If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.gg

For currently airing anime, please see Anichart.net

The manga was pretty crap IMO, the anime was a bit better, but still, mm, how to say. Wasn't particularly innovative. Had a lot of random gore, though. The concept of a "freak" being ostracized by society and finding love from a protagonist...

Sorry for being harsh in critique :p

The most mind boggling thing about Hayate...they just got past golden week. I'd think it'll have to proceed at least into Christmas if we are not just going to give up on Maria-san. Given the same pace, my gosh, that's like another 400 chapters

A lot of manga and comics suffer from "time dilation". Girl Genius has been released at a rate of three pages per week over the last five years, and they've only progressed two months in the story. With Hayate, it doesn't help that they keep revisiting old events (like with the Greece visit) to flesh things out some more. Not that that's a bad thing, but it sure hinders the progression of time.

You can't hate Nagi! Sure she's a spoiled tsundere hikikomori, but if it weren't for her, probably half of the references they make would never see the light of day. Plus I really like her hat.

I wouldn't be opposed to an Izumi pairing, but yeah, it's never gonna happen.

Now that I think about it, all the superintendent stuff in the anime was filler? I never realized...

Random unrelated thought: Why are VNs so huge? I mean, it's just a bunch of text, images, and maybe a CD's worth of BGM, but this doesn't explain the 2GB file sizes. They also use a surprising amount of processor power.

Edit: For Elfen Lied, I liked the manga a bit more than the anime. But then things got really weird in the manga. And the ending was disappointing since it was just like "everything worked out and everyone lived happily ever after". =/ I did like the ambiguity over whether the diclonius were monsters or if people made them into monsters by mistreating them, but overall, it's not something I'd go out of my way to read/watch again.

Speaking of which, I feel like watching Gunbuster again.

As for the current anime season, everything's at episode 8-ish, so 4-5 weeks?

The images are really high quality for most VNs. Also, everyone talking all the time is bound to take up a lot of MB.

VNs are not that big, 2gb is pretty small when we consider the amount of voice. Actually, images are not particularly HQ, only till very recently have we started seeing greater widescreen support, and even then I don't think I've seen too many games that went above 1024x768 in terms of the original size. The biggest parts are really dummy data. As for processor power, the programs are poorly made usually, and little optimization is done. Even the stuff you see from Illusion and Teatime (eroge makers with focus on 3d stuff) are heavily reliant on CPU, with next to no usage of GPU. It just isn't an industry that you worry too much about optimization given the demographic that actually purchases the games.

Time dilation is fine if they don't set future events a good distance off, when they do you just wonder how the hell things will ever proceed up to that point.

Nagi annoys me just by being a tsundere, since we just have superior ones in the same series. Overlapping of characters is taboo!

Wasn't like 90% of season 1 just random filler-esque material, lol.

I feel that if you don't read the manga, Elfen Lied feels... incomplete. You never really get any true closure from it. On the other hand, I felt like the manga kind of degenerated into a thriller-type plot later on, but eh, whatever. I still enjoyed it.

Elfen Lied for me was a love-hate type thing.

When I first read it/watched it I loved it. I thought it was a relatively deep emotionally compelling story with a whole shit ton of blood interspaced between the meaningful parts.

I watched it again 2 weeks ago (Roughly 4-5 years later than the first time?) and I found neither to be really that good. The story was still there but the entire theme aggravated me like no other for some reason.

Looks like my favorite will still be SELain for now.

SElain definately left a really strong impression on me but it didn't last that long, i guess cause it was so short. Kind of like time of eve/eve no jikan, REALLY strong impression and feeling but it doesn't last long.
Nothing left as deep and painful impression as bokura ga ita when takeuchi is trying to take away nana D: That just rips jealousy into my heart, every time i read manga like that with that kind of theme it just burns me so hard

Lied was pretty good, definately one of my top, i agree a lot that the first time round you watch it means a lot more and isn't as great re-watching

Watch it again :p

So I started Jigoku Shoujo and it seems to be the exact same plot over and over again (admittedly, I'm only on episode three, but still). Does the plot get more varied as the series goes on?

And yeah, Elfen Lied isn't that great for a rewatch. I think it's because one of the reasons the show works is that it kinda shocks you so you don't notice a lot of the flaws. Once you know what is going to happen the show comes across as a lot more inane.

Edit-- if you liked Elfen Lied I'd definitely check out Gunslinger Girl. I watched it recently on a whim and liked it a lot more than I thought I would, good stuff.

So after starting Minami-Ke awhile back after receiving a recommendation from Testie, I ended up watching all three seasons. Okawari and Okaeri weren't as good as the original, but still fairly entertaining. I'm also watching Azumanga Daioh right now, but it's not quite as enjoyable for me, not exactly sure why. Osaka is awesome though. I'll probably finish it.

I'm mostly watching random relaxing series, as the 3 series I'm currently following don't exactly fill up a lot of time in the week. Any more recommendations for comedy slice of life stuff?

Okawari was meh, but Okaeri imo was actually fairly decent in the amount of laughs it produced.

Eh, I still like Elfen Lied even though I've rewatched it once. I just wouldn't want to rewatch it again is all .

If you don't find the story, characters, and presentation of Lain memorable, you need to watch it again.

Jigoku Shoujo. The episodes are like Pokemon until episode 8 or something, but they're pretty much self-contained with no overlap. Then a story picks up around there, but still using a Pokemon format (i.e. each episode follows the same format). Second and third season still follows the same format for each episode, but the story feels more involved there when compared to the first season iirc.

I'm still liking the Spring season. I honestly think that the noitamina shows saved this season, regardless of their ratings (at least Saraiya Goyou didn't get a good reception...).

Seitokai no Ichizon is a pretty decent comedy slice of life. Have you seen Haruhi? I don't remember if you've ever mentioned it before. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Yeah, I've watched Haruhi, both seasons. Endless Eight lol >.<

All in all, I've watched Haruhi, Hayate, Minami-Ke, Azumanga Daioh, K-ON!, and Lucky Star. As far as that genre goes. Oh and Toradora I guess.

Thinking about watching School Rumble maybe. I'll check out Seitokai.

Edit: On an unrelated note, I need to watch Gintama.

im curently watching full metal alchemist brotherhood and that realy amazing , one of the best drama/action i have watch since forever . i realy love the fact that most character can die in like 1 min no matter the background they got or all the storytelling the mangaka did on them .

this fact make battle fun to watch too , you dont know in advance who will win .

So I marathoned through Highschool of the Dead to see what it was like since the anime's coming out. It's pretty much your standard zombie fare - world gets infected, small group of survivors tries to stay alive, etc. There's quite a lot of gore and fanservice, though it's not quite as heavy handed as, say, Gantz. The story's nothing special, but overall, it's reasonably entertaining.

I also saw this:
