Can you explain how to do it? 1 level in counter helix, and then battle hunger? I'd presume Pudge has no problem getting a lasthit, so it wouldn't be that effective, would it?

Sorry if this has already been answered, but can someone give me some tips on how to lane vs Dark Seer as a melee?
I've had trouble with him in the past as well, as a ranged I just kill his creep, but it's not as easy as a melee, even with a support(they don't always listen, last game my support just blamed me all game cause he was in a group of four, and I was randomly qued with them.. yeah qq lol).. use all my tangos/salves and then just sit on low life and it's really annoying. I feel like there must be some secret I'm missing :0.

Pudge has low armor, so he has difficulty laning against hard hitting opponents like SF or Invoker, but Axe's spin is the best physical damage of all these, you can do well over 150+ hp damage if he only dares to come close. Do this a few times, he won't dare to last hit, then just kill him with hunger.

This may have been answered a while ago, it's hard to tell, this thread is huge:
What technique do most people use to last hit? I mean mechanically. I am currently using Stop spam to wind up my animation, then right clicking the mob I want to last hit when it's health is in the right range. Is there a better way to mechanically handle last hitting?
Also, is there a place where I can easily see the stats of creeps at various levels? I'd actually like to memorize that table at some point, so I can become a little more mathematical about my last hitting, and not just doing it based on 'feeling'.

http://www.playdota.com/mechanics/unitstats for unit statistics
There's no optimal way of last hitting , it's all personal preference, but the you are using is easier to deny when playing against it. Walking around and coming in for a single blow is the best way most of the time

DS vs. melee and Axe vs. melee are very strong. They have mixed effectiveness against ranged heroes though depending on the hero.
Panda also has a lot of very good vs. melee matchups (just rush Bottle, Bottle-crow, and Clap+smack them in the face every time they try to lasthit).

It depends on "how" you're stop spamming. If you start it and do it for like 5-6 seconds its bad. You can easily check your opponents items & mana or you could check how the other lanes are doing in that time.

I have another one: Why is the bottle considered such a strong item for mids? Is it mostly because of the ability to bottle runes?

Quick considerable regen that can be refilled whenever you control a rune. Strong mids can push the lane just before every 2 minute mark forcing the enemy mid to choose between contesting the rune and losing the farm (that dies to their tower), or getting the farm but losing the rune.

What do you mean "can be refilled whenever you control a rune"? Does bottling a rune refill the bottle?

Oh no, not for that long. I'll usually hit stop maybe three or four times, then right click. It really is just a fine grained mechanism to get me winding up and then swinging. I never stand there for 5 or 6 seconds winding up.

So you once again have 3x bottle charges worth of hp/mana to push the lane and harass the enemy over the next 2 minutes, at which point you go get the next rune, rinse and repeat.
Early game Dota has a large focus on rune control because it can make or break games.

On September 25 2012 07:14 Brainling wrote: What do you mean "can be refilled whenever you control a rune"? Does bottling a rune refill the bottle? Yes it does! Bottle for mid heroes is twice as useful compared to sidelaners, since middle has easy access to both rune spots. On sidelanes, you may get unlucky and no rune spawns near you for a very long time. Bottle+crow and roaming is the next option then.

Ah ha, that was the secret sauce I was missing. I didn't know the rune filled the bottle. Thanks guys!

One more stupid bottle question: Can you send it back on the courier to be refilled? I know if I walk it back to the fountain, it refills, but what if the courier walks it back?
(I really should just try this stuff, but I hate to experiment with noob stuff like this when I'm trying to not be a detriment to my team)

Ah, is that what the bottle + crow thing means? Gotcha.
Thanks again guys. It's nice to have a thread like this to ask questions that certainly aren't thread worthy.

2 questions.
1.how many random matchups actually stay 5v5 passed 10 mins or so in the game? i just got my key 3 days ago, but ive had more games end up not counting than counting in the end.
2. why is the dota2 in game community so awful? they avoid new players like the plague, do not answer any questions, or help with any builds or character selection. i am willing to learn. i played bots for 20-30 games b4 even attempting against others. just tell me who to pick and what lane to run and ill listen. but no one actually in game fucking cares to help me. nothing against this forum, i know i can always come here but i should be able to ask in game too.
