And that's fine, because Jedi and Lightsabers are cool, and the Deathstar Trench run is one of the most memorable moments in cinema. But none of it is makes sense (or is supposed to make sense) except within its own nonsensical world.

Btw, don't say I now nothing about sword fighting when I am banned. That's a cheat shot. Especially when you follow it up with incorrect and bold claims. I did kendo and do fencing. To beat plate armor, you can't use a rapier. Even lighter armor will stop a rapier. And not because a rapier isn't heavy, because it is just as heavy as a long sword. If you fight in plate armor with a long sword, you would actually be two-handing and grappling, trying to throw the opponent onto the ground or trying to grapple him and get a position where you can attack in between the plate armor. In rapier fighting, the thrust dominates because it is safer as you don't have to commit as much and you don't get out of position, too far away to parry the next attack, when you miss. And a piercing attack is more deadly. The first attack is likely not to kill anyway.

The alternative is that they were avoiding the turrets, but that still doesn't explain why they kept starting their attack run miles away. Only way to really make that work as a full explanation is if you say most of the fighters were intended as a distraction, so they only broke off in threes in the direction of the exhaust port while the rest concentrated elsewhere in the hopes of keeping their plans hidden from the imperials.

And a piercing attack is more deadly. The first attack is likely not to kill anyway. Fenced epee seriously in college and have historical martial arts experience. The longsword is the historical weapon developed to penetrate armor. It is a long-ish two-handed heavy weapon designed for thrusting, unlike the medium length and lighter one-handed weapons (sometimes called "broadsword" or knightly sword some other term) that dominated previously. The rapier a one-handed weapon is comparable to a little lighter than a broadsword, and as long as a shorter longsword. It achieves this tradeoff by being significantly thinner than the earlier weapons, and thereby losing the ability to cut effectively. The blade is sometimes only sharp at the tip, which makes the weapon more durable. Military sabers eventually took the evolution of weapons in a different direction, retaining the ability to cut by gaining a curved blade. A curved blade is somewhat worse for thrusting, but by the time sabers came to popularity in Europe, the use of armor had declined significantly. More relevant to our current discussion, a lightsaber is a two-handed weapon with a blade in between broadsword and longsword length, at a length comparable to some actual sabers or the sport fencing equivalent. The blade is weightless but exerts significant gyroscopic force (unless this has been retconned?) Lightsabers also seem to "catch" on one another preventing sliding, resulting in a combat form that disengages and reengages regularly or else gets caught in pushing matches. What this comes out to is a form where the bind attack gains massive amounts of power. Unlike, say, epee, it is relatively easy to get to close range because you can catch the enemy blade and advance. They have to disengage and try another angle. Furthermore, since the weapon is easily caught, strength becomes way more important. As a result, the grip is two handed, which significantly limits range and long-range epee style thrusting games.

Against this narrative that Rey is OP already and has no flaws- her first encounter with Ren she's on the defensive and get's captured. (Plus she freaks out at the lightsaber and decides to abandon it all- she changes her mind when the stormies attack, but then subsequently is defeated by Kylo.) The entire fight between her and Kylo, she's on the defensive and every chance she get's she tries to run away. She get's in one lucky blow similar to Finn which further wounds Kylo. It's only when she's trapped and has no other options that she must rely on the Force and really she must rely upon it entirely- in that moment her latent power comes forth. After which, Snokes says it's time for Kylo to complete his training- perhaps put on hold so that Kylo could seek out the location of Luke. Still have a problem with R2 and the showing the 5 planets in the one solar system as distinct and separate explosions on Maza's planet rather than one explosion, but the jokes work just as well as the first time. This time I noticed they didn't cheat with the Poe's coat; they bothered showing him take off the jacket prior to flying. Regarding the Resistance not bothering to escape- my brother noticed that they made mention of this time they won't have help from the Republic fleet- which made us wonder if the Resistance actually doesn't have the ability to airlift everyone off planet? They relied on Republic help to shuttle people on to planet and have a small collection of transports and X-wings, so if they Starkiller aims at them, then they actually have no way of escaping. If that's true, then it would've been nice to have one shot where they evacuate every one they can on 3-4 transports, but Leia decides to stay behind to direct the attack (because of course she would).

Insurance company claims they can no longer afford to cover that ‘cursed ship’. Empire’s officer of media stated it was a simple dispute over premiums.”

They are also changing directors, why's that? e: apparently they agreed to have 3 different directors from the start, weird.

No idea what to make of pushing it back to December 2017 and not May 2017. Im not sure if it is just a straight marketing tool. Episode 7 releases in December and does sensationally well, could that be alone an excuse to make Episode 8 release during the same window? If it is a re working of the script, well oh dear oh dear ![]()

Apparently Pirates of the Caribbean 5 has taken SW8's new spot, so it could easily have nothing to do with Star Wars at all - Disney obviously don't want to compete with themselves, and I guess they think this maximises profits overall.

It could just be “Eh, we can push this bad, its fine. More time with the script can’t hurt.” Edit: Ok, apparently the new rewrite is to focus on the Rey, Finn and Poe more, provide more depth, background and banter. I have no problem with them doubling down on the best parts of TFA. Nothing shocking, scripts go through rewrites all the time.

Pirates 5, Disney's most popular movie series ever, has a May 26th 2017 release date and history shows that it sticks in theatres for a long time. Would be silly for Disney to have two huge movies out at the same time. All about the money and by spacing the releases, they get the maximum amount of your money.

edit: I pretty much agree with all that's in here (well, I reserve judgment on the title itself):
