EG took two bad fights and LGD was good enough to hold the lead, and EG's draft wasn't setup to go late game. It was actually a good game, honestly. Hinged on just a few things.

So, I'm looking forward to EG vs LGD, though I have a feeling it might be a bit of a stomp by EG.

LGD is insanely legit right now, mostly on the back of both Sylar and MMY being amazing with heroes that are good in the patch. MMY in particular has always been a monster of an aggressive support player, and I love watching his ES and Lion in action. Hoping to see more of his goodness, although I fully expect that PPD will first ban ES every game without hesitation.

Was the DD one really legit? I was thinking "W33 is totally fucked if that rune is a Haste or DD", which is a 2/10 chance. He shouldn't have gambled that, especially when he was already ahead and had no reason to force anything.

Contesting the rune is also questionable because there is no chance w33 actually gets the rune if s4 comes there, he has to expect s4 flamebreaking him. DD or not he will not get the rune and will take a lot of damage. Of course going for a rune in the hopes of getting it before the other guy shows up is a pretty common misplay, but in this case it ended being a pretty costly one given the start w33 had and how that sequence brought s4 back into the game.

Yup.

I figured "Well he must have back up that I've not noticed, a Chen creep or something", but that was not the case, there was no help near enough. He just went for a rune he wasn't going to get (unless s4 decided to gift it to him for no reason?) that could easily (and did!) result in a death.

Only explanation I can think of is if there were creeps pushing on s4's tower or something and W33 thought he wouldn't miss them? IDK, I try hard to find reasons for why pro players do what they do rather than just flame when things go wrong 'cause obviously they're way better than forum posters like me, but it was definitely one of those moments where, before it went wrong, I was thinking "This seems like a stupid move."

w33 is fucked because in this patch, unlike the previous one, the mid isn't the #1 anymore. it's not necessarily even the #2, like in alliance's case the mid is #3 in farm prio and just operates as a playmaker. w33ha just isn't very good at that.

i doubt guys like rtz can play mid anymore either (in competitive), and just shift to the safe lane permanently.

I dont think thats true for most teams. Fata always gets a lot of farm priority, it still works out fine in the end.

Yeah, I always see W33 as most similar in playstyle to Fata, and Fata is doing just fine this patch.

LGD is Top-15 in the World, but I don't think they're getting past EG. They got past "Day 1 EG" by grabbing two team fights, with a draft that scaled much better into the late-game. LGD was quite behind until that Roshan Pit fight. (And that's the actual meta this Tournament: DO NOT ROSH (unless you have at least 2 Heroes dead on the other side).

LGD looked better in the Qualifiers than they have in the recent China tournaments, but the only team they've beaten that's assuredly above them in ranking is that EG match. They got wrecked in those Chinese tournaments by the top teams. But they have a chance to show us they've improved.

As for the draft, it's not Earth Spirit but Dark Seer that'll get the first ban, if EG has first pick. Dark Seer, Earth Spirit, Bounty Hunter, Morphling and Terrorblade are the likely ban targets from ppd. Disruptor if they grab one of those in the first phase of picks. Ppd has also established a large chunk of heroes that need to be target banned by rOtk already in the tournament, so he goes in with a drafting advantage.

I'm curious how much ppd does think about the way he lays out his draft ideas for the group stages. Because he's done this at least at TI and Frankfurt, where he establishes a very large hero pool, making target bans very difficult. So far this tournament in 7 games, the heroes played count stands at: Arteezy 4, Fear 4, ppd 5, Sumail 7, Universe 6. The only hero that didn't "work" was Sumail's Sand King, though I think that was just a bad pick.

I don't think Sand King was a bad pick, he still managed to put in a decent amount of work. Game could have been a lot different if SK didn't get first blooded and use his mango, also I think he wanted SK vs brood lane. Sumail has said that it's one of the heros he likes playing so there must be some legitimacy to it.

Obviously I'm biased, but I think the best player of the tourney so far has been Sumail. The diversity he's shown with his hero pool, and playing in all 3 lanes is pretty incredible.

Hoping for some good games tomorrow!!
