Really? One of the best male debuts of 2012 imo. Both Exos failing, or just exo-k?
Both really. My friends echo what has been said in this thread before, that the rush of idol groups really hasn't done much. What I hear is that basically the last group to hit any sort of real popularity/mainstream recognition is A Pink, and even then they're barely known and only Eunji is known on an individual member basis (for Reply 1997). At this point it's just that the number of groups have saturated the market, and even if you're talented or pushed well (and as a group that had something like 3 dozen teasers leading up to their debut EXO sure was promoted) there's just too many groups vying for attention. Even groups that have sort of caught on in the international community like BAP aren't really well known- like I said, AKP prints a lot of shit and Korean entertainment news sites are known to accept money in return for positive articles (MYNAME lately has been the biggest culprit of this) and generally shitty journalism in general (the same reason ESPN broadcasts really dumb stories, because on a 24/7 cycle you just need shit to report), which leads to the false perception in the international community that Koreans really know who these dudes are. The only idol acts that have really caught on from 2nd half of 2011 onward are like Juniel and Ailee (and Busker Busker if you count them, which I don't). Everyone else has largely gone unrecognized, or are popular only among whatever the Korean equivalent of wotas are.
I figured this was the case, but for EXO, really surprised. Mama and History were really good imo. Even the Mando-pop equivalent.
I'm somewhat sure the new YG girl group will be successful but I'd say it's only because it's YG. Their fans seems to be more on the same page and everyone supports everyone pretty much. A big company behind you is great but it it only goes so far.
Look at GangKiz for example. Spent a fuck ton on MV's, mad hype etc and now where are they? Like 10:ish months since they released anything and I haven't heard anything about them either.
Seven months, with which CCM pushed T-ara, debuted The Seeya + secondary promo, and ...redebuted(?) Speed. Not like there was any room to have them make a comeback. Granted an OST or variety/drama/movie face time would have been a sign of health. - Evidently, one of the actress members did have a small part in a drama during the down time.
I'd buy this explanation if it was a small company.. but it's CCM... Argh I want a comeback so badly lol. Their album is actually sick good.

I guess this explains why 2012 rookies pushed Japan, SEA and Oceania pretty hard. What would it take to actually get noticed in Korea and have people give a shit? Rape the billboard chart?

Koreans don't care about idols to be quite frank. Koreans especially don't care about SME's music.
Ye I really liked Gangkiz stuff too, especially the MVs. I read the group was composed of 4 models and 3 actresses, like they were not even trying to pretend they had at least one vocalist in there. I guess it's time to forget about them at this point.

All speculation on my part but I think it'd take a seriously good song. A kind of Tell Me/Gee kinda thing, or if not that good at least a BGGG which I don't know is even possible in today's market. It's entirely possible that a group could come out with a catchy song like that and just become completely overlooked because they're the 3rd group to debut that week or something.
on an unrelated note it's Naeun's birthday in 4 days. My laziness and amount of schoolwork is warring with the feeling that I need to prepare something...

Hyuna, but as a wise group once said, "Nothing lasts forever". At least there's still Minah's sister, but really, with a name like Bang Hyuna the purity won't last for too long.
I can't tell if its a joke but Bang Hyuna's not her name its Hyemi.

Bang Hyuna is the Minah's (Girl's Day) sister. She's a CCM trainee.
