This seems to be the general consensus. At this point, I just have to know how it ends.

It's a mix of a bunch of ideas they have. Let's give Masuka a daughter because why not. And Debra's just a drag. Jamie's even worse and the whole dynamic with her being jealous of Debra just fires blanks because I can't imagine anybody gives a shit anymore. Quinn possibly getting a promotion and punching a dude... they have these side stories which don't seem to be part of the main plot whatsoever, they're just there because we have to be reminded that side characters still exist...
The most important thing is, Vogel was apparently witholding the information about the guy's scar from Dexter which is the most ridiculous thing ever. Why would Dexter just tell her "hey one of your patient just happens to have the exact same scar as the victims, why didn't you tell me" and she's like "oh you know lol whateverz!" and it's all fucking dandy. I don't know if Vogel is perhaps the main villain and that was her manipulating Dexter, that'd entirely possible, but there's no way Dexter would be fine with that blatant "oversight" from her.
I don't know if I'm in a bad mood and that's me nitpicking or being pessimistic but the only thing I liked from the last few episodes is some Jamie ass and sideboob, pardon my crudeness.
I've enjoyed the first 7 seasons to variable degrees, never even came close to saying I should abandon the show. Right now it's just bad. I won't stop watching because we're almost at the end, but it has reached new heights in terms of shitty writing.
QOTD: But what if Vogel is Ayn Rand? This voices my thoughts pretty well. I've been willing to give this season it's fair shot to build up the final story lines, but it is all really tedious. Just let it end. At least Hannah was an interesting character last season. Which is also pissing me off: they bother to have a last-episode cliff hanger with her escaping from jail, and this whole season nobody has given two shits about that. Shouldn't the whole department be in a manhunt for the escaped serial killer? Even if she is no longer interested in Dex, which seems out of character enough in and of itself. Wouldn't surprise me if Hannah (YVONNE <3!) doesn't even come back I mean they already seem to have dropped Lumen out of the picture. Quinn's suspicions of Dexter have completely dissipated (which was a total letdown after season 5). Brother Sam (Mos Def) just awkwardly left the plot as a quickly as he came. Isaac gave us one of the coolest episodes in several seasons then bit the dust in disappointing fashion. The freaky intern that mysteriously had an interest in Dexter at the end of season 6? Dies a comedic death, had next to no impact on the story. They just don't seem to care much anymore.
+ Show Spoiler + Hannah is confirmed for 4 episodes of season 8. Enjoy

ugh
Could Quinn's storyline be more cliche?
Dr. Cant operate a door
boring conclusion to the killer which didn't really fit his character. He seemed to dumb to be the surgeon (maybe he isnt?)
I was pretty bored throughout this episode.

meh knew that killer was going to die early. It was kind of like in an anime where you can tell which characters are going to matter just by how well they're animated >.>
They could have made him a little less laughable though. I mean he didn't tie up the doctor, left her unattended and didn't confiscate the phone. Fail.
The creepy rich kid seems like the big baddie this season.

I'm not sure about Hayes being the surgeon. I mean, had the surgeon not ALREADY sent a gift to each Dexter and Vogel (marked His and Hers), BEFORE he knew that Vogel had called upon Dexter for help, or even Dexter invaded Hayes' home?
Or did I miss so much to not put 2 and 2 together?

Honestly, none of these guys seem like final villain material. Surgeon guy defeated in five episodes and was bested by an old lady, old lady herself is crazy but doesn't really do anything, rich kid is just the new Miguel Prado that Dexter will try to teach but ultimately fail with.
I miss the intern that made the video game. That guy had serious potential. Which just made me realize, the nanny has a serious thing for law enforcement guys.

We have 7 episodes left in the entire series and they didn't even bother revealing the main plot. I don't really see anything the last 5 episodes have accomplished having any capability to play a larger role in the season. The only thing that would be a saving grace is if he wasn't really the surgeon and it still continues.

I'm still holding out for mecha Doakes

I don't understand how the guy was the surgeon. I mean, he takes at least a week to kill his victims and then buries them with a flower nearby if I recall correctly. The surgeon removes a part of the brain and leaves the body with the head open. Not to mention he practically forced a guy to kill for him. I don't think Hayes (or whatever his name is) had the capability to do so.

I'm gonna call it here: The rich kid and Vogel together will be the big bad in the end.

I really don't expect him to be the brain surgeon. It seemed to me like he just got freaked when someone checked up on him and it made it look like it was him. He was never openly confronted about sending those jars to her or stalking her. If it was intended to be him, the writers did a really bad job at making it believable.
tldr: I expect another brain jar to show up next episode.

I am with you on this one. No way he is the brain guy. Nothing adds up to Hayes being the surgeon. I am surprised people actually think it was him based on what was presented in the show. No wonder so many people think Zimmerman is guilty...

The creepy rich kid seems like the big baddie this season.
It was his phone, dexter said he didn't recognize the number. Also, he only captured women, none of which seemed very strong. He probably didn't struggle at all with keeping them in check. Vogel messed with his head as she dug into traumatic memories, which accounts for the few slipups imo

This dead baddie was kind of weak, but like most story lines they have random baddies in between before the real one is introduced. Looks like the rich kid will be interesting plot twist probably him killing dex or something.

There is one thing that does add up: when he sees Dexter snooping in his house, he says (paraphrasing) "Vogel has found herself a hero". How would he know that Vogel sent Dexter? If he isn't the surgeon, then they likely haven't had contact in some 20 years.

My theory about what's going to happen. Might be far fetched but it sounds plausible.
+ Show Spoiler +Harry always felt angry for the criminals slipping through the cracks of justice system. After he found out about Dexter and realized his psychopatic tendencies, he went to Vogel and she suggested it would be better to channel these urges in a different way. Harry thought Dexter would be to perfect weapon for his idea of criminals getting what they deserve. He later despised what he did and felt guilty, leading him to commit suicide.
Vogel assisted in this process, but she feels Dexter isn't quite exactly the psycho in her mind (let's be honest, she isn't exactly quite right in the head as well, has her own ideas about what's right or wrong) when she and Harry started all this. So she will try to train the Hamilton boy in the Code, to replace Dexter by killing him, taking his place.
I know it's quite a long shot, but maybe the real ending could be close to it.

He wanted to attack Dex with a taser but backed off when he heard her voice.

All of Vogel's patients are serial killers it seems she used her "methods" on a lot of people. My money is on vogel being the real final season "big baddie".
