Anime that I've enjoyed thus far: .hack//Sign, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Welcome to the NHK, and Shigofumi. If anything, I guess I'm looking for something dark like Shigofumi. Say I was an extreme sexual sadist, and you had to recommend me an anime. Which anime would that be? | ||

It's so hard to tell these days. Nah, Ga Rei kinda sucks all the way through. The anime is vastly vastly superior, I wouldn't bother with the manga at all. | ||

Now and Then, Here and There If you were an extreme sexual sadist, wouldn't that mean all the recommendations would be h stuff? I wouldn't call Ergo Proxy that emotional (or that good, though some people love it for reasons I cannot fathom), but it is somewhat dark. I guess I don't know a lot of anime that are both dark and emotional, but here goes: Dark: Texhnolyze (oooooh boy is this dark) Elfen Lied (yeah yeah, but it is fairly dark, in an over the top way) Serial Experiments Lain (but it's really mindfucky) Evangelion (see above, except that it isn't as good) Emotional: Kanon/Clannad/Air (if you're into that sort of thing) Ef (if you don't mind horrendous dialogue) I guess the closest thing to dark and emotional I know of is Saikano, except that it isn't very good. I recommend School Days and Haibane Renmei. Both kinda sorta fit (although you might be feeling different emotions than you expected and/or a lot of the darkness might be up for interpretation), but I'm recommending them for different reasons. School Days because it's required for the thread and Haibane Renmei because god dammit I will get people to watch this show. Sorry for the somewhat unhelpful post :p | ||

Also, adding to Ga-Rei I don't remember most of it, but I found it to be more comedic with action here and there... some parts were text heavy and boring... wasn't that bad nor that great, but I started w/ the manga first, so going into the anime my expectations weren't high. | ||
