HBO really ought to double the budget for Game of Thrones and add something like 5 episodes to each season, I think there would be drastically less to complain about in this thread if that were to occur. Does anyone have any idea of about how large the Game of Thrones budget is btw? I've thought about this quite often. It's not just a budget issue. They are simply not able to produce more than 10 episodes in a year without dropping the quality drastically. Do you know how long it took them to film seasons 1 and 2?

+It was Tyrion who came up with the idea to wed Joffrey to Margaery.
It's not about having enough time to show everything(and they do, the scene with Tyrion and Bronn was ok last episode but they could have add something important to it other than the books) that Tyrion did in the books, It's about how they show Tyrions character at the TV show. Tyrion at the TV shows is a weak imp who only have a big mouth, nothing else, while at the books Tyrion "inherited" his fathers wisdom and cunning. And that's the only reason he manged to survive all his life. take the Eyrie incident for example and tell me if it's the same Tyrion now that there in this season?

I really hope they get the Catelyn and Robb stories right. First off, it seems like Catelyn might release Jaime right away, which would be out of character because in the books she was driven to release Jaime only after she heard that Bran and Rickon were killed. And then with Robb he only fell in love with the girl after he was injured and taken care of her, so because of the circumstance he broke his vow.
In short, Robb and Catelyn were driven to do stupid things because of extreme circumstances, and I have a feeling that may not happen with the show
Argh, looks like my fear came to be true. REALLY hate the change of Cat randomly letting Jaime go(as opposed to doing it because she thinks her sons died) and Robb deciding to put a guard on her.
I really don't mind small changes or changing the plot slightly for convenience. But when you change a big part of the plot and fundamentally change the characters, it really irks me.
Meh, the show hasn't been that great the past few episodes. Hopefully they redeem themselves with the next two.

Around 5 months for each season, but there may have been some dead time in between shooting at each location (The Ireland and Croatia stuff was in mid-late summer, but Iceland was in November). But they also spend a lot of time writing, casting new actors, making sets and costumes, as well as all the post production (editing/compositing, cgi, music).

The chain was a big enough part of his character that time should have been made for it - a quick scene with the smiths four episodes back, and they wouldn't need to show it any more until the blackwater. The training of the sellswords could have been slipped in with any of his other conversations with Bronn, but I don't think that part is so important. The wildfire should have been slipped in when he was speaking with the alchemist - "How dangerous is the substance, have so many thousand empty jars sent up to the walls, I want the men trained, You'll no longer be making wildfire for my sister, you will be making it for me." instead of just doing that last line.
I had forgotten about the antler men until just now - but I'm not sure if it's the sort of thing you would really "get" in a TV show. Still could have been brought up in one of the court scenes though, or perhaps just an individual antler man being delt with on one of the trips through the city. It's certainly doable to include some of the finer points of the character with just a few seconds here, few seconds there... but the writers would have to WANT to do that with him, and it looks like they're taking the character in another direction.
as far as that Rains of Castamere clip.... Chills and chills and chills. That's all,

They didn't have the budget to do the Battle of the Blackwater scene the way everyone wanted. Im guessing we aren't going to see ships burning at all. It'll probably be some people getting the wild fire thrown at them from the top of the walls with a bit of fighting going on. So I'm thinking these are the reasons they didn't have Tyrion build the chain. They probably could have had him do a little more though for preparation, but in the case of viewers that haven't read the book, it doesn't really matter. The outcome will be the same.
Im excited for the rest of the episode. GRRM wrote this one and Im interested to see if its noticeable. Im hoping for some more Jamie/Brienne and some Jon Snow. Im wondering if they are going to do the House of the Undying tonight or in the last episode. Going to be interesting to see how they wrap up the season.

Think it's possible they took the episode they thought people would be most pissed off about being different from the book (due to budget concerns or whatever) and then deliberately handed it off to GRRM to write, while imposing those same limitations on him. Makes it somewhat harder to bitch about it being different if he wrote it. There again, maybe I'm a cynic.

It's penultimate in the season, so it better be awesome. Also, GRRM wrote it, so I'm sure it'll be fine. Also, + Show Spoiler +

No offence to you but its funny to read this post after just having watched the latest episode. I'm uncertain whether you'll be happy or upset with how wrong your post is, though I'm looking forward to finding out

I'm kind of disappointed that all we got to see Tyrion do was chop off some guys leg.
Fuck the books, apparently.

Fuck the books, apparently. I kinda like the fact they made tyrion not fight much. Honestly he kicks way to much butt in the book for my taste. I'm dissapointed he has a nose still however.

Of all the scenes in that episode every time they showed his face after being cut I cringed, just the fact that it was like a slice through just the skin was ughhh I was expecting it to like peel off 0.0

This one was fucking awesome, second only to episode 3.
Are they actually going to show the attack on the fist of the first men or is that going to be the first episode of season 3?
|
Depressing to think there are only 10 episodes in a season. I do miss the character development that the books lend, but the simplicity at time (of the show) [if you can call it simple] is relieving! It means I can relax and enjoy it without over analyzing it.

This episode was well done. The sortie outside the mudgate felt a bit weak, but overall a good episode. It definitely showed that they saved a huge portion of the budget to this episode.
Thank god GRRM wrote this episode. After so many huge deviations from the book this season it was nice to stay on target.
edit: I didn't mind Tyrion's nose. Figured they would just disfigure him with scars. Having to CGI his nose off in every scene he's in for the remaining books is costly and unnecessary. I thought they'd have the slash be across his face though, something big (to make him "uglier").
Oh and I loved that they made Stannis a total badass in that fight.
