Overall the whole team performed so well, from draft to execution, I hope they can keep this going for at least 6 months (altough, PPD, less salt plz, u deserve better). VG did well with their early roams on Sumail, but they really gave a bunch of those kills away for free with absolutely terrible engagements or positioning on their heroes. There was the 4 man push from VG mid, where instead of being happy with taking the tower they try to engage, icex3 gets completely caught out (Sumail gets the kill), then Fy tries to help or something and runs in to die himself to the Storm (at this point Sumail dies but doesn't lose any gold), and then Super and Fenrir try to help and die themselves. Shortly after reviving Fy then uses a tp to go farm bottom lane in vision, and the Storm revives shortly after and proceeds to take the free kill from the Shaman. I don't know what Fy was expecting to happen. Some time later again VG is looking for a fight, gets into an awkward position near Dire ancients and icex3 is completely isolated and Sumail gets the kill. Then in between Sumail had a few nice rotations I think where he got the Shaman and the TB killed, and then there was the big teamfight bottom where EG wiped VG and Sumail got credit for a few of those kills.

Chinese Interviewer: "Lots of Chinese kids play dota at a young age, what advice would you give them to become as good as you?" Sumail: "Ah, work hard and play a lot I guess. Its hard to be as good as me though." Loved the attitude and fearlessness to be so cocky in front of a large crowd at a foreign event! ![]()

Was he even trying to go pro back then? By himself, in Pakistan, with no team? Which server did he play on? And his family's move to US is related to his Dota career or not? How quickly did he get noticed in NA?

he was a kid. played video games, some online. He played a variety, sometimes dota sometimes not dota. he got pretty good in dota but you literally can't go pro as a 13 y/o kid in pakistan, you can't even think about it. best you can do is dream about TI, which he says he did at some point. His family moved to america. Which isn't shocking, people who don't live in first world countries generally would like to move to first world countries. in the US he played more dota, played NEL cuz mm sux or something, realized that he was good and wanted to be the best (queue pokemon theme song). Got noticed by tralf, played scrims with tralf, got stolen by PPD aka NEL fiend.

Tralf, him, and Yawar(his brother) were on one team together and they played officials/did decently well.

I thought that he's this good because he started playing very early and dedicated a lot to it. But it seems like Dota is just something that he plays, to which he only commits fully once he came to the US not a long time ago. So basically he has at most 2 years worth of playing full time, and yet he is this good.

And started playing the game casually when he was 7. He probably has more DotA experience than most people on this board.

They played many different styles in the tournament. Of course I still enjoy the fact that PPD drafts according to his team, rather then blindly copying what other teams are doing. I think 2p or Hot_Bid have mentioned this in articles, but EG didn't blink when it came down to choosing PPD or RTZ (unlike Na'Vi) and for good reason; the guy's drafting and leadership are insane (and he has an immense chip on his shoulder). The current iteration of EG is probably even more flexible as Sumail is probably better at playing space makers than Fear did(post TI4) while Aui (while is farming patterns/leadership is different from zai) is a pretty similar swap in terms of skill and hero pool Fear was a fucking amazing mid. Hell he won a 1 v 1 mid tournament before he was even playing mid for EG. He played some amazing puck and brewmaster games. He is a legend for a reason.
