From the looks of the preview, the new kid whose name I already forgot is going to kill her, which will likely set up a chain of events that makes people suspicious of Dexter and/or will lead to him killing said kid.

im not sure about the books, cuz ive never seen or read them, but is there people who have read the books ? so does the story go way beyond this point in the books or its not even up to this point in them?

I haven't read the books, so take this with a grain of salt, but as far as i know only the first season of dexter is loosely based on one of the books and that's it.

I read the first three books or so. Only the first season loosely follows the book, and after that they deviate very heavily. I would say that this is one of the cases where the tv series is significantly better than the books. If you are a major dexter fan you may want to look into them, but don't have too high expectations (the first book is decent, after that it quickly goes downhill). I'm not going to spoil anything, but the books go into much more explicit details as to why (in the books) Dexter has "these urges", and I don't think that explanation makes for good reading (and judging from reviews neither does most other readers).

To get some idea of how events and actions are explained in later books read the following spoiler from Wikipedia (Dexter Morgan - Dexter in the Dark) which describes part of Dexter's character development in the third book (obviously book spoiler, I don't think it is TV show spoiler at least not unless the TV show takes a drastic turn). + Show Spoiler + In Dexter in the Dark, the third novel of the series, it is revealed through third person narrative of an entity referred to as "IT" that the Dark Passenger is an independent agent inhabiting Dexter, rather than a deviant psychological construction. Later, Dexter realizes the Dark Passenger is related to Moloch, a Middle Eastern deity worshiped in Biblical times. The Dark Passenger is one of Moloch's many offspring; Moloch had many children (formed through human sacrifice), and learned to share its knowledge with them. Eventually, there were too many, and Moloch killed the majority; however, some of them escaped into the world. In the novel, Dexter learns of the Dark Passenger's true nature when it briefly "leaves" him, frightening him into researching possible reasons for its existence.

Basically the TV show's Dexter is just a confused man who grew up in some weird circumstances, and that's what's driven him to kill. The TV show, unlike the books, never introduces anything supernatural or mystical. Dexter is just a man in a man's world.
The books, on the other hand, go in a completely different direction that, in my opinion, actually diminishes a lot of the psychological-intrigue behind Dexter. Dexter is an interesting character because he raises some interesting questions about why he is who he is. The books answer this interesting question in the most uninteresting way.

Okay, that sounds incredibly lame. I don't think I'm going to bother reading the books

It's like that black super cop that got killed by the Russian guy boyfriend last season. He appeared out of nowhere, and got killed without any story line including him lol.

This season is a total letdown so far, probably the worst season.
Even Yvonne cant salvage this season, we need Doakes to surprise mothafucka Dexter in the finale.

Truer words. Such a shame for the final season, but then again, final seasons tend to be final seasons because they are so shit.

The story is shit already. May as well go big >.>

i think almost all dexter seasons were really slow for like 3/4 of the episodes before things went crazy. so i am still hyped to see the conclusion to all this.

To be fair, there never was definitive proof of his dying.

what are you talking about? yes, of course there was. he was in a cabin that got blown to pieces by a giant explosion. you cannot survive that. plus the left overs have been identified via a dna analysis that it was doakes. get your facts straight

I'm not sure what I think of this season so far. I try to see things as a whole. Season 7 started out really excellent, but ended with a bit of a thud (who didn't see the ending coming). Season 8 has started off pretty dull, but a strong ending could totally change my feelings about it. So I'll reserve judgment. So far, though... It seems like the Harrison/Jamie thing has literally become Rita, which feels like such a rehash. And I feel like they took an easy way out with literally no one being suspicious about Laguerta's murder for the first 6 episodes.
But I have faith that Yvonne can save this season. She definitely made season 7 good in my opinion.

If you're new to this thread, you never argue with Doakes fanatics. They are simply superior.
