If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.gg

For currently airing anime, please see Anichart.net

The best part about Legend of the Galactic Heroes, is this show doesn't make me feel old. Most of the characters are in their 30s or late twenties, and alot are even older than that. But then almost every other anime I ever watch, the characters are anywhere from like, 14 to 18 years old, and makes me feel ancient >_>

I'm finally in the 3rd season of LoGH. Right now it seems like this one is going to be about trying to free the Alliance from the empire, combined with that Earth Cult stuff. Will be interesting to see how this stuff unfolds.

I actually liked the first episode, and since I do enjoy a good trolling from time to time, but it seems alot of people don't agree with me about that lol

But Ga Rei Zero is a very good anime overall.

Oh, don't get me wrong, it was a pretty good first episode. It's just that the ending was a little... unorthodox. But something like this isn't so bad once in a while.

Edit: OreImo 11 is out. I got in on the IRC bot early, so ETA 14 minutes.
Did the episode get leaked or something? I was seeing screenshots of Mazui's subs way earlier today.

Edit 2: WTF new Mazui site layout.

Kuroneko be trollin'. And that nekomimi maid look fits her pretty well.

Kana Hanazawa ftw

I hope shes trolling Kirino. As im downloading this im greeted by this pic

That almost makes her like-able, but too bad it is probably completely irrelevant to her personality forever, so i'll still hate her.

Before it aired, the whole thing was marketed around those characters, we've all been trolled. It was an amazing idea.

Gonna watch Oreimo 11 in a little bit. I feel kinda meh after reading a spoiler from the novel, but since it's already near the end, I might as well continue it. Thing is, Kuroneko needs her own series, and so does Saori + Show Spoiler +

Touma ruins Index personally as a main protagonist. Railgun made a much better use for his character.

Misaka's stories are also a lot more believable.

the new OreImo episode was so awesome. When it started I thought to myself " Manami gets not enough screentime" and then there she is for the whole first part and the second part was hilarious as well

Yeah Oreimo 11 was sooo good in so many ways. Kiririn having a 180 degree turn in her attitude towards Yosuke, Manami getting screen time etc.

From Sankaku:

Tokyo’s ban on anime, manga and games featuring “virtual crimes” or which are “likely to interfere with the healthy development of youth” has passed after the DPJ agreed to support it.

+ Show Spoiler +
The DPJ’s only addition to the critical portion of the law was a short rider which requests “prudent application of the law in light of any artistic, social, scientific or satirical merits the work might express” – it does not however add any legal obligation to consider these, or establish any clear or indepdently enforced criteria for judging whether a work can be declared “harmful” or not.

Even more bizarrely, the final draft actually removed a passage that imposed “a duty not to possess [photographic] child pornography” on Tokyo residents, whilst leaving the section banning erotic manga and anime (and explicitly excluding photographic materials) all but unchanged – that the bill is intended exclusively as an “anti-otaku” law seems to be beyond doubt.

It is very difficult to objectively assess the scope of the law – along with vague and subjective terms like “interfere with the healthy development of youth,” the law also includes “etc.” on the end of most of its examples, leaving it quite unclear, for example, whether the “improper glorification of illegal sexual activity, etc.” applies to only virtual sex crimes, or all crimes in general – presumably the interpretation adopted will be whichever is convenient to censors.

Similarly, the ban’s mention of “rape and other sexual acts which violate societal norms” seems inevitably to point to a ban on depictions of homosexuality, considering who was behind the law.

The generally expected form the law will take is that of a “amakudari” (a pervasive system of sinecures for retired bureaucrats) body which will inspect all anime, manga and games, with only those titles receiving approval as “healthy” able to be sold regularly in Tokyo shops – the rest will be relegated to the “adult corner.”

The most immediate and direct effect of the law will almost certainly be to see ecchi manga such as To Love-Ru, bishoujo titles such as Champion Red and most BL manga, as well as any seinen manga with especially mature themes, banned from general sales – presumably most will then be cancelled due to a lack of suitable magazine or tankobon distribution channels, with a few perhaps being resurrected as 18+ ero-manga.

As has already been seen, publishers will also likely be purging future anime, manga and games of any content liable to fall foul of the law, and removing older titles from distribution.

The law probably also spells the end of most late night anime in Tokyo (and by extension, everywhere else), which it would appear to ban under its distribution clause; given the vague wording of the current season alone it seems Ore no Imouto, Panty & Stocking, Yosuga, Sora no Otoshimono, Milky Holmes and others would all fall foul of its various stipulations.

