I recently watched Gundam Seed (+ Destiny) after a friend's suggestion, and I throughly enjoyed it. I was wondering if there are any similar anime. I watched Gundam 00 and Wing, and while they were enjoyable in their own right, I didn't like it as much as Seed.
What I really enjoyed about Seed was the complex relationships between the characters and the multi layered romantic aspect. When combined with the deep political backstory, the soundtrack and insert songs, and the epic showdowns (Kira vs Athrun omg kekkekek), Gundam Seed really had an emotional impact on me. Gundam Wing and 00 just didn't affect me in the same way.
Although some critic Gundam Seed to be overly sappy and corny (Destiny especially lol), I really enjoyed the series and it really had a deep emotional effect on me. I would like some recommendations of series that could evoke the same emotions Gundam Seed did. The character developments and relationships were so well done and then plus the music and fight scenes, something about it was just so profound.
Although Gundam Seed is a Mecha, I'm open to all genres, just any series that can have that emotional effect on me.
Thanks ^^ The Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Just overlook its outdatedness. It's really damn good.
Some of the old gundam series are pretty good, search for Gundam 0083, Original gundam 0079 (if you can find it haha), Gundam 00 season 2(you already watched it), and most recently Unicorn Gundam. Take note the original producers of Gundam wanted to create a sci - fiction drama, hence the complex story and intrigue. So the original Gundam 0079 was really a classic of the genre.
For smart story and intrigue I liked "Code Geass : Lelouch of the Rebellion" Season 1 and 2 (you have to watch it from start of season 1 in sequence because its very story driven and you would get lost if you skipped episodes or seasons). "Death Note" (wicked smart story, mental duel between Kira and L, & its been made into a movie in Japan)
I also liked the Original "Macross: lovers again" movie, "Macross 2", "Macross plus" movies. (The newer series like "Macross 7" "Macross Frontier" put me to sleep. So you might wanna avoid them)
If you want a bit of comedy can ask me as well, I'm a huge fan of Lucky Star (comedy classic), and Minami-Ke season 1 (the other seasons had lousy artwork and the humor seems lame and recycled)
& props to Thread starter Konadora, I'm a fellow Singaporean who also loves japanese anime and play starcraft, talked to pangshai in the forums and in ICC. Your youtube link lead me to find the long lost Robotech series, love ya man! We gotta keep in touch.

Just watch the tv series first... (or rather, the long 110 ep OVA)

And Eva 2.22 shows up in DVD, some people here will be glad.
Upcoming season really looks like utter crap though, I should probably just start bleeding my money to places that I can't touch lest the boredom drives me to mass book buying sprees
|
Yeah, I'm glad.
Upcoming season is depressing, like they've run out of material. I dunno, why do they keep picking up B-rated LNs instead of the good ones for shows? :|
|
For every 50 B rated LNs we get one Bungaku Shoujo and one Rakkyo in theatrical release...I know I said that's a good trade in the eroge industry, but here it feels kind of painful because there is no lack of good source ><
My hopes at the moment are for Zaregoto+Ningen series to see anime release by some point.
|
Those aren't even shows though, they're theatrical releases.
Don't even get me started on the type of VNs being animated.
I'd like to see an Owari no Chronicle animation :x
|
I thought those had bigger budgets attached? I mean, with animes airing at obscure time slots as it is, these probably hold a wider audience.
I was actually curious about Owari no Chronicle after reading the reviews, guess I'll go dig that up instead of rummaging through my hd for Oretsuba.
|
They have bigger budgets but they take like a year for the DVD release (or more: see Eva) so it's not particularly timely. Now, if people were pumping out high-quality theatrical releases every month that'd be a different story.
Like, Bungaku Shoujo. Great, a theatrical release.
I'll get to see it.
Like, next year.
So about summer and fall...
:p
|
|
Yeah, like, next year TT
We'll get the 3 OVA for Bungaku Shoujo well before the movie itself I think, which...will suck for people who rely on sub/DVDs, as one of the OVAs might as well as be spoilers for the movie if they just follow the basic novel plot.
People doing pretty fast work and Eva2.22 has subs already...subs from the camrip, so it is like missing subs for like two new scenes form BD
Think people made the Kanade-SC jokes here too, but they weren't that interesting
Angelcraft might be amusing if he managed to block out the background sound from the anime.

School Days Chapter 2 English translation is finally going to come out soon. Can't wait.
Also Angel Beats OP and ED also out, same with Saraiya Goyou's OP huzzah! Now all I want is Yojouhan's OP and ED, although I could probably find its OP fairly easily
As for animes for Summer, Shiki is the only one that just screams "awesome" at me. I mean it is Noitamina for 22 episodes (I think the last one that long was Nodame?). Otherwise, the only other ones that catch my eye are Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin and Nurarihyon no Mago. Seikimatsu because I'm interested to see some more stuff by A-1 and the cast looks great. Nurarihyon because I want to see if DEEN will a) do a good job, or more likely b) fail miserably.
Oh and aside from the actual TV shows for next season, I've been looking over the OVA/Movie list for next season, and I have to say that I'm pretty excited for a lot of them. I found out that A-1 is doing a movie Za Uchuu Shou (The Space Show) for next season, which I am just dying to see because it sounds so relaxing and with a killer staff. First A-1 Pictures movie, hope it's a success :D As for Karigurashi no Arriety, I realized that it's not Miyazaki directing it, but Hiromasa Yonebayashi who was an animator on a lot of Ghibli films and also Monster and Lain (weird combo I know ). Miyazaki is still involved, but I'm interested to see how this novel adaptation will do in the hands of a new guy. Ai no Kusabi is a 13 Episode OVA that's going to redo the original Ai no Kusabi OVA from 1992, and they got the original director of the anime from back in 1992 as well as the author of the source novels. Unfortunately the animation is AIC I guess the bright side is they got the animation director from Gantz and Ergo Proxy... But it's AIC. Oh and the final other movie that I think will come out is .Hack//Link, though details are scarce on that. Supposed to be the last part of the .hack series, so I might watch it just because of that .
I don't think you can really call this season shit just yet... I remember that I was not really excited for Spring season at all, and it was ultimately the noitamina shows were just too good. Saraiya Goyou started out slow, but now it's picking up the pace and it's looking really cool.
Edit: I saw that awhile ago, but I didn't really find that funny. Maybe it's just me

