahhhh
edit: yeah come to think of it, singletonwilliam has a point.. seems everyone on TL were in iQ lol. L was in .. EW was it? or something european iirc

I remember when anet opened a 6th spot to go to Cologne for the factions championship and iQ and everyone else running thumpers with smite. Also the rumors floating around that iQ was on speed cause they played soooo much during that three day time span.

I think this is true. I faintly remember logging into vent and hearing Eonwe or Ensign talking about "having to make into the next tournament so everyone clear your fucking schedules" lol.
@Ver: Yea I kinda disappeared. It was more along the lines of "hey guys, I gotta do the school thing and I'm getting bored Anet's shitty policies QQ".
@r33k: GW had an INSANE amount of PvP drama. I'm kinda upset I can't remember it all but there was always someone arguing about something. I remember one time we got accused of stealing some other team's build (they failed with it) and someone was like "we didn't steal it - we made it better" and then there was a 50 page forum flame war lol. There were the "elite guilds" that everyone viewed in the game as the "bad guys" when in reality it was just the way the game worked. Not everyone could get into every top guild as it's hard to know how good everyone is individually. Also before Iway, before Ranger spike there was Air Spike - THE original build that had people going fucking crazy.
I also remember when GWGuru first started and I used to post there and be helpful. Out of no where it turned into a shitfest, then the PvE mothersite with special visits from Gaile Grey their fairy godmother

the best thing about air-spike was in the gwwc* (i think) where rifts came up against war machine and berry and (bad-face, cant remember other monk :< ) disobeyed jang and put mantra of lightning on their bars. oh the rollery. nothing better than some gimmic getting called out and stomped by a hard-counter.
actually no, the real best thing about air-spike was te trying to revive it in the gwfc (against iQ?) and getting their shit pushed in. worst idea ever. =D
*actually that can't be right, rifts didnt make it and qualifiers were regional. i have no idea when that happened.

wow. so many pvp players here...
I would add to this builds chainlighting spike, obsidian spike (hello ruscorp) and chain KD (shock + gale + bullstrike + hammer + cripling rager with blackout = insta win: D)
_ Kaer Morhen and not So Gosu <3

well what did you expect, a SC site bound to have tons of PvP players
While I disliked GW PvE after doing it once I still think the PvE community was really good. It was just Anet's treatment of one side that naturally bred animosity. Presearing was a really, really fun time. Almost as fun as the E34Everyone event that started everything.

Mitch was awesome because he was an awful player, Kaon was... Pretty much a genius of mind games who was actually able to get 3/4 casts w/ his sole reflexes while playing w/ 200ms of lag.
Thinking back about GW makes me want to have been more consistent and i would have faced those players more often while in serious guilds, not while BYOBing or as Fin's replacement for the Finns...

For all the people reminiscing about the overpowered gimmick builds and hating them, a lot has changed in terms of skill balance since then haha. It may as well be almost a totally new game with totally new skillsets.. VoD doesn't even exist anymore either. Not to say it isn't still without flaws, but yeah.
