She is without a doubt the main character. Who is this Hare slut you are talking about? Hell even her name suggests she fucks like a rabbit. As Sentenal once said: "I dont know if youre trolling, or just incredibly--" I forgot the rest.. The bias-ness towards Ayase is unbelievable. How is that bandwagon guys, crowded enough for you yet? I think you're taking things too seriously. To begin with, it's not like any of us actually believe that Ayase is the main character. Although we would sure like it to be. I also know that Hare doesnt stand a real chance, especially since the new OP is so suggestive towards Inori. Were basically having a "Waifu War". A really bad one at that... Basically its Ayase vs the rest. For me, it's just I'm sick of seeing childhood friends get friend-zoned in most shows that I see. It's always the new flashy girl that for some reason gets the guy for really nothing else but because she's new and flashy. I think it also sucks because Hare (and characters like her) never has a chance. MC is completely oblivious even though she's the only girl he knows before the harem begins, and after the harem begins, MC has already chosen the first girl he meets that isn't Hare (and characters like her).

Seriously, Hare as a character can be summed up in 2 words. "Nice girl". There is hardly anything beneath the surface, barely any relevance to the plot, and competition that are all much more interesting who also have more relevant roles. She isn't even the hottest girl.
Only good childhood friends like Sumika actually win. Boring ones like Hare lose. Unless its Infinite Stratos, then boring girls like Hare win.

Well more like, what do you expect. If the show is actually a romcom then the complaint might make a slight amount of sense. But with GC being you know, not a romcom, characters like that won't ever get out of plot device territory.
In terms of how in general osananajimi gets shafted, that's another story and is simply a problem with archetypes. Or the Westermark effect at work.
EDIT - lol sent at least Hare is decent and not wrapped in an invincible armor of plot.

Well, I mean....Inori is "new and flashy" but is the epitome of incredibly boring. I mean, I agree that Ayase is arguably a more intriguing character than most characters in the cast, but at the same time, I don't think I can discount Hare just on that and the basis that she's a nice girl.
Overall, I'm not really rooting for Hare to get with Shu by the end of the show, but I do want to see more depth in her character I guess. It's not just that friend-zoned characters get friend-zoned, it's that they always get shafted in terms of attention and time spent. The time spent on Inori was pretty pointless, in my opinion, especially since she turned out to just be so blehhh.

I'm not really complaining about Hare not getting Shu's heart. I'm more or less talking generally about the archetype I guess. Hare is just another example of said archetype getting shafted by the story.

I have a total boner for chicks that can sing. So...

Unfortunately things just turn out that way, I can bitch all day about characters that I think are much better and have more potential and don't get book/air time because you know, not MC. Or I can bitch about stupid archetypes getting all the developer attention etc.
That osananajimi archetype though is just one of the most boring out there, I am almost glad that they just didn't bother putting Hare through that. No air time is better than getting character ruined

Hmm, now that you put it that way, I guess I can see your point. I actually can't think of that many childhood friends that I guess I would've necessarily approved of....so maybe it's just the friend-zoned thing in general.
Since friend-zoned characters don't necessarily have to be childhood friends, I guess I complain more about friend-zoned characters that I think are better.

Inori, despite my problems with her personality, is like a million times more interesting than Hare. There are still lots of mysteries around her character that have yet to be answered. Time spent on her is pointless? The time spent on Inori is like crucial the the entire story lol. Like + Show Spoiler +who she is, what her singing is, her murdering those 3 guys last episode, her relationship to Mana. And what about Hare? Shes nice. And thats about it. If a childhood friend wants to win, they need to be more than a just a childhood friend. They need to be either interesting, or relevant, or in Infinite Stratos.

I had an IS reference? O_O
I agree that Inori is intriguing, but only to the extent that she matters to the plot. Like, there's a lot of hidden elements to her, but at the moment she's all blah and nothing else more. I'm not discounting the fact that there are things that I'm curious about, but that's not thanks to the fact that she's interesting as a character but more of the fact that the plot makes her somewhat a mysterious facet.

Well yeah but, for the most part unless there is romance triangles or such involved in shows of that nature, there is no need to develop a friend zone character and even if it is how many variations have you probably seen until now? Id argue pretty much all of them if you watch enough of the genre. There isnt particularly anything appealing enough to waste time on it. Even the kind of situation where they friend zone a character and she eventually wins out of the blue is done to death.
As for Inori being a Rei clone, thats a bit unfair. I actually find her more interesting because of all the mystery but I cant say I like the character yet.
Also what is that Majikoi clip that Southlight linked from ? Thats infinitely more interesting that Kawakami taking bullets and instant regenerating for 5 episodes..