There is also some doubt as to whether Comiket will be able to be held under the new regulations – if not, its cancellation or removal to another prefecture seems likely, although a lack of sufficiently large spaces may severely complicate this.

The law comes into effect in July of 2011, so with magazine, tankobon, anime and game release schedules being what they are, it seems likely its effects will be felt much sooner; in a genuinely democratic state there might be scope to overturn it before then, but from what has been seen so far it seems unlikely publishers have the guts or savvy to do anything about it.

And I thought governments couldn't get any stupider in this issue after what the Australians (and our new JMStV) did. Looks fairly bad, doesn't it?

What is the view of the general public on that issue? I guess because it's marketed as child protection, like any other, not terrorism-related, bad and exploitative law in recent times, most people are in favor?

Thread related: I forgot the new OreImo episode tonight, going to watch that later. Still, WTF at Mazui's new site.

Instead I continued to watch Railgun currently just finished the Level Upper arc. That storyline alone was better than everything in Index combined, in my opinion. Also, Touma's appearances throughout Railgun are fine, and he is a much more likable person (for me) in this series.

Edit:

Watched OreImo 11. Woah, one of the best episodes so far. Kuroneko as a cat-maid. :D

More info:

-The bill has only been passed by a committee and has to go through the whole assembly. Still, it's likely to pass because the DPJ are backing them.

-Ecchi'ish shows can still be sold, but they will be marketed as 18+

-Thank god KyoAni is in Uji :3

Not sure what people think, since I can't read Japanese :|

I agree, Railgun was really good and I couldn't make myself watch half of Index. Haven't tried Index S2 though...

OreImo... Kirino replaced Nagi as the ultimate tsundere for me this episode * w * Ruri also too kawaii~

Railgun > Index. It was much more enjoyable than watching Touma's speeches all day long. >.>

Still, I really liked Index (not the show, the character)....so that's one of the reasons I still watch Index instead of reruns of Railgun for Misaka. >.>

Touma-like characters make me want to eat babies. They're all terrible.

Now that the latest season is coming to an end, I will ask again as I always do...what shows do you recommend from this past season? The only one guaranteed so far is Oreimo because of how much everyone's been talking about it, but I haven't really looked into it past that.

Most recent episodes of series this season are finally focusing on development. About time.

+1 on the Touma/Ichigo thing.

It depends on what sort of series you like; judging from what I've seen and heard from various circles there's pretty much almost everything for everyone this season.

OreImo is alright as long as you can stomach slow development, both plot-wise and character-wise.

MM! is alright as long as you remember not to take it too seriously (but it's the moe-blob of this season).

Index II only if you are a dedicated fan.

Yosuga no Sora is a pretty controversial series but I hear it has a great story hidden amongst its excessive ecchi material.

KamiNomi (The World God Only Knows) is pretty good, though given the rate that its going at, you're arguably better off reading the manga.

Ika Musume is a pretty cool sleeper series this season and is the only series to arguably maintain a consistency in its quality.

Tantei Opera Milky Holmes is clearly a lolz series; not meant to be taken seriously but it provides a good laugh on occasion.

Fortune Arterial if you're into more of a slice-of-life series with gradual plot development but its character development and execution is pretty much perfect (no herp-derp silly harem moments despite the series being listed as a harem).

This is only for the Tokyo Area, but still... T _ T

Source [NSFW]

apparently this law will kill half of the current anime/manga on the market...
i wonder how much this will improve the otaku life style(or NEET in general) which now has become a part of japanese culture...

Probably make it worse, you have just eliminated the one reason they have to actually leave the house. If they wanted to target NEET and hikkikomori, targeting MMOs are a much better idea. This is just stupidity at its best.

OreImo was okay, but not fantastic. Maybe it's worth seeing the first time, but I don't think I'd watch it again.

Yosuga no Sora is laughable at best. Watch for ecchi and wincest only.

Index II is very much the sequel for Index 1. -_-

Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru is very much a slice of life. It can be pretty funny at times though. Watch if you like Shaft comedies.

The World God Only Knows is just plain good. It's quite faithful to the manga too. My favorite show this season.

So really, there wasn't anything particularly noteworthy, imo.

Star Driver is was also decent this season. Super Robot Wars is a very good watch if you are a SRW-fan, or just a Mecha fan in general. DenYuuDen is almost over as well, and it has been a good show as well.
