I think 2p or Hot_Bid have mentioned this in articles, but EG didn't blink when it came down to choosing PPD or RTZ (unlike Na'Vi) and for good reason; the guy's drafting and leadership are insane (and he has an immense chip on his shoulder). The current iteration of EG is probably even more flexible as Sumail is probably better at playing space makers than Fear did(post TI4) while Aui (while is farming patterns/leadership is different from zai) is a pretty similar swap in terms of skill and hero pool Fear was a fucking amazing mid. Hell he won a 1 v 1 mid tournament before he was even playing mid for EG. He played some amazing puck and brewmaster games. He is a legend for a reason.
Oh I agree; he was a great mid and he plays some great spacemaking heroes (he won the fistful of tangoes when he was on EG and Fear's very original role in Dota1 was mid actually) and he's probably the greatest NA player of all time, but Sumail's pool is different and he plays certain heroes at an exceptional level. Fear's versatility/stability at the carry role is also immense (Aui has stated he was surprised at how good he is) so I thought the current EG iteration is better lol. I'm not dissing fear at all, I just think Sumail's skill level is pretty incredible. goody is the one who has repeated how PPD has stated sad boys EG had more talent than current EG.

Sumail plays the more flashy mids, Fear played when he was mid more of the tempo controllers. That said, I like this EG line up, I was a bit nervous after D2L but I'm feeling really good for them. I think for sure they have what it takes to win TI5 as long as they stay hungry. Nice thing is, they don't seem to me like they were a meta team, they picked some very atypical heroes, and were very innovative. So I don't think a patch will set them back. Just gotta stay focused. Can you imagine if they win TI5 too? They will be talked as one of the best teams ever.

i'm actually very glad that EG won this. this tournament was comparable or in essence imo supposed to be a TI, just in asia....
i realistically thought EG had no chance of winning this. it just seems like a recurring trend for fear in that, he'd work hard, but the people around him that he invest in, quit halfway or don't live up to the same expectations he holds for himself. i'm really glad his hard work and commitment to the game he was good at paid off in the long run....despite what seemed to be his final chance at redemption with zai and rtz, having them quit on him must be such a hard blow....
this really seemed like an underdog story for me cause man i followed fear's career as far back as he is old. played him multiple times in pubs which were the hardest games in my life and always wondered, if other people play this guy how is he losing this much? just really happy he's got a good team around him and aren't phased by setbacks, the fire and hunger are there still despite so many fucking setbacks that would make anyone quit.
on another note i hope this victory paves way to the younger generation. age is not a factor in success as long as you have the right environment, opportunity, and training. obviously i'm not talking about being 80 years old or 5, but age should not disqualify you from chasing a dream you truly desire. i would also like to note, generally people from 3rd world countries i won't say all, that do come to america have a much harder work ethic than most of those already residing in america. i mean the reasoning is simple, they've had nothing their whole lives, and they value opportunities that are often times taken for granted in america as an average day person. with that, the work ethic surpasses them or at least braces them for almost any hardship they must endure to succeed. programmers who are indian are also like this in that when they come over they generally can program twice as fast as the top paid programmers and they are willing to be paid less, now i'm not using that as a flame or anything, or to start an argument about immigration laws, just to kind of give a picture of the work ethic the people who never had anything, has.
sumail wasn't by anymeans anyone who was born talented, got lucky, he worked hard for it and he started young. so now not only has he paved the way for anyone in NEL to have the potential to be looked it, it kind of gives those looking to seek to become a progamer, hope in more of a how to do it. so now you guys know you have to make yourself noticed in NEL, eventually there will be a spot on a pro team if you are consistent in your success for long enough.

How long until Secret tries to poach SumaiL?

Can I just comment on the hilarious irony of EG (or GGA) being the DotA team that brings in the rookie players and gives them a chance to shine, while Liquid fans want TL to sign the team of superstars who jumped ship?

Fear has become more than an old man.
|
Last night I had a dream I played Storm in Sumail's shoes in that fight near rosh pit in G3 :D

Not an EG fan by any means.
But they played some awesome Dota in the later stages of DAC .

Anyone knows when EG are playing in any tourney next?

You can check it here
Liquiddota Calendar (the glorious flexible event calendar that is only available in liquiddota)
or Gosugamer upcoming matches
They are playing this February 18 o WePlay against Wheel .. Whoever that team is.
|
Ah, thx. Im a newb it seems, didnt think about filtering for EG in the calendar
Anyone have any info on Wheel? I heard PPD say on the stream the other day when he was searching for a game "Who the fuck is Wheel", but I dunno if he asked cause Wheel were playing against FIRE at the time, or if it was because he saw that EG is playing against them in some days.
|
i'm as clueless as ppd about wheel lol
it should be an easy stomp or it could also be an upset if ppd remains clueless about Wheels

This is pretty great actually. As an old sc2 fan it has taken me a while to learn to love eg but the way they do business in dota really works for me. I'm loving having a powerful NA squad to root for.

Ok let me help you
Relic --> the guy who won vs RTZ 1v1 (the null talis shit) if he's on point he's sick.
Tolera--> Ex root Gudii ---> Same, has been playing with relic for a while, also known as FanOfSoyeon
Durpdurp ->no idea
Sleisel --> almost 7k? (i think) player, he's known for being bitchy and not performing up to what he should given his reputation.
So they're not bad, but beating EG should be an upset (as in any NA team beating EG lol)
|
Nowadays it won't surprising for some random t2 team beating the top teams once in a whie tbh .. especially if they know no shit about them lol

Nice to see EG playing well after the reshuffle, that Sumail kid is really good (I actually started learning to play Tinker after seeing his performance at DAC). Hope they continue to perform, they are currently my second favorite team (just after Secret, because Puppey <3 ).
