well japan has been experiencing a decline in physical sales over the past few years due to the rising popularity of downloading (via services similar to itunes). their chart, the oricon doesn't take it into account.
for japan, singles and albums are listed on separate charts. a successful single/album would probably be considered to be in the top 50 end-of-the-year charts. for singles, that mark would be 100,714 for 50th place (1st place in 2009 is 655,498). for albums, 50th place is 133,098 (1st place 1,326,959 and 2nd place 1,243,298).
so yes, japan gets much higher sales on average, which is why a lot of successful korean are crossing over to japan.
When you say sites similar to itunes, what do you mean exactly because I have no idea how to get any kpop or jrock thats not on itunes (most of it). I really don't want to use limewire, I want to get this stuff legally but I don't know where to go

Getting stuff legally is pretty simple. There are a few sites that ship asian/Kpop albums overseas. One I can recall is yesasia.com which seems to be popular. No idea how more/less expensive it is than buying a retail copy from a store but that doesn't seem to be an option for you anyways.
Now Jonghyun has piggie flu. All my favorite members are going down with it. I am apathetic to JYP's mind games using the count down clock on their official site. The new song is -_________-

LOL Hyoyeon in last place?! No way! (Sarcasm) Sunny shouldn't be so behind though; all well someone has to be in that spot.

Yeah, someone has to end up in last. It's all for a good cause (some sort of charity).
Anyone know if the 2PM auction is still going on? Last I heard they reopened it after the bidding got jacked up by non-serious buyers.
wow, i'm not surprised by Hyeoyeon, but i'm definitely surprised by how low Sooyoung is. Both her and Hyeyeon received paltry bids. I always thought Sooyoung is one of the more pretty SNSD girls and she has such a great attitude in the game shows.
