Use Piercing Orb (From Shock Pulse) as soon as you unlock it (level 33). It's amazing for a signature. I would recommend to use Blizzard/Arcane Orb with it. You can pretty much clear nightmare with any build though it's up to your style. edit: Also, never considered Critical Chance/Damage at all.... been spamming/buying INT so far (I'm only level 51 atm though). Thanks for posting it here though!
Don't bother with crit until you can afford to drop 3M+ per piece and 10M+ for a weapon IMO. The gear is crazy expensive right now.

Traded out my big hefty 2h that I've sworn by for so long with some AP on crit gear. I picked up an average wand and an ok source and hat just to try it out and I was sold. I'm currently sitting on 26 AP on crit, 36% crit and even with the 1.4 attack speed and no signature spells I'vee yet to feel starved for AP.
Dropped a fair ammount of DPS as my old 2h' was rather solid, but it's worth the smoother playstyle. Using the average orb build, Tap the source, venom hydra, teleport, skin, force armor, force weapon. Can stroll around and kill most Champs/elites without deaths unless they got some funky affix combo.

Ok so after last few days of comments and reading few other forums I am ready to make the switch from 2H to 1H and orb. Current weapon is ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/BdMqf.jpg) My question is what should I look for from the 1H as the least amount of damage to be happy with. Like is 700+ ok for starting point? Should I hold out for 900+? Then does the source need to have 100-300 range? Just looking for a general starting point as right now I have for stats are the following in reference to weapon stats. Crit - 25.50% Crit Dmg - +192% Int - 1612 Armor - 2500 DPS - 38K HP - 30K
I believe I should be looking for the 1H with Int/Crit Dmg/Socket and anything else is a bonus. For source I should seek out High Crit chance/Socket? I just do not know where to weigh in things like AP on crit, is this a must? I intend to spend 25-35$ on weapon and fair price on the source if I can find stuff on Gold stuff at good price I am open to that too. Just want to make sure my understanding of what a 1H and source needs are correct for me having pretty balanced stats currently. Thanks for any help one can provide!

Man I thought for a second that was a 1Her and I was going to jizz all over your picture.
To be honest with that budget I would just stick with a 2Her, maybe look for an upgrade. Sources have become quite expensive lately and a 900+ DPS weapon with 60+% crit, some int, and a socket will probably be upwards of 40M. A Source at max range (100-400) with int and high crit chance is likely the same price.
I would say you should be willing to drop 25M (or cash equivalent) at least on just the weapon if you want to make the switch.
EDIT: Of course to reach the same efficiency as your current weapon it will cost way less than that but I would just skip the hassle of searching for a Source (since you can't search by damage range finding a decent one is super tedious) when it won't be a huge difference making the switch.

Ok thanks Curu I thought I might get a response like that and yeah I only have 28M right now and going to buy a recipe or two first since I feel my gear is ok right now for Act 1/2. Now if I could get similiar results and DPS and drop 50$ on RMAH I am game but not sure how much a 20M weapon translates in real money currently probably 150$?
|
Well there's an 858 dps 1H with 61% crit and a socket right now with the current bid at 1 million. You can see if you can snipe that for under 10M, just search for 1H and Critical Damage > 101. It's called Searing Judge.
944 DPS 1H with 95% crit damage called Massacre Desire for 12M current bid ending in 9 hours (search Crit Damage > 90).
If you can find a nice deal go for it. Both are a lot better than your current weapon. You'll be unlikely to get ~950 DPS, Crit Damage AND a socket but you can likely get one without the socket and/or Crit Damage or with both but less DPS.

If I'm in Hell, which gems should I be putting on my stuff? So far I have been doing a balance of Vitality + Intelligence and Attack Damage on weapons when possible
|
I have hit a wall of money so I have to pick one stat and here is my doubt I can either pick +227 armor or +120 vit for second stat for a glove, which one do you guys think would do better ? I know armor ignore all damages and stuff but +120 vit seems sexy ....
|
illusive, i piked up a 760 dps, 1,2 attak second, 190 int, 65% crit damage + soket for 12€ few days ago. so id say to find a good deal with a 800 dps or so should be around 20€. a nice source with at least 7% crit chance, decent damage ( around 150 base) + 150 int and some other goodies might be another 10€, take your time buying the stuff since ull be able to find better deals that way.

Right now I have 130% crit damage, 30.5% crit chance, 13% IAS and 1559 Intellect. I'm wondering if I'm abandoning too much intellect for the other stuff? It's pretty clear whenever I don't crit I'm not doing any damage at all. (these could be improved w/ a really nice amulet I have but it would be ~+1000 dps for ~-3500 hp and I'm not willing to do that at this time)
Also, what build is the best for these kind of stats? It would seem that Blizzard would be the best 'cause it ticks so many times, but I'm not sure how crits work with Blizzard. The other thing I'm doing is AO/MM with Temporari Flux, but I'm open to other stuff.

