Obviously subjective.
Oh no, we obviously need a HYPE-O-METER so hype can be accurately measured and we must be sure we give the exactly right amount of hype it deserves.
(Sarcasm ends here.)
I, also coming from the SC2 scene, am very impressed by Valve. Their business model, community feedback and fast paced development (yes, you read that right. You guys can't even begin to imagine the colossal amount of work that is to port a game to a different engine) is looking to be going in the right direction.
Custom games taking advantage of this platform that is becoming Dota 2 is gonna be awesome.
DotaTV seems to be getting on track. It still needs more improvements of course, but that's a pretty good start.
New UI looks damn fine. I agree with someone who said it's very important to have a good UI to either cater to new players and to keep/rise engagement of existing players.
This first update seems to be a very good start to the greatness we all want Dota to become. Valve sure seems to be on board and this first update puts them waist deep, if not deeper, into the overall idea of developing Dota 2 into something awesome (pretty much the opposite of Blizzard which barely scratches the surface of innovation).
Oh god, hype-o-meter is blasting with red alerts, I must stop.

currently its quite hard and limited. hopefully source 2 solves all these problems or at least sets the foundation for the problems to be solved easily, either is expected to happen
i am confused too because they told the workshop artists to stop making cosmetics/custom game so i thought source2 is about a fundamental update/revamp of the codes/ingame models or something, but it turned out to be like something like moving/expanding the game to a bigger/improved platform to accommodate better development in future (epsecially for custom game)?
In that case it should have been called source 1.5? Because everything i will get it is essential the same thing/what i expected since 2011. Anyway if the game is more optimized/polished after this then I am happy, more so if we can finally get the custom games going haha
also wtf the mirana face looks better in the hype pic or is it just me???

huh? they havent even talked about source 2 yet.
dota reborn is a combination of a brand new client AND a brand new game engine, the two are separate to each other

Of course custom map will be exiting But in the end we come for dota
I only care for the hero MMR because i believe i supposed to be at the higher mmr than i am now :p
How many times are you going to say the same fucking thing dude?
The first one i post only after seing the 1st page of this thread This new one I post after I actually went to dota 2 site Hoping I get the hype, or anyone could elaborate
But of course, everyone needs to be sarcastic and rude in respond anything that contrary to their opinion
Look at andy jay comment above this post Exactly what I mean Game experience is the most important I am hype if we get Zet and Pit Lord though That will move to heroes that we never seen before

so on one hand i am really looking forward to what dota is in 12 months time, but on the other hand i couldnt care less wether the patch comes this week or in 3 months.
Exactly my point This is a very important and great update But not really that hype worthy This will still be the same dota through and through I personally gonna spend 90% of my time in game
The way the game looks and feels outside of the actual game is really important though, especially in a multiplayer/online game. I, and a lot of other people from what I've heard, hate the interface and layout of Sc2. It just feels empty. I never used chat in sc2, I never watched a pro game in sc2 and it just felt like it was more of single player and twitch game to me. Improving the interface, layout and options in Dota, making it feel more interactive, more alive and all that is pretty huge. Like, outside of a major patch or a complete gameplay overhaul it doesn't get much bigger announcement wise. This trumps a random hero announcement to me.

Source 2 is a massive engine update, but the actual game will of course stay the same. You wouldn't expect them to re-write all that weird Dota 2 gameplay code that they've spend the last three years fixing.
For example, Source 2 will have a new modern rendering subsystem. If I am not mistaken, Source 1 still runs on DirectX 9, which is very inefficient in terms of CPU use and handling heavily multi-threaded games (which all games try to be now since the CPUs are improving more in terms of core count rather than the individual core performance). Source 2 will support the new cool APIs such as DirectX 12 (only on Windows 10 though) and Vulkan (whenever the GPU drivers will start supporting it) which will result in a massive win for older CPUs or multi-core CPUs with worse single-core performance. Meaning it'll run way better on shitty laptops, but not too different on high end PCs.
All game assets (models, textures, animations) will stay the same, however I'd imagine that the lighting/shading model in the new engine is very different, which is why all current assets will very likely have to be converted in order to be usable in the new engine and look the same as they do now. This conversion process is probably automated, but still has to be done at some point. This is probably the reason why they've asked artists to stop producing new art based on the old lighting model until they've published the new lighting/texturing guides.

im just gonna steal this when i try to explain to ppl wat the performance changes will be like
now that makes more sense lol. The advertisement page is misleading really, 'new engine' at the top and after i skim through the page i didnt see any fundamantal changes/literally a page of introducing new UI (which i couldn't care less). I know there will be part2+3 but thats all they told us in part1.

This is probably a shitty analogy, but think of the engine as a record player and the game as the record. You can get a new record player, and it will be better in a lot of ways (all the knew knobs and buttons, more options to hook it up to a better sound system etc.), but it's still the same old record even if you stick it into the new player :-D
What they did not mentioning I believe is the fact that this client will be done on 64Bit platform. So, all as 32 bit users will be left out in a cold. I even not sure how it will work.

There are both 32 and 64 bit versions of the test client.
I hope it'll be really smother. My pc is pretty garbage and i cant afford a new one for the next months. Anyway i thought source 2 would just come out with HL3. HL3 confirmed?

im pretty sure there have been screenshots and stuff showing hl3 folder, which implies it's in development (if it wasnt already obvious)
