I would like to be playing against Viper, BB, Sven, CK & Blood, while my team would consist of CM + 3 random heroes. I know you can choose heroes using console, eg "dota_bot_force_pick npc_dota_hero_chaos_knight", but how do you ensure that these 5 appear as my enemy? Thanks I did that for a few days, while I didn't have internet You can separate them by comma and add multiple commands. (e.g. npc_dota_hero_luna,npc_dota_hero_sven,npc_dota_hero_crysta_maiden) There's only certain heroes and a bug though, so need to be careful. this explains it quite well: http://steamcommunity.com/app/570/discussions/0/350540780275044433/
Hmmm. How do I force them to be my enemies though? I choose 5, and they're mixed between radiant and dire

There is that bug I mentioned - maybe it's that? It seems like you can only pick opponent heroes properly if you're Dire.
iirc when you're on Radiant and try to force pick, they'll be randomly assigned to either team. if you do it on Dire, you can force them all to Radiant.
Also you have to pick before 45sec mark or so, as that's when the bots start picking.
It's been over a year that I have done this though, so I'm not sure if that's been changed.

How do you prevent your offlane Sniper from going 0-10 within 15 min?
How do you prevent your safelane Troll from going 2-14 in a 40 min game?
If you believe there's no way to prevent people from ruining the game for everyone else, how do you propose one going about staying sane in these painful games?
|
Well, try to be comunicative from the draft on If you can swap roles when fit.
If you're support make sure you tell your team that you can help their lane if they ask, if you're carry tell your team if you want to fight level 2 or want to farm the first 10 min nonstop. By the midgame you should have granted some trust, so just tell your teammates what to do. Even if it's not the optimal decision your team will be playing as a team, wich is good.
|
I don't know about that. It seems that if you suggest - no matter how politely and constructively - that someone is not flawless, they will destroy their items and walk down mid. At least that seems to be the case on my server EU-W around 5k mmr.
|
Don't criticize their flaws, like ever, just suggest stuff and make sure they think of you as a good teammate off the bat.
|
Im not sure that approach works. Even just suggesting things often makes people go 'stfu' or worse. At least in my experience (eu west 4k ish mmr).
|
Well it may not work 100%, but if it works 20% of the times you're already increasing your winrate.

Best strategy's to employ if you're a solo offlane getting rekt on by a tri-lane/aggressive dual other than sitting getting EXP? I'm thinking heroes like Tidehunter/Timbersaw/Earthshaker who may need that key item before coming online.
Do you simply retire to the nearby jungle with an iron talon? Sack the lane and go gank?

Take my advice with a grain of salt, but I would just try and protect my t1 while stacking camps to try and catch up on farm. But honestly 9/10 times you cant def your tower against a super aggresive trilane, so for those times i will usually just get iron talon, leech whatever xp i can, sack the t1 and just nc and carry tp scroll so i can countergank if possible.

I think neozxa's advice is pretty much on point. Your main farm is going to come from your offlane jungle camps while every time they push you try to pull the creeps back and hope your team tps if they start diving. Offlane towers are deathtraps if tps come thanks to the shrines. I don't recommend stacking anything but the ancients too much, since a lot of supports will start roaming your offlane jungle when they get left alone to try to keep you down and stacks increase the damage you take while being rewarding targets for rotations. It helps a lot to have a ward near the enemies close jungle exit/runespot or at least near your shrine.
Your main job is often not defending the tower but delaying it's demise and thereby keeping the supports in the lane. Pro teams have started pushing safelane towers earlier as a result, which often leads to the offlane t1 being the last t1 alive.

how do you guys motivate yourself to try and escape the trench
I played two games today. First game, my KotL and my Lich died 25 times combined within the first 15 min of the game. Oh well, shit happens. Things do snowball out of control. Next game was way way worse, though. Blue and teal were arguing over mid; surprisingly they rolled for it instead of straight up ruining the game which often happens when two kids with huge egoes clash. But blue who rolled lowest picked a greedy jungler instead of picking a roaming pos 4 to pressure the map. Also, our position 5 shadow shaman and our jungling pos 4 bought a total of 0 wards first 25 min. Painful inevitable 45 min loss to Tinker AM who werent pressured at all early game.
How are people this bad at this game at 5k+ blows my mind

Your first and last rows go against each other.
Sometimes you have a shit game but the result isn't what makes a game fun or not. If that is all that matters you should switch to a different game. Finding enjoyment in games where you get stomped or where you stomp alike is what makes me handle games like that. It is up to you if you enjoy a game or not, nobody else can decide that.
Sadly I fail occasionally by not muting people quickly enough. Flames and so on being what lowers my entertainment more than anything else.

Did you mean 5k+ hours of dota?
Because at 5k mmr most people will get some wards and know that jungling loses games... Also 5k is quite far from the trenches (that's like 1k-3k?) ...
One little tip to enjoy games more:
stop f****ing insisting on core games all the time!!! Problems always stem from 4 or all 5 wanting a freaking core role... Even if your 3 cores are taken, some idiots keep picking bs jungle or some crap.
Be flexible, don't bitch about having to play a 4 or 5 game... and voila, at least 5-10% better winrate... eaily.

I agree these game-ruining people probably know that wards help you win and that jungling loses games (generally speaking but ESPECIALLY against am tinker who we should have focused on pressuring early when they're vulnerable) - it's just that some assholes dont play to win ;(
I dont know if your tips to enjoy games more are directed at me. If they were:
I dont insist on core (I actually mostly play support when im playing with friends). I do prefer to play core when solo-queuing but I'm always down to roll or concede if someone else insists on playing core.
I'm always playing to win whichever position Im playing. Problem is not everyone else is ...
|
Nah, wasn't directed at you.
Just a general bit of ranting. I don't have much time to play anymore, so it's basically one evening a week, maybe two where I can sneak in 2-3 games.
I always try to play one game mid (my preferred and by far strongest role), and the rest I usually wait and see what's needed, but I do insist on my one mid game However, the last few days were just so incredibly annoying in terms of people picking 4 core-teams and then bitching at each other, because obviously no one could farm well. Had to play 6-7 solo support games, with 3 cores + jungle, so you can't even properly pull or stack anything - and I'm so sick of it. Also having an AM and an Alchemist in a team... what do you do when offlane is taken (by a Timber)? Exactly... pick BS jungle
|
Usually play around in a solo-bot game to warm up, but decided to play unranked for warm-up to change things up. No-one is marking anything or saying anything, no-one is picking. Whatever as time is about to run out, I pick Viper mid for a chill game. Here's what proceeds to happen: 2nd pick is jungle Tinker then 3rd pick offlane Sniper, 4th pick am safelane and last pick QoP...
What is it about video games that seems to attract the worst subhuman scum? Genuine question.
