Why not make them all 2 hours and take 2 years shooting them? Fuck it, who cares? This is the pro-wresting of prestige television!" Weren't you arguing 5 posts up that they didn't have enough material to fill all 13 episodes? And now they need 2-hour episodes. It just seems dumb. 6 2-hour episodes would've made 12 regular length episodes, and thus completed a "normal" season 7 and 8 of 10 1-hour episodes. All the success in the first seasons has led to some ridiculous decisions for the last few. And episode length is only a small part of it. The main problem is the writers thinking we are watching this for (1) big battles, (2) gratuitous shock moments and (3) boobs. While (1) and (2) make the big episodes, the staying power of the show has been the character development (just as in the books). The show often actually did the development better than the books, because with less characters and a different medium it could focus more on specific characters. They have thrown that out the window, and if something doesn't make narrative sense, they just hurl flaming boulders at it, Michael Bay style. Boobs... well, Missandei sure is pretty, but eunuch sex was still just awkward. I said I was concerned. I'm open to being surprised.
Edit: After further thought, I am also more open to longer episodes, as opposed to more seasons. Adding more meat in the middle of a season’s narrative is different than having extra season arcs.

someone likes this show because of big battles, violence and boobs indeed but people like me enjoys this show due to complexity and realism (aside from dragon and magic ofc) since every character is well motivated and the world of game of thrones is not black/white since they got no books to play with anymore - complexity is lost, the only things that remains is what we see in first two episodes, so in order to enjoy the show we should enjoy weird royal battles, boobs and sam doing all the weird/ugly stuff
one more thing, you can't satisfy everyone, so obviously production had to cut some corners

Bloys says that the network is currently determining the logistics of shooting the final episodes and what the production schedule will be.
“It’s a big season,” Bloys said, “So they’re trying to get a sense of how long they’re going to take to film this.”
The current season of “Game of Thrones” was pushed from a start date in April, when previous seasons of the show have started, to July in order to film scenes in winter. At this year’s SXSW, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss announced that they will write the final four episodes of the series, with Dave Hill writing the season premiere and Bryan Cogman — who wrote this past Sunday’s episode — penning episode 2.
Sound designer Paula Fairfield also revealed at the fan convention Con of Thrones earlier this month that the final episodes could potentially be feature-length, though that won’t be determined until production begins. The season 7 finale, airing August 27, will have a runtime of 82 minutes.
“I imagine they’ll be longer but … I’m not sure [how long],” Bloys said on Wednesday. “We haven’t had that discussion yet because I don’t know how long the episodes are going to be. Two hours per episode seems like it would be excessive, but it’s a great show, so who knows?” Source If the scripts are already written then there is a possibility of leaks.
With a series this big and with so many fans, there are bound to be some cracks in the ship. I really do hope that they wait until 2019 to show the final season, that gives ample time for everyone to "Snape kills Dumbledore" eachother.

This production of this show is to large to avoid leaks. But they are also pretty easy to avoid if you follow some folks that are into the show. I normally got a heads up any times a bunch of leaks got out there for this season.

15 min scene in next episode about finding enough fodder for dothraki horses or ill riot about the impracticality of feeding an army instead of the lack of build up to the next action scene. either way i'm gonna be as vocally critical as a red viper.

In fairness logistical issues were a key component in the Stannis in the north storyline. If they're going to handwave away logistics they should do so universally. If they're going to make it a major plot point for one character it's a little silly for them to ignore it everywhere else.

Fast travel only works south of the riverlands, its pretty straight forward I'd say. Movement penalty in the north.

I demand a spinoff series about the people who keep King's road working in winter. Nothing more exciting than infrastructure!
|
the roads are rough. I want a reality TV styled ice (king's) road truckers spinoff

I need to know where all the horse poop is going from the horse man army. This is a critical issue that must be addressed before I can enjoy the series. Also, I need a deep dive into dragon stone and why it is a castle that seems to have no town or village attached. Why is no in that castle?

To take the discussion a little bit on track, what is this talk about spinoffs, is it confirmed? Do you guys have any hopes for those? I don't think it makes much sense, the world isn't particularly unusual or interesting - hell the whole point of the series is that no matter what the setting is, people are always people with their inherent flaws. Since the idea of the actual setting being not that important is an integral part of ASOIAF as a whole, what is the point of taking just the setting (besides making heaps of money)?

I think they were going for the prequel stuff if memory serves. Things about Roberts Rebellion, and the like or the adventures of Egg and someone?
A little more of a star wars approach to it.
|
From what I've heard it would be neither Dunk/Egg nor Roberts rebellion
something about nights watch with Jon Snow I belive?

I mean if the budget allows it they could do things about valyria or the targaryen succession wars. The world has magic and if you go back far enough it was a bit more common as well, so there surely is potential. It's really hard to say though, i hope it works out.

his point is that everything you find interesting is tied to these characters. a spinoff generally means you lose those characters, instead having a story in the same universe with new characters.
and i agree, the universe is not interesting. it's definitely the characters.