Your crit damage is really low, it probably isn't worth it to look for crit items unless you can boost that higher.

Just from eyeballing your stats you could probably up your DPS a ton if you can up your crit damage since you have a high crit chance. You need to plug your numbers in a DPS calculator/spreadsheet to make sure though.
Blizzard does crit, the damage numbers just doesn't show in yellow text because it is "continous" damage and the damage text are just "updates" on the damage you do in that time span (every half a second). Personally I like using blizzard builds with a slow 2h'ed mace because it makes blizzard hit harder but really just play whatever you like. High crit is beneficial to both blizz or AO builds.

THE COMPLETE KICKBOXER WIZARD BUILD FOR ANYONE WITOUT UBER GEAR
There is only one build for the undergeared and it simply includes all the best spells.
teleport - fracture + illusionist
This is the best combo of the class and one you should never play without unless you vastly outgear anything you are doing. It gives you a spammable blink that creates damage soaking clones in return for a single spell slot and a passive.
arcane orb - tap the source
The rofl spell of the wizard. It does more damage than anything else (wtf?) in a giant AoE radius, is castable on the move and costs next to nothing. There is no reason whatsoever to use mm instead of orb unless you are playing in a 3 man setup or doing Diablo, because there is no time for you to go oom.
blizzard - snowbound
Blizzard is awesome and the rune makes it dirt cheap. Teleport, hydra and blizzard is enough to kill almost any elite in the game just by spamming and running around.
hydra - venom hyrda
In two words, venom hydra is completely broken. This thing does about 50% of your overall dps while you are uselessly trying to dodge all the inane abilities the idiot elites are spamming at you. For some reason venom hydra does about three times the damage of any other hydra, except mammoth hydra which does no damage.
diamond skin - crystal shell / prism
Prism lets you spam orbs when you find a good position to do so. Together with force armor it also keeps you alive. This is the only debatable slot, you might want to put force weapon or familiar in it if you prefer a faster and more boring playstyle with higher repair costs.
energy armor - force armor
No comment.
You also take Astral Presence and a passive of your choice. Illusionist is not debatable.
I have personally tried out every single ability in the game both for the lulz and as a serious choice and the above spells are simply vastly superior to anything else. The only slots you can ever replace until you are facerolling is the diamond skin slot. Once you have really good gear you can also replace orb for ray of frost which is a lot worse but makes for a lot more fun. All other wizard spells and runes are useless. Blizzard did an abysmal job at the numbers, the reason why channeled spells do less damage than a spammable aoe nuke is impossible to understand.
P.s. always clear a large area where you can kite before engaging elites.

Total Wizz noobie here, played DH only in softcore. I want 4 defensive abilities to stay alive (hardcode), what 2 offensive abilities are the best? Are signature spells worth it?

Venom hydra does disgusting DPS for a single slot and is great because it wacks away at whatever you are trying to run from. Very strong. Blizzard is another good choice to kite b/c of the slow. I'd recommend snowbound when you unlock it to take casting cost down to 20 from 45. Teleport and diamond skin are a must to stay alive too. Someone else can probably give you a more definitive guideline.

I run bilzzard/hydra/mm in hardcore. If you are intent on only using two offensive abilities, then your only reasonable choices are AO and hydra (with temporal flux for snaring), but AO/hydra has less survivability than blizzard/hydra/mm until you reach gear levels that can sustain AO.

I also use blizzard/hydra/mm on my hardcore wizard, though I'm only level 55 currently. I agree with what Kambing has said, and my recommendation would be blizzard/hydra/signature (some use piercing orb rather than MM). Blizzard/hydra/signature also doesn't commit you to using the temporal flux passive in addition to being overall safer. If you really want to use 4 defensives, you can just call blizzard a defensive ability lol. Its damage is pretty secondary to the slowing anyway in my opinion. That said, AO/hydra is definitely a fine build as well, particularily if your gear is in good shape for the content you are in. I used AO until hell difficulty myself, and might eventually switch back to it at 60 if i get some pretty good gear.

Man u havent tried arcane torrent well enough/ havent adjusted to the dif in kiting with it, but its as good as arcane orb. Each has its own advantages over each other, more range and bigger aoe vs more versatily in targetting and more hits aka crits, but it is actually more ap/damage efficent.
arcane torrent seems so underrated

I pretty much don't use temporal flux anymore. Cold bow scoundrel is too good.
