The only thing he might consider changing is improved archon for teleport if he prefer some mobility over extra dps. He might also want to test out how he does with storm armour scramble instead of prismatic to speed up things even further. I never said it wasn't...I said I would throw in my opinion for what i believe would be more effective. Please keep your bad manner to yourself and read first. He asked for advice I gave him MY advice..I even mentioned other Wiz would chime in. He also asked how to play it..I stated how I would play it...sigh... I don't think any experienced wiz out there would agree that arcane orb + hydra is more effective than archon (assuming good or decent gear). Arcane orb + hydra is probably a better choice if your gear is relatively low, since it allows you to play more carefully and defensively (running away, kiting, avoiding hits, etc.). With the right gear, archon is *much* better than this arcane orb/kiting style due to the way it allows you to just push forward without any need for kiting. Packs of trash die immediately, and elites only take a few seconds -- with orb/hydra it's not as fast Yet again fail to pay attention...I never mentioned anything about getting rid of the archon build itself nor did I ever say it was better(infact i mentioned that it was better in the original post....)....I offered to remove magic missle and change his armor, THAT IS IT. You really should just not post here. Evertything you told him is basically wrong if he wants to improve.
@LingsAreBunnies: Your life is high enough, anything above 30k is fine. Your damage should also be high enough for archon and you have the life steal. If you're still dying I would say it's your resistances. I basically dont die more than once or twice a run when I'm in solo and mostly to banelings. My armor and resistances, buffed, are like 5000 and 700.

I wouldn't go that far. Just a different perspective. Everyone is going to have their own variations..that's what makes the game. What works for him might not work for someone else. Doesn't make it wrong or bad..No build is set in stone.

Hm there's really no need for getting mad/hostile and such by calling out "fails" and using CAPS etc. In any case, excuse my "fail", but I'm pretty sure I did read this from you: "I said I would throw in my opinion for what i believe would be more effective."
There. You 'threw in' your opinion that your build using orb/hydra + kiting "would be more effective". I'm fine with your opinion being that it suits *your personal* play-style / habits better, or even that orb/hydra+kiting is more *fun* than archon (at sufficient gear level), but it's really not too helpful to tell him that your preferred style would "be more effective". It's a less "effective" setup in terms of how effective it is at farming, simple as that.

guys dont be rude, iamtrickster only stated his opinion and trying to help! ^^ what hes doing probably works great for him, since his char seems pretty solid to me.
I made some changes, trading about 10k dps for 10k hp, but it feels like Im still dying somewhat frequently.
disco: hm thats weird, I have 750ish all resist and around 4500 armor, but pretty much every phasebeast elite and almost anything damaging with jailer usually kills me multiple times per run, especially if they also have shielding.
|
@Lings
if your armor is just 4.5k buffed, try raising it to around 6k (at least 5.5k or so), keeping the same (or more) HP/res. Don't do it if it would make you lose too much DPS, or if it would cost more than you're interested in spending.
If you can manage to pull together around 6k+ armor & ~800 all res buffed, you should definitely be fine. Anything getting close to those numbers should mean you're fine too
|
Could also try using a decent shield with crit all resist and high intel, woud lose some dps but will gain tons of toughness.
I have always used a shield and always will

You want about 900 all resist and 7k armor with around 700 loh or 1k life regen. Reasoning is that when you are tanking damage, you need enough resist for the initial burst damage then you need enough regen or loh to maintain long enough for the mob to die. My mage only tanks. Highest dps I have achieved with him is 24k in act 3 but I don't die. I sit on 11k armor, 1100 resist, 1k regen , 1500 loh and 12% reduction from ranged.
I am saving up so I can get a nice blackthornes surcoat

Anyone got any advice on the best way to develop my wizard? My gear is basically junk, what should be the first step in upgrading it? I've got about 650k, so buying a bunch of good items is difficult. I'm wondering what slots/stats I should prioritize. I'm currently doing public Azmodan runs hoping to be grouped with people with good gear that don't mind giving other people a boost. Is this the most efficient way to try to gear up?

You need to be doing a1 runs with those stats. First of all, take that ruby out of that 2 hander lol. Put an emerald in it, preferably a star. Get a ring and some gloves with crit hit chance. It is all very cheap besides the star emerald. Search ring crit hit chance 3, intelligence. Gloves crit hit chance 9, intelligence. Doing all that might put you at 30k - 40k dps if ur lucky.
Edit - You need new gloves desperately anyway so search for all resist on those too. 50 all resist is cheap as well.
|
Just search all resist/vit/intel on all your armour with max buyout 50k and you will get massive upgrades on everything and int+crit chance/crit damage on rings/gloves/bracers. Get a helm with a socket in it and put the best ruby you can afford in it.

Sup doods, I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to let me try on for 10 seconds an offhand that has around 100-400 damage to see how much dps I would gain from it

Is an easy way to test the effect of new gear.

aw crap!
shoulda looked here at lunch time instead of spending 3.5 mill on testing if a 1120 black one hander with socket, thats 200 dps mor than my current weapon, makes up for 80% cd... which it doesnt.

Are there any good boss archon wiz here? I would like to see some gear. I am only currently messing around with archon build and I seem to enjoy it quite a lot. I have around 45% crit chance, with 700 all resistance, 2400 life regen, 34k life, 5800 armor with 3% life steal on my weapon. I currently around 91k dps. I would like to level + MP farm with some other archon wiz if possible for extremely fast runs.

does the "20% more fire damage taken" mean that you take more fire damage from enemies, or it increases the fire damage you do to enemies? it reads like the former.
edit: get rid of all those vitality gems and put in some intelligence gems. you should also buff up your crit hit dmg.

Not sure what to prioritize, though. Thanks!
What are you having difficulty with? I finished Act 4 with way worse stats than these.
