I've got about 30k hp, 11% move speed, 400-500 all resis, 3250 armor
I'm using a 950+ dps 2 handed bow and I'm in the middle of act 2. After the upgrades I bought and hte lucky finds that I've got, I've experimented with both crossbows and regular bows (which have more of a range of attack dmg).
I'm wondering why lots of people are using cross bows. They are inconvenient to kite with, but yes they offer more DPS/much better crits. I find that using a regualr 2 handed bow is much more fun due to the kiting ability (I think of the comparison as a marauder with stim = regular 2 handed bow, versus, a marauder without stim = xbow).
Has anyone here been able to finish inferno or at least get far into act 4 using a 2 handed bow?
EDIT: Also, in response to those discussing whether getting an MF exclusive gear is worth it to switch b4 killing elites, it's REALLY easy to do. Even easier since you can just hit "4" (for example) if an elite comes close and just go invis for a bit. Also, D3 is super easy to micro so might as well have a challenge.

Has anyone here been able to finish inferno or at least get far into act 4 using a 2 handed bow? You can easily get around 2~ attacks per second with x-bow, rings/amulets/quiver/glove gives me 1.8 (2.0 if they ever fix ias bug on pants) and I don't find kiting hard (7% ms as well). The fact that you're constantly moving and kiting makes xbows good for more damage output. I suppose a bow would offer more damage on your initial sharpshooter burst if the enemies aren't charging you (though you do get 50% crit damage with xbow).
Also I find the min-damage helps alot.

Still really fucking hate DH. Your dps is punished immensely for doing anything but standing still, pumping SS and nether tentacles.
Worst class design i've ever seen in any game. You have to knowingly gimp yourself to make any bossfight entertaining and hardcore is completely unplayable past act 1 inferno regardless of spec and gear.
GG Blizz, fun class. Supposed to be the most mobile and skill based, in reality the most mindless piece of shit ever.

Does anyone have any tips regarding how to deal with those annoying phasebeasts and soul rippers in the tower with (especially)reflect damage/fast/mortar/whatever else? Or do you guys restart if you encounter such an elite? Usually these mobs appear at the start, so theres not much room for kiting :/

You can play a more mobile DH if you want... I almost never stand still and ss spam but rather kite to doorways/chokes and use spike traps (3 130k crits hurt and that's with shitty gear) then nether spam when they hit the traps (so the tentacles hit while sharpshooter buff is still up). Run away, rinse, repeat.
I mean sure if you gear out to the point where you can kill everything in 1.5s-3s so you can just ss and face tank it then ya that's a little less interesting... but at that point you've 'beaten' the game so what do you expect?
The only real way we've been lied to is that vault pretty much sucks because of its cast time and buggy nature.

III, killing the siege equipment now. Had to stop for a little to get a good xbow (went from 830dps to 1100 with +100dex) and some better armor (gave me another 5-8k damage), but with that new gear the mobs at my current area aren't too difficult other than some of the nastier elite packs. I just haven't had time to progress yet, I keep getting distracted by the Cavern of Frost.
My build is the standard Hunger, Nether, SS, Prep core with Caltrops (2s immobilize) and Spike Trap Scatter. I know people like rain of vengence and what not, but I find Spike trap works more consistently for me as an way to keep enemies off me because I can be more mobile while kiting (spike trap is good DPS with low time commitment) vs champions and vs trash packs you can put it infront of you to blow up anything that leaps in or tries to get close to you. Vault is unusable for me (I really don't know how people do it) so that's not an alternative for the slot either.
I also have 65k damage (with sharpshooter) with only +40% attack speed (all armor/quiver) which is an important distinction perhaps since spike trap doesn't really benefit from high IAS unless it works like hydra (does it?).

Spike traps aren't bad but don't really dent elites in a meaningful way. I have 50k without sharpshooter on (110k with) and I can't even do elites effectively without zerging with ss spam. There's only maybe 20-30% of elite packs where I can expect to down them without dying. Rest is just zerging. Good luck running away from lickers and phasebeasts.