Woot finally get to watch Eva 2.0
:D SkelA: Definitely watch the series first. Movies don't make sense if you don't the 110 episodes :D

I posted something like that a few pages back. It's funny the first time around, but gets old pretty quick.
Yeah, I don't know why people would watch Eva 2.22 with the camrip subs. I mean, if you haven't watched the camrip, I'm sure you can wait just a bit longer for those extra scenes to get translated. And for those who've seen the camrip, missing out on the extra scenes would be stupid.
+ Show Spoiler [Hayate, 272 chapters later] +Hoooly crap, where do I start... It's always kinda surprising how much plot there is in Hayate, considering that it's just comedy that has no significant impact on the story the majority of the time. So the stones are used to open the path to the palace, which contains the power of royalty. And Yukariko probably came in and took it. If that's the case, why is Mikado still trying to get into the palace? A-tan at least had a reason... I still don't know what the reasoning behind giving Aika one of the stones is. I guess that's material for the later chapters. Mikado is Santa (I always thought that was a dream. Talk about an effective Chekov's gun. Heck, this series is filled with good Chekov's guns. Like the King Midas thing. I didn't see that one coming at all)!? What a bastard. Heck, he's been behind practically everything that's happened so far, hasn't he? Yukariko and Hayate's older brother are interesting and I want to know more about them, but there's no more chapters. -_- Also, Klaus' picture from when he was young is friggin' amazing. Chiharu wasn't really on my radar when she was first introduced, but past that cold exterior, she's actually pretty cute. It's kinda hinted that she'll eventually play a large role somewhere down the line, so I'm happy about that. By my count, the current potential pairings are: Hayate:Nagi Hinagiku Hamster Maria A-tan + Show Spoiler +ALL MY HOPES AND DREAMS ;_; ![[image loading]](http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/703/v22176.jpg) Actaully, it's not as bad as I thought it'd be considering how the arc ended, but this image almost gave me a heart attack. Well, she's still got the ring, so I guess she's down but not out? Izumi + Show Spoiler +Too bad she has no chance compared to everyone else. I guess the whole long lost childhood friend thing will be a future plot point. ![[image loading]](http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/3861/izumi1.jpg) Fuueh indeed. After that last arc, I don't know who to cheer for anymore. Before, I would have said Hinagiku or Maria, but Nagi's raised her standing in my books a lot by breaking the stone. Wataru:Isumi (seems like it's never gonna work out though) Saki (although their relationship starts to border on creepy if you think about it for too long) Sakuya (My personal OTP because Sakuya is awesome) Aika That nun, whatever her name is Wataru's harem is almost as big as Hayate's. What a pimp. This series is great. They even managed to get the balance between comedy and drama to work out pretty good (I'm looking at you, Angel Beats...). Need more chapters.
TL's new pagination system is awesome.
Edit: Apparently those 272 chapters translate to about 1.5 days on MAL.

The Aika stuff was supposed to be developed later according to mangaka, but we haven't seen it in action really. Chiharu's role according to mangaka was mostly going to be just with Aika, and not even that, but it got out of hand. Not that I mind because every time Chiharu and Nagi meet I get Nadesico or light novel references.
The most mind boggling thing about Hayate...they just got past golden week. I'd think it'll have to proceed at least into Christmas if we are not just going to give up on Maria-san. Given the same pace, my gosh, that's like another 400 chapters
Definitely one of the mangas I enjoy though, need more Saku though. Saku be awesome. As for pairings I'd root for...Aa-tan, Hina or Maria-san probably. Nagi is still an useless and annoying character, Aa-tan arc or not.
|
Man, an Izumi pairing would make me so happy. I'm a big fan of Izumi, but it'll never happen.
Barring that, Ayumu/Hinagiku are currently about equal.
I agree with Wataru + Sakuya.
|
Izumi's voice was a great disappointment for me for the anime, too shrill But in general she is a highly amusing character.
The Hamster and Hina equal? Nonsense, the Hamster's only purpose is like to pad Hina's popularity. Think of it like how Ciel is really the pad to Arcueid and co's popularity
Sakuya doesn't really need a pairing, she just needs more appearances, but if setting her up with Wataru will get her more appearances, then that works for me. Tsukkomi is so weak otherwise with everyone else being practically boke, unless they bump Aa-tan and Aika into a more major role, that isn't going to get fixed.
|
272 chapters of Hayate? Man...I think I've just found my next time suck.
How much longer until the current season is over? We're at what...6 weeks in now?

Elfen Lied anyone? Used to be my favorite and encouraged me to start reading Manga.
Used to be my wallpaper.
