I am getting worried Scarlett might not play tomorrow I can't see blizzard saying you can't play in both and allowing her to so I mean something has to be said at some point right? Tomorrow's match is, iirc, technically a "WCS Challenger" event which might have different rules from the rest of the WCS Circuit events, but we still don't have any information for the rest of the WCS season outside WCS Winter (tomorrow's match), *IEM Katowice, GSL S1-3, and GSL Super Tournament 1-2. Since Scarlett is in the groups for WCS Winter and GSL S1 Code S, we just have to assume that there aren't any issues between those two tournaments. We'll have to wait + Show Spoiler + and wait and wait and wait some more

Feardragon said "officially" that Scarlett is playing in WCS Winter. In an interview after the GSL qualifiers, Scarlett said "Because of the change in the system, this could be my last GSL, depending on how Challenger is, so I want to do as well as I can..." If Special wasn't allowed to play, they might have treated the qualifiers as the "challenger" and the ladder race could have been considered differently.

She joined Newbee, and there's the upcoming Chinese league. She might stay in KR anyway, at least some times, whether it be to practice, play in the Chinese league, or just because she might prefer it there.

And yes, this changes drastically the Unity House situation... it probably means they have to look for a smaller house or invite korean/chinese/SEA players to fill the place, since without GSL the europeans have no reason to go anymore. What it's obvious is that Blizzard's communication this year is just terrible... And I assume they are still working through the details, but jesus christ, announcing big things a couple of days before it happens is a huge disrespect for the pros...

If it's like last year (1.4k$ and 200 wcs max.) maybe it's worth it to try GSLs and then go to the open braket in the WCS stops... but if they change the system who knows.... Maybe this time she wants to go hard on the World WCS to "secure" the Blizzcon spot idk. Her bracket is hard, but then again all of them are, so... She would have to win over Hero and Showtime (maybe aLive depending on the lower bracket thing). It's hard of course, but doable.

We tested a rule change for players competing in Season 1 of GSL, restricting them from participating in Season 1 of WCS Challenger. Our goal was to limit the number of WCS Circuit players who would compete in the Korean tournament, but instead it caused all but one of the registered Circuit players to pull out of the GSL competition. That was not our intention, and we are rolling back this rule for Season 2 and 3, bringing the residency rules back to as they were in 2018. Well there’s the answer on region lock

So basically they thought a lot of top WCS pros (uThermal, Neeb, Special, Scarlett, etc.) would try to qualify for GSL and leave Challenger, but they decided to forfeit GSL or what?... because if their goal was to limit WCS players compiting in GSL they did hit it... I mean only Scarlett, Sortof and Cloudy tried, and only Sasha did qualify... ![]() Anyway, good news for her, right? She will be able to play WCS and the best global league also.

Skipping Challenger is a pretty big sacrifice. You lose not only prize money, but WCS points, a Ro32 seed (no joke, even good players get upset in the open bracket), and travel costs. Not surprised most players would choose that over GSL. I wonder if Scarlett would have picked differently if she knew that Blizzard would change the rule and make it so there is no penalty in Season 2 and 3 (so it wouldn't be her 'last'). Blizzard really made a mess of things. If they had made the annoucements in a timely manner, they would have gotten the feedback rather than last minute confusion that ruined many players plans.

Confusing everybody else is kinda whatever, but throwing a wrench in the competitors' plans, people moving all over the world, that's just... ugh. I guess things sorta kinda maybe worked out? Eh, not really... But they kinda sorta fixed it (for now) so that's fine. We'll see how the rest of the year goes, crossin' my fingers and toes for everything to go well!
