Why does ignore/mute function not work anymore? When i click on the button it gives me the popup for steam profile and so on.

Yeah its so annoying, must be a bug, hope they fix it. Also, this new rearrangeable Hero picking UI is awesome, I arranged the heros in a way that i very useful to me, however, beware! when a neww hero is added (Rubick) you won't find him I thought he would be at his default place, but I couldn't find him there, and then randomly clicing the UI I managed to select him on a random spot, but still couldn't see his portrait.. Anyone knows what to do? Apart from rearranging the whole thing from default...

New heroes = new questions :D

Is wisp played as a complete ward bitch since it doesn't seem to have too high mana costs and can't get that tanky because of his buff? Or is he played mid (dat animation) to abuse the mek/arcane-will-heal-tethered-allies-twice mechanic? Semi-farming support (like SK)? Suicide lane (is last hitting with spirits achievable)? He seems like he would be pretty ridiculous in pro games - how often is he picked/banned, and how early? Normal skill build tether>spirits>over?

Luna is a bit like gyro right? Can be played as a kinda sub-optimal carry, but is best played as a ganker? beam>blessing>glaives? Is she any good in pro games? Mid or supported?

Luna is often compared to SF, however she even less hp, cant escape, and her laning is terrible due to low range and no manapool to support casting Lucent Beam more than 3 times in the first 8 minutes. She is not picked in dota 1 at all. Most likely some teams pick her once or twice in upcoming months but the hero itself is pretty poor.

It's a hot chick riding a tiger. Same reason anyone plays Mirana. Only in her case she doesn't have a hot ginger to outclass her.

gyro is not best played as a pure ganker, he has to rely on other heroes to create the opportunities. he's actually an incredible mid-late carry because of flak cannon. luna is basically a hard carry that happens to have a lot of nuking power, and thrives in the jungle after lifesteal (though i dont know how glaives work in dota2)

gyro and luna are both carries
but luna carries harder and can build items that aren't rapier and can still own
gyro's more fun tho cus he's in a helicopter and i really like hitting things with flak cannon

i would say wisp is a 3rd or 4th position support since he does well with some items like urn and mek (double heal from link and global teleport) but he can be played as a hard support too
he hasn't seen much play in comp games
ursa+wisp is gonna own up some pubs tho

She is not compared to SF. Luna is a much more lategame carry, at the same level of say Antimage & Drow Ranger. Glaives does incredible damage late game.

SF is much more of a midgame carry who won't be able to stand up to the carries mentioned above lategame (unless having far superior farm). Ganking an SF is also easier than ganking a Luna, because Eclipse can turn things around quick if support is around.

There was a period where she was picked up a bit (not that often though) about 1.5-2 years ago in EU scene.

The skill build you suggested is about right. Sometimes blessing is taken at level 1 for better last hitting. As mentioned by someone else above, she is a harder carry than gyrocopter. Manta illusions will also have the glaive ability and together with your real hero they do a lot of damage in a teamfight.

Luna would be a hard carry role and most likely supported in the safe lane. She would be very weak early and get crushed if you put her in a solo lane against most other heroes.

I don't know if perhaps I've forgotten about this period '1.5-2 years ago', but Luna was top-pick/ban material back about 3-4 years ago when the 4 gank/supports + super-hard-carry strat was dominant.

yea luna needs safe lane with support or solo mid against an ez mid

get 2 or 3 points into glaives midgame so u can jungle faster
stats can be taken instead of glaives early on (u only need 2~3 bounces), but lategame it's nice to have glaives maxed

Well all I can say about the '1.5-2 year' period was that Luna was picked at least twice.

Here are a few games (no idea of the quality of the games though but known players in them):

NE vs DTS
NE with Calc/Link & co. DTS with LoH/NS/Dread. LoH on Luna.

TR vs shift
AngeL (former DD/Quantic/Wolves) on Luna

Deity vs MUFC
ChuaN on Luna

MYM vs Na'Vi
Misery- on Luna, this is Na'Vi before LoH & Puppey

Their was a game with Maelk on Luna verses Loda's Morphling. Maybe it Was MyM vs Fnatic or even older MyM verse SK.

can someone tell me the basic 'meta' like what hero type goes in which lane and 1-2 heroes that would be good for a noob to pick up and play for each lane.

Uh well it is generally 1 hero on the hard lane (Radiant Top, Dire Bot), 1 in middle, and 3 on safe lane (Radiant Bot, Dire Top) or 2 in safe lane and 1 in jungle.

If we would rank heroes from main carry to main support as #1 - #5, in general it is:
#1 - Safe lane
#2 - Middle
#3 - Hard lane
#4 - Safe lane/Jungle
#5 - Safe lane

Of course, this is not definite. If there is a Lycan jungle then he would be #1 position normally, or if you put Syllabear on the Hard lane he may #2 position.


In pubs though, 1 in middle and 2 on each side lane is common and usually does OK, with #4 or #5 moving to the hard lane to help out.

Sometimes there are 2 heroes in middle as well (the main carry + main support, #1 & #5).



Some suggested heroes for beginners are below. The lane suggestions are for the 3-1-1 setup as opposed to 2-2-1 setup. For a 2-2-1 setup often the lane choice does not matter in low to middle level games, though put vulnerable heroes in the safe lane for sure (most agility heroes).

Strength
Skeleton King (safe lane)
Sven (safe lane, hard lane with another hero)
Chaos Knight (safe lane, mid lane with another hero)
Tidehunter (middle/safe lane)
Slardar (middle/safe lane) - Crush over Sprint over Bash early

Intelligence
Lina (middle/safe lane) - may have trouble hitting stun sometimes
Ogre Magi (middle/safe lane)
Windrunner (any lane) - don't take focus fire until after getting everything else
Lich (any lane)
Lion (middle/safe lane)
Zeus (middle/safe lane)

Agility
Clinkz (any lane)
Weaver (any lane)
Mirana (any lane)
Viper (middle/safe lane)
Antimage (safe lane, dual middle lane)
Riki (safe lane)
Bounty Hunter (any lane)
Phantom assassin (safe lane)
Venomancer (any lane) - spam Serpent Wards for farm/vision (you don't have to get it either but it helps)

Below are some popular choices for beginners , but you can die a lot with these heroes as well (still go give it a try):

Sniper (middle/safe lane)
Drow (middle/safe lane)
Crystal maiden (middle/safe lane) - actually very powerful early but also very easy to die
Vengeful spirit (middle/safe lane)

I remember an article about MYM's turtle-luna strategy. Pitlord crushed all pushes while luna happily free-farmed.

Considering some strategies are built around antimage farming a battle fury to farm as fast as possible, and luna basically gets that for free, there's a place for her (although she is a lot easier to kill of course).
