Actually can't believe how predictable this season has been. Can't think of a single event that wasn't the most likely event. The only events that were difficult to predict were the ones that were so stupid so they seemed like the writers must have intended something better.
I was pretty bored this episode and I loved every other single major battle episode and watched them multiple times.
For me, GOT is just an average drama/action-series now with some type of overarching plot that is still somewhat interesting to follow.
I'll still remember back to S4 and just having no idea what was about to happen and being super excited after every episode. But I guess the good thing is that I won't be super sad when GOT goes on a 10 month hiatus.
EDIT: Oh the hodor episode was unexpected, but that was about it.
Guess it was an okay episode. Cliche and played safe with a few dumb moments, but the show's been leaning towards that lately. Don't believe it is supposed to be an Emmy winning episode when this is the only one they submitted.
The action was great. Obviously you could sense the "twist" of the battle from a mile away though. Still pretty good episode overall, even though i have to say that i didn't really care too much when they tried to convey emotions (Rickon) Definitely one of the better episodes this season (still don't see why they would choose this episode for "best writing" though)
Yea not sure why they wouldn't use the Hodor one for best writing.
Everything in this episode was fairly predictable, but for a big battle episode I'm completely okay with that. I enjoyed, it kept me entertained for the entire episode and thoroughly enjoyed watching Jon bash Ramsay's face in. Solid episode imo.
Looking forward to the season finale, I expect some actual twists and turns in it though.
How is it that they managed to get surrounded in the first place? Really poor reactions on their part. "Oh gee look at all those funny people and their shields and spears. I wonder what they're going to do!" And if you do find yourself surrounded, wouldn't it be a better idea to push straight through. I don't know, maybe go behind the giant and move forward to break their formation? Or perhaps it's just best to let them mush you into a big clump and get picked off one by one.
I mean it was a good episode regardless. Too much Hollywood but alright overall.

Yep that stuff was really good. Now think back to all the battles we didn't see because the budget wasn't there back then :D In this regard the show definitely got better with time^^
So I guess in next season we should see Dany return to Westeros allying with Dorne and the little part of the Iron Island.
Not sure what will happen in the north or what Littlefinger's "brilliant" plan is. It's not like the north even has any army left so there is no value in an alliance. Probably best to expect that there isn't any good reasons for this behavior. Perhaps he is just doing it for the love of Sansa or something cheesy.

There were a ton of tactical errors in this battle, like charging into a rain of arrows, standing still while they get surrounded and the fact no one on the Boltons noticed a giant cavalry army was marching towards them all along. Like seriously, no scouts or patrols? Also a bit strange Sansa wouldn't bother to tell Jon an army was coming to aid them. Oh well, I guess this is one of those shows you watch more for the visuals and characters than the plotholes.
The Starks have Winterfell which will now claim loyalty over all of the region again. Doubt the Vale would want to get bogged down in that political theater and I'm sure with the Wall allowing Wildlings to come through they have heard about what is happening beyond the Wall.

So Littlefinger will help fight the white walkers next season?
I like the implications of Jon failing at the battle and how Sansa & Littlefinger will treat him as a result, though it does mean more brooding John I think.
The action was pretty good too I think
But yeah man, there's a lot of shaky plot. Like it's one thing for the north to fall in line behind the Boltons and be done with things, but to then watch their leader/warden murder an innocent young boy and just look the other way is totally ridiculous even if they're afraid. Especially then watching your leader pepper your own troops with arrows.

Armies sunk up on other armies in history. Generals hid large numbers of mounted troops in the trees before the battles. Both armies have scouts and if one ends up killing the others scouts, you don't get a warning. Sansa couldn't be sure the army was coming and didn't want Jon to count on it. Also she fears Little Finger.
But have no doubt, everyone will be an expert on sword and board warfare in the next week or so. As we were all experts on stab wounds last week.

If anyone is going to be pragmatic about dealing with the White Walkers, its Little Finger. His entire character is about seeing the way the wind is blowing.

I hope something interesting happens to his story arch once again and he has a great plan but Sansa figures it out in a sneaky way and outsmarts. Or perhaps she can do that in the last season.
I also hoped for a while that Varys was working against Dany behind the scenes and wasn't a pure good person and has a different motive. Or perhaps he is a good person and realized that Dany wasn't a good ruler - that would be pretty cool. But pretty sure that's not the case and he is just going to secure an alliance with Dorne.
Maybe we see him there next episode just to make the viewers aware that Dorne stil exists and have a purpose before the season ends.
Anyway, really hoping that we return to a primary drama show next season w/ a bit of fantasy and less "cliffhangers" for the sake of cliffhangers.
