Oh and nice if they finally fixed it so you can juke somebody.
hold down alt, your hero will have a shining beam of light above him/her.

Invoker can slow for 140%. How does this work? It was my understanding that 100% slow would remove all movement...

Haste in dota 1 gives 4000% move speed iirc, you cannot slow haste away.
Where did 140% slow come from? Ice wall + ghost walk? There's a minimum move speed of 100 anyway.

Example: Suppose you have 300 base MS, Yasha (10% MS boost), Janggo (5% MS boost), and Phase Boots (+60 MS, 16% MS boost active). Without Phases active, you have 380 * (1 + 0.15) = 437 MS. With Phases active, you just add in the % MS boost, giving you 380 * (1 + 0.31) = 498 MS. If you received the Rod of Atos slow (50% slow) your movespeed without Phases on would be 380 * (1 + (0.15 - 50) = 247. It is not 218.5 MS--you sum up all the % MS modifiers BEFORE applying them to your base MS. Hence this means that with 140% slow, the additional slow % comes into play when the target has % MS boosts on them.
Additionally, there is both a minimum and maximum movespeed attainable by speed boosts/slows (the cap is 522, the floor is 100).

It gives only 100%, it is perfectly possible to slow a hasted person below 522.

I think the 4000% MS boost applies to other "unslowable" effects like Lycanthrope's ultimate. Not sure though.

Ah, so it simply compensates for any additional ms items/abilities that they have. Thanks!

I never really bothered with knowing what percentages the ice wall had, I just remember that it drops them to a crawl :p
Still, good to know that you still slow stuff to a crawl, even when it's breaker with a yasha, a drum, and a kobold aura. Ice wall is probably the most rage inducing skill in the game, though it doesn't feel imposing enough in dota 2.

iirc, in dota2, weavers geminate attack only overrides orbs when proging. is that right? if so, wouldnt desolator be the optimal dps item on weaver (radiance aside, as it serves other purposes)? as the debuff placed by a attack while geminate was on cooldown lasts for a few seconds so a later geminate attack would get the effect, even if the desolator orb would be inactive for the double attack. it also has synergy with the -armor from the swarm.
|
If so, yes. In dota1 I believe it was an orb effect but not a buff placer. Give it a test, if it plays nice then it's probably a good shout, though radiance would still be a better overall item IMO.
|
ok tested. geminate attack progs correctly, you even get the deso orb on the first of the double attack. this basically means geminate attack and deso work 100% fine together in dota2 as the debuff is certainly still on the target for the second attack.

Handy, thanks mate, good knowledge.

Desolator is almost always the best straight autoattack damage item on any hero that doesn't need true strike. It's not bought often because it's a pure damage item. Items like manta, bfly, radiance, AC, etc. have other effects that increase survivability or damage in team fights. Going to try deso after RoB/Van next time I play weaver, thanks for the suggestion :>

Is there anyway to know which server the game you're spectating is in?

I'd also recommend checking out MKB... as it has the ability to ALWAYS hit. works great lategame vs annoying carries with evasion/bfly etc

So I just deicided that I want to get DotA 2. Is there anyway for someone to get their foot in the door at this point?
I was very tempted to start another thread, but I'm scared i'll get locked since the question is pretty simple.
Edited for grammer.

The most likely way to get into the beta at this point is signing up for the beta survey and hoping. Low chance.
Even lower chance are the occasional give-aways. Playdota probably has the largest one. Yet you must have an account at their site from prior to the 12/17/2011 to be eligible. Then there are various other giveaways on that sub forum as well, check it out at http://www.playdota.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=160 .
As for starting to play the game, that is simple, you will drop in rating as you start out. Then after a while you improve, it goes faster if you have people that already play it teaching you. Yet just playing will make you better up to a high level when playing doesn't really help as much as practice (practice is always better, yet often boring).

Thanks man. I suppose that I'll just cross my fingers and hope for a beta key! I just created a steam account exclusively for DotA2!
