I would agree that Secret is TSM of dota if you compare fanbase, but i think players are not that appealing to other audiences like League players are because of Riots strict rules about players behavior. Dota scene is too liberal for mainstream and there are many dank meme players in dota scene. I would agree tho that them being without organization behind them and wining TI shakes current situation that every proffesional player needs to be sponsored to make something big

League players are appealing to other audiences? I seriously give zero shits about any League player ever. Am I weird?
|
agreed with FHDH.i dont think league pros are that appealing outside of league.people outside of league only know about the game & the popular teams, but not the players.they dont have stars on the level of boxer, flash, jaedong, daigo, fatality, dendi etc. yet. theres alot of casual actually interested in following the dota scene.problem is they dont know how,the nature of teams & the scene in general making it hard.i think teams like secret are easy to support.good western teams with good players, good personality, playing beautiful dota & actually winning.

The only reason secret can do without a corporate sponsor is because all of them have won enough before to support such an arrangement.

Before and during their run togther , if they wouldnt start winning when they did they wouldve been in big trouble as not getting money and just spending it is VERY stressful thing for such young guys and it would hurt their chances to make it @ TI , but they did win and smashed everything in their way , so that roadblock is gone no money pressure!

big part of that big fanbase will disperse in seconds if they don't win TI, they're called bandwagoners
"casual-viewer friendly" - what does that even mean in context of Dota?
no clue on who TSM is

I still don't understand why "Secret winning TI would be good for Dota growth"
I don't think Dota will suddenly revolutionize itself no matter who wins TI5
From what I understand you're saying it would be best for the game if Secret wins just because they have the biggest fanbase?

I think this type of context are easier if you know about tsm.its basically the most popular western team in league.also easily the most popular team in that scene in general.while the players are not that popular outside league, but the team itself are huge .They started from nothing in league to ended having players in every game & getting huge sponsors. I followed league a little bit around before to early LCS days.Secret kinda have that tsm vibe to me.even in league reddit i saw some people talk about tsm acquiring secret

Yeh, I have 0 knowledge about LoL and TSM so can't really comment.
Without knowing the context, your first post sounded to me like full of bias and Secret being the second coming of Christ for Dota.
Seeing that it's not the case, let us move on.
