And I would imagine that the virus in living humans is dormant and thus not infectious. Getting active viruses into your bloodstream from a walker bite are probably what causes the fatal fever.
This, really. I think the key difference is that breathing it in through the air is not the same as being introduced to it through liquid of some kind coming in contact with your inside. Again, it's dormant after you breathed it in, but the saliva or something of that nature stimulates it and brings it out, causing the fever as mentioned above.
Since we're floating around the topic of Tyrese, that was a total bitch way to make him go out. Guy fucking solos 5+ walkers without any weapons in the beginning of season 4, and then gets done in by some child zombie? Was lame as fuck. And of course this happens as his character was starting to not be soft and weak again.
Bleh, too many black guys+alpha dogs in the group I suppose.

Though I'm not sure how much of a choice that really is, since everyone in the group is very close together, and would probably go anywhere Rick would go.
While that ultimatum may happen, I don't see Rick leaving over just staging a coupe and telling the rest of the community they can fall inline or be exiled (together with the bad apples who get no choice in the matter and will be exiled/shot anyway).
This exactly. He even said it himself that if things don't work out, they will just take the place. These people obviously have no idea how to survive in this new world and it's amazing they haven't been wiped out alrdy.
Yeah. It's similar in the comics, but I can't help by roll my eyes at how the writers are making Rick's group and the Alexandrians so black and white. They make the Alexandrians so naive, and incompetent. I understand that they don't have any experience near Rick and his group, but some of the things they've done ever since the debut of Alexandria and its people should be common sense. Complaints aside, I am excited to see how this season ends since the season finale is 90 minutes, and Norman Reedus' small hint got me more interested.

Don't overanalyze. I don't think there's a consistent logical explanation that makes pseudo-scientific sense. So, for all intents and purposes, just pretend a zombie's bite injects a deadly venom like a snake bite and be done with it.

Because whatever virus turns people in zombies becomes stronger once a body dies and then when it is transmited to someone it gives you a fever and you die soon after.
I thought it was rather that their saliva contains a shit ton of infectants. Even a nasty bite from a living human is known to cause infections, what more from a decomposing being.

Stop trying to make sense of it. Sometimes it's the one, sometimes it's the other. There is no underlying scientific(ish) explanation. All you need to know is: Zombies have magic death bites that irrevocably kill you unless you chop the limb off within <insert variable amount of time, dependent on plot requirements>.
EDIT: oh look. The post ^^ there already said that too

It really doesn't seem mysterious or inconsistent to me but I guess to each their own.
1. Everyone has the virus in them and comes back no matter how they die unless damage is done to the brain 2. Zombie bite does something to bring about a severe reaction to it
It could be saliva, but then again it could also be the extremely disease-ridden bacteria that are inside of the zombies' bodies that cause something. I'm mainly speculating as to what causes people to develop fevers and die shortly after, but I think it's fair to say that the two are linked in some way.
Also, key difference between Herschel and Tyrese getting bit and subsequently amputated is that Herschel was immediately treated, whereas Tyrese was left to bleed out for several minutes before getting any attention. In which case Tyrese probably died from mere blood loss, rather than some severe pseudo-science complication.
Does anyone else think that it would be so much better if they would have switched the roles of Tyreese and the Pastor? Have the pastor get randomly bit by a zombie and let him have this great tragic moment about life and death and whatnot before he dies. That would've worked quite nicely, too. And then, have Tyreese come into Alexandria, finally have him feel truly at home and at ease, happy to make it into a proper, safe community.. only to overhear how Rick and the others are quite willing to fuck it all up again. And thus have him betray his own group. Given Tyreese's character, it would be completely plausible and believable that he would not want to be part of that, and we'd actually have a sympathetic, known character switching sides, making things far more interesting.

Maybe this was their intention, but Tyrese's actor had to leave the show asap? Hard to say, but I do agree with you that that would have made both storylines more interesting.

Yeah, I don't want to keep bringing this up, but if saliva is infectious then blood sure as hell is. And Abraham gets slashed with a knife that passes through the throat of a zombie. There is no consistency. At this level of idiocy I'm happy to accept Scorch's magic snake bite theory.
Agreed Rick's acting seems kinda weird with Jesse. Like he's having a breakdown while also trying to be reasonable and also trying to make it seem like he really cares about her personally. Way too much going on but I think that's what they were going for, that he's pretty much going insane again and needs to be brought down to earth again.
I agree with Rick! Deanna is a pansy for not dealing with Pete properly and letting him beat jesse. You exile him and he could find another group and come back for revenge. Rick should be running this place over Deanna cause her and her people are weak and don't know what they're doing. They abandon their people at the first sign of walker trouble and they want to try to preach to rick about morality? He didn't even start the fight with pete. Pete swung first!!
Why did michone hit rick? He was speaking mad truth! Also, sasha is getting damn annoying with her crazy suicidal ways. They've kind of ruined her character now. I wouldn't be sad to see her die next now.

I think Rick's group are destroying everything.
The place has stood for 2 years just fine. Sure, a few dead here and there, but nothing like this chaos.
So you want to setup KORRRRRRL and the new girl. Fine no problems, after all we expected the awkward teenage stuff as soon as the girl was introduced. But;
1. The girl "knows" KORRRL is stalking her because he's "loud"? WTF he'd been with Daryl "the redneck hunter" for more a year, if anything he should be like a ninja.
2. I get it, you want to show that sweet sweet hand holding action. Truely we get it. They couldn't show that in side the walls? I dunno something like "I lost my mom, oh really you too? Lets kiss" So instead they setup the ridiculous tree hollow scene. W T F. Did they forget that the whole zombies can sense people through smell thing they setup in the first season? So what was the plan, hope they don't smell us but if they do then we'd both be stuck inside a tree with no ability to move and no way out?? This from two people who has spent alot of time on the outside and know how to deal with zombies.....

Sometimes loves makes you enjoy feeling vulnerable.
But yeah, I can see why people might not like that scene. Man, what is happening to Rick, really disliked how his character acted. I'm liking Daryl and his new friend more and more though.

They've gotten lucky for two years and really just have plot armour since realistically another group of people should have tried to take it over by now. It seems like the crazy group branding walkers with the W are around the corner and will be a future threat to the community. That should have happened before 2 years. These people aren't set up or prepared to fend off any kind of aggressive attack which means they've never been attacked in 2 years since they would lose to the first attack.
Rick's group needs to teach them how to survive, but no they want to boot Rick out now. Deanna threw away her right to wave the morality card when she turned a blind eye to the wife beater.

If she's out there running, it'd be hard for Carl to keep up without making a lot of noise
Michonne, fuck yeah! Really love that they're going with the overly-paranoid-Rick angle here, and that his group isn't just mindlessly taking it. Stories can be so much more interesting when there are no clear good and bad guys. Who knew?
