And sometimes they even reject those direct invites. Oh i follow the scene and i know they were invited to all tournaments directly. But if they needed to play more why not reject a direct invite and ask to go thru qualifiers? Although this is debatable. Maybe they didn't want to play qualifiers, didn't feel the need, maybe the organizers didn't want, maybe the LAN tournaments dates were at the same time than other tournaments they already accepted, maybe they couldn't play more officials. Conjectures all around, the fact is that here we are with maybe a EG vs Secret LB match.

I know it sounds a bit crazy to give up an invite.... but they've been looking pretty terrible in many of these games. Bad enough that I don't think their poor showings are the result of any one (or two or three) problems. Something does not seem to be clicking with these players - many of whom, by the way, are NOT accustomed to getting stomped repeatedly by "lesser" teams. Barring some huge reversal, does anyone really think this team has a shot at winning TI - or even placing well? Whereas I'd bet rares that any team rising from the ashes of the current Secret would AT LEAST be able to get through the qualifiers. At the very least, it has probably crossed a few of their minds.

If they don't get into TI, then history says that a disband is imminent. If they get in the event though, teams would still play it out even if planning a disband, the prize money is too good to pass up. What is going to be more interesting is who the fans going to blame? EE because he is almost always the target of flames, or RTZ for having the past teams has brought successful rosters down, if not nothing in terms of placements. Or just a myriad of factors However, I think to expect a new team to do well within a few months is so rare, especially during this time of the year when we have seen the most dominant runs of top teams occur during this time (case: Alliance Pre Ti3 and Secret 1.0 ESL)

If they finish last in Manila they shouldn't get an invite for TI6. New roster with all-awful showings. If that happens, the chance is very real.

I have hope they can at least work something out to at least play decently at TI (if they can Qualify depending of the results, or if being Major winners instantly qualify you to TI, only Valve knows).

Valve can invite DC instead because 2/5 major winners are in that team.

But frankly idk if it's even that relevant for the team. If they end up in quals and can't qualify, then not sure they would be able to perform at TI either to the level that the players would want to. It's an interesting thing to follow though, I doubt Secret really put time aside in their schedules expecting to play TI quals. Not sure what the exact dates are for those but I don't think they are too long after Manila. And also the roster speculation will run rampant if they lose in the early rounds in the bracket, hard to say much as far as that goes without knowing how things are inside the team.

Newbee was the defending champion in TI5, so it's very different. Your example would apply to the current EG if they continue to fail and fail but will still get invited to TI6 as returning champion. Do I think Secret deserve an invite if they continue this performance? No. Will they still get one? Probably, due to sheer reputation of the players. After all Valve is still in this to make money and big names like EE, Rtz or Puppey always bring a large crowd no matter how poorly they have performed. If Secret fails at this Major, chances are the players will wait until the invites come out and decide on whether to still stick together for at least another TI. If they don't get a direct invite, it's very likely that the team will break up and try their luck through the open qualifiers.

Secret "only" won a Major, and not even the last one before TI6. If they place last in Manila (which is to be expected at this point because Empire is way ahead of them), a direct invite would be a massive insult to a pretty huge number of teams that are simply better than Secret at the moment.

I doubt that winning a single Major grants invite rights for every tournament in the season plus the TI.
