Interesting that the art/design team has already made some real investment into this with the new map and custom kobold centerpiece (and whatever else). It'll be interesting to see just how much work they put into assets for map makers. Of course people will benefit from things like the Desert Map and other such things whenever they are released, but how many artist hours are they willing to spend on an ongoing basis to continue to add assets? Just developing the bestiary goes a long way (and has a long way to go). It'll also be interesting to see how much they are willing to contribute to a code library. Of course, they could just continue to release custom maps themselves and let people riff off of those but this limits what they add to the assets to what is included in a comprehensive map vision rather than "we thought you could use cave trolls, giant wasps, and crocodiles so we added them." So far - no monetization has been even hinted at - this is all an investment to grow the playerbase in the hope that they spend money on what is already monetized. How much further investment they deem worthwhile remains to be seen. I'm sure in the long term this will be determined by internal data, but by the nature of this project that data will always be a trailing indicator, as investments into the tools to make custom games will require the community to then use those tools to create maps, those maps to attract players, and those players to spend money.

![]() Also I like the avg MMR showing on live games. edit: anyone understand how the open beta is supposed to work? Does everyone just go into it and the old version is RIP or will people still be playing on the source 1 version too.

My first read through was just a quick glance at everything but I didn't really have time to soak it all in (busy, etc). Everything seems super cool, I'm actually fairly happy overall. I'm sure I will nitpick a lot of little things when it's released but I can't be mad at this ![]() Also I like the avg MMR showing on live games. edit: anyone understand how the open beta is supposed to work? I wonder if they'll ever just bite the bullet and show everyone's mmr/stats 24/7 like a normal competitive game. I would love to have divisions/rankings/leagues etc. I think profiles will never have much meaning except for showing how much you care about hats unless they do this. Maybe playing ranked enables all the stats/division tracking stuff. If you want out, just don't play ranked.

Actually that is not what you call open beta. Open beta means that everything is available to you, but you know there will be some bugs along the way. So ranked MM, hats and everything else will be available in the open beta, but if your game crashes in a RMM and you lose because of the client, don't start blaming valve

Its one of the worst parts of leagues system, people using data mining sites find your information. I like my information private, including my ranking and MMR.
