I didn't find it sad at all, a little bit funny, actually. I don't know how you would find that funny. I thought it was really sad. You have this big happy cheerful dude who seems to truly care for Bran in whatever way he can, he's loyal and he's always been good. And at the end of the journey you find that in some way, it was written in his destiny that he'd get mindfucked (by Bran?) to become this retard, only to be discarded by Bran to hold a door until his death. It was forced in the plot but to me it felt like Bran betrayed the guy, not only at the moment of his death, but in some way through his whole life the guy was robbed of his agency, and his purpose was to die holding a door. Yeah, I know how sad it's supposed to be and how fucked up everything is. I stopped to think about this scene for quite a while after the show ended, but in the end, it felt weirdly presented. Maybe because I never really cared about Hodor and thought Bran's scenes were all too boring.

I thought this episode was absolutely top-notch. Like top 3 all time. Sansa is acting kind of dumb though, I expect her to die rather soon.
Would someone try to explain the Bran stuff? So CotF made the white walkers... who was the first white walker? Do we know anything about the guy in the tree yet? What exactly did Bran do to Hodor, was the last scene with hodor having a seizure a past vision, or when can he be physically in visions like he was with the white walker leader? So many questions!

However, the whole Bran, 3 eyed Raven poorly timed flashback didnt make any sense. Why were they in some useless memory when they know the Night King is coming? Surely seeing as Bran isn't ready, and they have very little time, the 3 eye'd Raven would've taken him somewhere more important than Winterfell's courtyard. The only reason for that choice of vision that I can see was so that Bran could create Hodor, which IS incredibly shit writing. They could've just left 10 minutes earlier and skipped the pointless vision.
The whole tunnel leading to a backdoor under the tree was also incredibly hamfisted writing. It makes me wonder if GRR really intended this to be the particular door Hodor holds. That said, it was incredibly sad and moving, it's just a shame that they couldn't deliver such a big reveal in a way that was less forced.
They were there because that's when Bran gets hodor to hold the door.
also, I thought this episode was excellent. really enjoyed it.

my take on it is that they made the white walkers because they were mad at people, and they made them to kill people - but it got out of control.
i think the guy in the tree is just like a master worg 9spelling?) guy. so he was just teaching bran how to use his powers.
I believe bran used his worg powers on hodor through the vision (into the past), and that is what messed up hodor's head when he was a kid. It's something that really happened. Like, I think that because bran was in the past he couldn't take over hodor in the present. So he took him over in the past to control what he was doing in the future, but that was too much for hodor's mind to take.

iirc
probably notherer leader or something, since they are the first humans that came. in Westeros.
Bran warged into Hodor ahead of time, even before he was born, to fulfill a role (to hold the door) that will happen in the future. Something like that

Exactly the Raven was even telling Bran to "listen to your friends" and all he could hear was her screaming for Bran to make Hodor help. But he was stuck in the past with the Raven so the only thing he could do was try to control the Hodor in the past/vision, which somehow allowed him to take control of the Hodor in the present, thus giving Bran the knowledge of how far his abilities can go and allowing him to create Hodor in the first place.
Basically I took it as this: Everyone has a single "mind", but several bodies in various points in time (past, present, future). As long as you can access the "mind" you can choose to control the body you need. But that comes at a great cost, usually in the form of making your subject unable to function like a normal being again. Or Bran has the ability to basically time travel while inside someone's mind and control their actions whenever he wants as long as they are still alive.
This episode just helps me believe a certain theory about the Mad King.

The Hodor reveal means is Bran a time traveler? Kinda hyped for the Iron Island story now, at first I thought the old guy drowned and murdered Euron lol
also > not using Sean Bean Ned was the kid, not the dad Ned was neither.
Ned was the kid that was leaving...he was going to fostered at the vale with jon arryn

In terms of writing and acting quality it's so inconsistent. The theatre scene in Braavos was outstanding. Then the Dany Jora scene was ridiculous, his lines and acting were amazing, and then her sending him off to his I command you to cure cancer on your own, while having cancer kind of ruined an otherwise great scene.
Kingsmoot was kind of underwhelming, although I think the new bad guy Euron has potential. I am the storm brother.

Now I know why twitch chat was spamming Hold the door today in random streams

what a gentleman. just waiting for memes to pop up with him as a fedora tipping "m'lady" redditor.
some parts were cheesy though.
some dicks more cheesy than others. dany and jorah was like some sort of high school love story confessional. that grenade suicide was some kind of action movie trope.
but i think overall, this was pretty enjoyable because of the reveals. Who was the first white walker? is he anyone of note?

Pretty sure Hodor's seizure actually happened in the past what with everyone reacting to him in the vision. I don't think it was a time paradox but rather a premonition of his ultimate destiny in life. Which was to protect Bran by holding the door.

Oh yeah, and I expect a tidal wave of Hodor memes. As if the internet didn't already love him. Haven't even been to reddit yet...

1. Why are all Red Priestesses so hot and seductive? 2. Arya watching that play fucking broke my heart, I literally had a complete flashback to season 1 episode 9. 3. Dany why??? Just let the poor man go ffs. 4. Damn it I wanted more of the tower flashback. 5. The Greyjoy kingsmoot was utter shit, glad Theon and his sister are teaming up now though. 6. No more stupidass dick jokes please, or do them right like the banter between Varys and Littlefinger. I get that the Ironborn are all about fighting but if Euron is suppose to standout, then he must be more intelligent than saying "I have a big peepee vote for me." 7. So many more things I want to know about the CotF and the WW. 8. HOLD THE DOOR + Show Spoiler +, now my favorite GoT phrase. 9. Why are all Red Priestesses so hot?

I think Ayra will not make it into faceless club, but will hire them to take out Stark enemies. She isnt anywhere near ready as she still showed a strong attachment to her father's death (understandably).
Im not a zombie fan so all that bored me.
Hodor was such a selfless character, what a gem.
Greyjoy plot was cool , nice twist, and bro and sister on the same side again , very cool.
Episodes advance the story too fast and not much is fleshed out but still enjoying this season.

I loved the episode, but I hate that time travelling is now involved. It always leads to paradoxes and other nonsense.
I get the general idea. Bloodraven knows the icy dude is coming, and SOMEHOW he also knows that Bran will only survive if Hodor holds the door. (How he knows this is beyond me)
So he quickly takes Bran to another vision with Willys/Hodor in it. This is so Bran can create Hodor. But Hodor is already Hodor?? He could've just warged into Hodor in the present right? Why did he have to go in the past to do it?
Hypothetically speaking, if Bloodraven does not take Bran back and he doesn't warg into Wylis, what would happen?
Arghhhh it's just so confusinggggg. I really hope we don't get too much present-Bran messing with the past.
But such a great episode.

Inb4 the Raven is Bran, therefore that's how he knows. Dude never moved from his tree, it's just one big ass wheelchair, to the past...
