Storywise? Yeah not so much. This TMNT reboot looks to be worse then GI Joe reboot.

Do people really think that the director is the one who writes the script, casts the actors, ect.? The director sets up the shots and has a say in all parts of a movie but I really don't think you can blame an entire terrible movie on the director unless the specific reasons you state for the movie's terribleness were under the control of the director. I realize that this is an unpopular opinion (as made obvious by the poll in the op/the rest of the thread) just figured I'd add it anyway. The director almost always gets all the credit for a movie doing well, so if a movie is terrible they should take the brunt of the hatred and blame in my opinion.

You can't really go by the RT ratings because they rarely ever match the actual viewer ratings. For example, Bad Boys II got like 20% from critics but 80% from the public. If you're going to use Rotten Tomatoes as a basis for how good a movie is you need to completely disregard the critic reviews because they're worthless. That being said, his recent movies have been terrible and the script for this movie shows he has no idea what he's doing with it.

And yet, every Michael Bay movie seems to have certain elements to the writing, acting, and production that are specific and unique to Bay. You can tell a Bay-movie script without having seen the film. Directors tend to have the highest-level of control over a film outside of the studio producing it. Directors are involved in the writer and casting. They are in overall creative control of the film. Until and unless the studio decides to interfere in the production, the director is in charge. And studios don't tend to interfere in the production of movies by successful directors with a proven history of making money. This is why James Cameron got carte blanc to do whatever he wanted with Avatar, and nobody at the studio is regretting that decision. Or if they are, they soothe their regrets in gold-plated bathtubs. The cash cow goes moo. This level of control only increases when the director is also the producer. Because now, not only is the director involved in the casting, writing, and so forth, they have direct authority over it. They now effectively represent the studio in on-set matters. Everything good that that movie does is because it has Will Smith and Martin Lawrence riffing on each other. Also, the "actual viewer ratings" for Transformers 2 were 68%, a movie that even you say was "terrible". So it seems rather more likely that the "actual viewer ratings" are complete shit, and the critical ratings are a more effective measure for the quality of a film. That doesn't mean they don't get it wrong

+ Show Spoiler + ![]() But while all three of those films have already released first look images and even trailers, one film that we remain all but completely in the dark about is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Directed by Wrath of the Titans' Jonathan Liebesman and produced by Michael Bay's company, Platinum Dunes, the upcoming summer blockbuster has kept the internet patiently waiting for the first official look at the new adolescent, evolved, martial arts-fighting reptiles. It turns out that the wait has been just a bit too long, as now we are getting our first impressions of the new TMNT design from a cheap Halloween costume. The fan site TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles.com managed to get their hands on the image you see at the top of this article, which they say is a 2014 Michelangelo costume that is based on the look of one of the four lead characters in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.
