If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.gg

Beats me, I honestly don't even want to bother at this point but I am a sucker for reading things so at some point I'll read it all. Probably.

Or I'll just hold skip through Manami route stuff. That works too.

lolol there is an end with Manami's brother apparently.

EDIT - hmm after reading more carefully apparently the flowchart is just done in kind of a weird way, might be able to do Kirino route without all that stuff. Hope that's the case -.-

Yeah, and it loosely means 'plain girl'. Though jimi is rather worse in connotation than plain is in English.

No, 幼馴染 (osananajimi) vs 地味 (jimi), the jimi from the former is actually najimi, completely unrelated, but an interesting observation of romanji.

Can anyone that's watched Kare Kano tell me how they liked it? Compared to the likes of Nodame Cantabile, for instance.

How long does it take to go through a VN once without a walkthrough, given that I have never played one before? I kind of want to try one, but I don't really want to invest a lot of time into it.

Well it depends on the size of the VN in question...for Key games you have like 20+ hours worth of voicing if you are to listen to everything, for sure. I guess a solid 10+ hours on the games that are actually made with you reading them in mind. Not sure really, never tried to count the time I spend.

depends on the VN, how fast you read, how much you skip and if you want to listen to the voiceacting.

I'd say roughly 6-8 hours maybe for one route. VNs with multiple routes can take a lot more time liek Clannad. And when you want to play a VN without walkthrough you better take some hours extra when you want to play the whole thing without a walkthrough.

Well necessity of walkthrough really depends on the VN in question. Most modern day eroges won't give you that many weird options (a notable exception in the ___ Days series) and something like Umineko just goes around without any choices at all (till ep8). Though for anything by Key or Type-Moon, just use a walkthrough, it'll save you so much time/

Who uses ō in real life? Would you like me using Japanese style romanization and using a single o to denote oo or ou sounds?

Also even if it is an incorrect (technically) transliteration, speak ローマ字 aloud and what do you get? romanji. This is one of the things where I personally prefer using a more inaccurate but commonly recognized romanization to get the point across. Following the structured rules often won't mean anything but to those who have learned the said rules, others just read aloud as their own language would read and get completely different results.

The same thing but romanized according to the Wikipedia standards, romaji would be a proper Japanese romanization. Romanji would be the incorrect romanization from sound due to the hidden n sound after roma.

My point is that its derived from "Roman", so whats the problem saying "Romanji" if it both comes from "Roman" and sounds close enough to "Roman-ji"? Is he going to complain if someone takes another western word that gets absorbed into Japanese that originally ends with an '-er', and complain that we aren't typing it with '-a'?

Maybe Gundam should like 'Gandamu' or something, lol. This whole thing is pretty frivolous.

Thanks for missing my point. I could have written romaji (or roomaji) but that's not what this is all about (I just wanted to be accurate it's not like I would write with the omicron normally).

(BTW I never liked the way that the West romanises Japanese words (and place names etc.) since there's actually a difference between a short or long vowel)

Sentenal, it is a frivolous exercise of technicalities that most people won't even recognize properly. He is definitely right technically, but in terms of actual understanding over the internet I'd use romanji over romaji any day.

Common sense > rules, don't make me bring back the example of how I had to complain to fansubbers who used Tooko instead of Touko or Tohko.

Thanks for missing my point you mean? I acknowledged that you are right technically (or accurate), but in terms of people recognizing the word your proper spelling would be by far in the minority. Ever wondered how teh or pwned became proper netslang? Except in this case the rules are technicalities instead of something that actually governed a language, and the said rules aren't practiced except by those who learned the language in a certain way.

Of course Touko would be the correct one =) (Tohko if it's double 'oo' since it's still better than Toko if we decide not to use the omicron)

I understand your position but whenver I see romanji instead of romaji I just tend to think badly of the one who wrote it =)

Lets just end this argument and move on since we're probably derailing this thread.

Nah this thread is fine like this, you should look a couple of hundred pages back when Southlight and I started a whole thing when we were triggered by someone to read over some part in UBW and we had a page full of walls of text.

Actually why would you complain about romanji but not Touko? The latter is wrong by the rules that you are following 0.o