Just SS immediately when you hear "the." He has some other line talking to tyreal about how the corruption cannot be stopped, but that one is unimportant.

Here's what DH should be like:
Smoke screen now lasts 5 seconds and is given a 15 sec cooldown. Invisibility breaks if you deal damage, with rune, invisibility lasts 3 seconds and doesn't break on dmg (some other rune would cut cd to 10 sec).
Brooding now reduces dmg taken from all sources by 15%, healing is increased to 3% per sec.
Tactical Advantage is removed from the game and the movement speed grant is natively added to the respective abilities.
Shadow Power duration is increased to 5 secs, Gloom rune (+65% dmg reduction) is increased to +65% dmg reduction from melee and +100% reduction from ranged attacks). Discipline cost increased to 17.
Night Stalker is now merged with Sharpshooter.
Vault now increases dodge chance by 100% for 1 second.
Nether Tentacles are now fixed (don't deal excessive dmg to enemies with large models).
Natalya's 4 piece setbonus is removed and replaced with a +5 to maximum discipline bonus.

Tentacles that 2hit do 310% weapon damage (155% twice) for 10 hatred. A 3x hit on spike trap is 825% weapon damage for 30 (or 275%/10 hatred so only a bit worse hatred efficiency) . Spike trap with scatter is a slightly longer attack animation, but it's maybe only 1.5x the length so to me it seems like more dps. If you gear for very high IAS then I don't think Spike trap is necessarily worth it, but if you have a more moderate amount (like my 40%) and gear with a focus on crit damage, dex, and that sort of thing boosting your damage they'll deal serious damage. Even ss spam face tanking you can just drop traps at your feet (I do this to goblins actually) and deal some hefty AoE.

So I'm a demon hunter noob, (gave up on act 2 inferno as a barb until 1.03) an was wondering what are the must-have items for a demon hunter? I already have a 950 dps xbow and a nice rare quiver I found. 2xrings with dex and atk spd, same with ammy. I did find a nice rare boots with 150+ dex, vit, and 12% movement speed. I don't have alot of money though (around a million) so a budget suggestion would also be nice. Thanks for the future help.

so you're missing a chest piece, helm, shoulders, bracers, pants, and gloves.. Since your budget is low, for chest piece and pants, find something with as much dex on it as possible while also having the max sockets (3 for chest, 2 for pants) and farm/craft emeralds to put in them. Socketed helms are much more in demand/expensive, and since it doesnt look like you have any MF to begin with, you could search for a helm with the highest dex and ignore everything else. You can do the same for bracers and shoulders for now as well. I'd spend the majority of your gold on gloves since that can be your biggest DPS boost. Ideally you want to find somehting with high dex + IAS + crit damage + crit chance. For your budget, high values of 2 of those values would be doable, maybe possible to find a good deal with 3 of them. Once your DPS is maxed out whatever items you can afford on your budget, go on farming runs and replace your gear one by one with the 'best in slot' items (andy helm, natalya's set, etc)
Edit: I should add that for boots, high dex and +move speed would be best, and if you dont already have +8 discipline on your quiver, you should look to find a 3 socket cloak with dex and +8 discipline.

Why are people hating on Vault so much? Granted, I'm only in A2 Hell on my DH, and don't have move speed % on my boots yet, but it seems to be the go-to skill for keeping distance, along with Caltrops. I haven't really noticed it being that buggy, care to explain?

It triggers at 1/3 and 2/3 health.

Sometimes it will doublecast for no reason at all and the second jump will be in a random direction and often get you killed.

You may be able to find dex/crit dmg/crit chance gloves, but anything with dex + attack speed + any other dps stat is probably going to be 1mil or over unless it has like 30dex.

Vault has a delay/cast time which will kill you instantly a lot of the time.
