Impressive performance by coL, I didn't see a lot of their games but I really liked their drafting today. Really curious to see how they will do in the playoffs.

2-0 navi doesn't seem to be a surprise anymore. I am impressed by their drafting. They are indeed very prepared.

I'm really looking forward to seeing coL vs EG. It's a very interesting matchup. Although I don't know PPD's history with the coL guys from HoN fully, my understanding is that at least at some point they were rivals and swindle etc. were coming out on top?

Not that it necessarily translates into anything in dota, but I think it sets up a very interesting match. I'm sure also in their own minds EG sees themselves as the heavy favorite. coL on the other hand plays with much less pressure and perhaps due to their competitive experience from HoN and knowing PPD from there they won't mentally crumble. And judging by their drafting this far they will come very well prepared.

Though I have a hard time seeing EG dropping the series, but I'm still excited to see it.

i mean ppd's cynical and cocky at times and he can be a bad loser but he doesn't strike me as a guy who would make up this kind of shit. tho it is 2 years old and i know nothing about the hon scene so idk.

It turned out to be mostly lies. Either PPD was making it up, or more likely, had a bad source. There's another thread as well as a youtube video on Swindle's official response. The tax/stealing money part was definitely fake, and S2 confirmed that they worked with Swindle to ensure everyone received equal prize money.

Interestingly, in the youtube video Swindle actually calls out Moon for being an "evil, vile" human being. Guess they kissed and made up.

I don't think it's that simple...

If I remember correctly, PPD got the info secondhand through Khezu (who was one of swindle's teammates who allegedly got his winnings withheld). There was a lot of back and forth going on, and I think ultimately people got paid what they deserved, but it left a bad enough of a taste in Khezu and sLiCKz mouths that they left staygreen even though they were winning all the tournaments.

I actually just read through the old forums today and my understanding is the following:

Yes, winnings were withheld for a while as that's what the US tax code mandates for foreigners earning money in the country. They eventually got it sorted out (albeit it was a contentious process and Swindle/his dad may have lied about consulting an accountant even though they were ultimately correct in withholding the $) and everyone got their fair share. All of this was resolved BEFORE ppd publicly posted that swindle stole money from Khezu/Slickz. It did leave a bad taste in Khezu/Slickz mouth, and probably prompted them to leave sG, but that was after it got resolved.

So when ppd posted the story, Khezu could have easily said something like "he didn't steal money from us, he withheld it per US tax laws and worked with S2 to get it to us and we eventually received it" but instead said something vague like "i don't confirm or deny these allegations" which simply added fuel to the fire and created a public spectacle.

It turns out Khezu had an agenda because he was mad at Swindle for wanting to kick Slickz. However people weren't sure why he was so mad as at the time Swindle told him this Khezu/Slickz were planning to leave anyways.

Again, not that simple or one-sided. Khezu said I don't cofirm or deny those allegations because he told Peter about that stuff in secret and Peter (who has a long standing and very public grudge against Swindle) wasn't supposed to leak it to the public but did. There seems to be a lot of stuff that went on behind the scenes that people allude to but don't get into detail because enough things had already went public that shouldn't have been made public.

Khezu was mad at swindle even before the tournament because he didn't like how Swindle treated him, most apparent in the infamous Khezu scout with wolves video (original vid has been taken down otherwise I'd link it).

There's more to it than that but I'm not really interested in dredging up ancient history to smear players on a team I'm fans of/players that aren't even relevant to DotA2 at the moment. I think it's sufficient to say that it was a complicated issue involving multiple events, laws in multiple countries, teenage egos, and lots of different people who handled things in the worst way possible, but that's basically how things were done in HoN and it's in the past now. Swindle called Moon a vile human being who he regretted shaking hands with, and Moon quit coL as recently as earlier this year citing disagreements with swindle, but nowadays they're praising each others' qualities in interviews.

Yeah, HoN drama might be fun to read for the same reasons why people buy tabloid magazines like National Enquirer, but pretty much all that needs to be understood is there's bad blood between the two players stemming from a controversial roster decision to kick ppd a long time ago, a lot of stuff happened in between, and both went on a collision course by switching to DotA2. Peter is being hailed as one of the best captains/drafters on NA's top team. Swindle is being praised as a great captain on NA's up and coming team. The two are now meeting in the first round of the main event of the biggest tournament in eSports history.
