And the spirit weapon is so weak that the avatar can stop a blast, spirit vines can explode and the people just outside the bomb can survive. Also, spirit blasts outwardly expanding seemed to respect traffic rules or whatever. You could just step aside and it would neatly pass you by. And if you have a long range spirit weapon why would you even go off alone without support in the middle of a city? I think it's definitely the weakest part of the finale.
Also, were the Varrick bits cringeworthy? I fast forwarded through all of them because I didn't dare to listen to them.
Asami's father having some role to fulfill and heroically sacrificing himself was expected, but to my shame I didn't personally see it coming. :/
It hit Bataar Jr. It also wounded some noname airbenders, and temporarily knocked out Tenzin and Jinora. It's just really immobile so they hardcountered it. The explosion also completely destroyed half the city, did you not see the crater? All the people were just so far out that the remainig enegy couldnt destroy more buildings so they could hide behind them i guess. And it went off because the weapon was connected to all the vines in RC, so it looks like it overloaded and couldnt be controlled anymore, basically like varricks experiment at the beginning. I dont know, that part made sense for me to be honest. And it was fairly obvious that in some form or another Korra was going to take the spirit energy blast, after that field trip with Zaheer, that was all about her literally being able to control spirit energy.

Yeah seriously this show overall was light on the fire bending. I LIKE MUH FIRE
No shit, the death ray didn't hit anyone on the kids show. They did destroy the fort and kill everyone on it. And killed a bunch of people on those ships too.

Also the giant colossus squashed Asami's father into pulp

They just dont show people dying because it's a kid's show, like you said. Still, it was a really good ending and i enjoyed watching it alot. Would say this was the best finale from Korra, if you take the last two episodes as a combined finale. Quite alot of "obvious" things like Asami's dad dying, Wu resigning as King to make the Kingdom a Republic, etc. But they did it without rushing things imo. Im surprised how obvious they made Korrasami tho, they'd been pointing at it all season but ending like this was way more obvious than i expected.
im sad its all done now tho, they improved alot from S1 to here, would like to see more
Good finale but not a fan of the ending. That korra/asami hint at the end just seemed to be fan service imo. Throughout all of season 4 they see each other what 2-3 times before the last episodes?
My brother who never visits forums or anything said this as his response to the last minute "wtf that came out of nowhere." He then proceeded to say "Guess the spirit ray turned her into a lesbian.".
I wouldn't have minded it so much if it literally wasn't out of the blue like that, the only "tease" they had of it was korra blushing for a brief moment when she saw Asami for the first time in 3 years.
Have you missed all of season 3? It was hinted all through the season, starting from episode 1 when they were in the car, cultivating in the conversation at the end when she did Korras hair. Then in season 4 she was the only one that Korra wrote too, then when they met and then in the clip episode. It was huge on reddit the whole time, i dont know how someone could miss it. Of course its never explicitly stated, because that wouldnt fly on a kids show, but the hints were really obvious imho.
Holy shit the Korrasami is real, I actually did not see that coming, I thought the few hints they dropped were fanservice/red herrings. Although it definitely would have been a bit of a stretch for either Asami or Korra to get back with Mako, and I guess Varrick/Zhu Li alone was not enough romance for a series finale. Neat how it wasn't 100% though (no kiss, no "I love you"). I think a lot of the younger viewers will miss it, and if you're a fan of a different pairing, you can imagine they're just really close friends.
Fight with Kuvira was pretty good, giant mecha walker is still silly and weirdly animated but they did the best they could with it so it was alright. The bending fight was great too, Kuvira with the orbiting spheres of molten metal was awesome (reminded me of Kael'thas from WCIII actually lol)
Really the only part I didn't particularly like was all the amateur psychoanalysis at the end ("Oh! You're a rampaging dictator because you're an orphan and were never loved as a child!" -_- really?)
Also I miss Zaheer. I know there would be no reason for it but I kinda wanted to see him again.

Overall great show going to miss it .
I have to admit, I'm a little puzzled.
There were a LOT of hints toward Korrasami, beginning from Book 3 as Warri said. Plus, Book 3 & 4 were written at the same time, so when you take that into account, I think it's pretty fair to assume that a Korrasami ending was their intent all along.
It started out as a closer than usual friendship in Book 3, with them getting closer, and from the start of Book 4 it was pretty clear that they had something special. Again, as Warri said, Asami was the only one Korra would speak to. Plus, over the season, there's more and more hints, which culminates with the incredibly obvious blushing from Korra following a compliment by Asami.
I mean, I thought they handled it very well. It's oddly subtle and obvious, and while they couldn't outright "come out" with it (see what I did there?) due to LoK being a kid's show, they really did push it as far as they could. The ending is up to interpretation because they didn't have them kissing or saying they love each other, but I dare you to go ahead and rewatch LoK entirely (or at least from Book 3 onward) and tell me the ending does not necessarily mean Korra and Asami are together.
Again, everyone can interpret it as they wish. To me, it's very, very obvious that Korrasami is real. That being said, I don't only like it because it depicts a same-sex relationship on a western kid's show, but also because it was well-handled. It wasn't shoved in our faces in a cringeworthy fashion, and overall was touching and credible. I liked it.

I was suprised when my friend said he thought they went as just friends.
The korrasami thing was done way better imo then kaatang. that one just felt so synthetic while this one did kinda feel real.
Did anyone else notice that they handcuffed Kuvira in the end? That seems both so cheesy and pointless (unless made of platinum of course, but would they really have those?).

Also, the K vs K battle was pretty good. Korra would have won flat out won if there wasn't so much metal around. Plus called the spirit bending.
That's what I really liked about all the "villains" in this show. They weren't just crazy evil assholes. Shit, I sympathized a LOT with Zaheer and Kuvira.

I agree, plotwise it was really disappointing, the whole giant mech was such a weak plotdevice and came out of nowhere. Theres no explanation how it would make any sense as to how it could have been build, if Bataar was busy with the weapon all the time and where all that platinum came from. Also it just doesnt fit the avatar theme. I would have much preferred just a bigger tank with the gun strapped on it and then a huge army vs army fight breaking out for control of it as it marches into RC. But i guess the funding just wasnt there for large scale fights so they had to do with this, also they seem to have a hard on for giant monsters... The resolution of all of it in the end was really really awesome though.
I honestly think the whole giant mech thing was the best thing they could have come up with, considering their time and budget constraints. Having to plan out and animate two massive armies battling each other does not seem like it would have been possible, considering the lack of support the creators and animators got for this season. They did the best they could with what they had, and honestly? There were some really really cool moments with the mech, so I'm happy.

it wasn't bad at all, im impressed at how much emotional drama they could make with it

did they handcuff ozai? I don't think they did
No I don't think so either. But he didn't have any bending so wasn't much of a threat.
