survivability depends on your playstyle. if you are fine with kiting a pack until it dies, then you may not even use disc in the process at all. the disc regen is mostly for traveling fast and popping gloom in the process of doing so.

i think with players8, unless your gear is super super good(i have 180k dps nonss and i think that's not enough), nat set will not be as good because of the nerf to toc. the dps requirement is going to be higher, and you are no longer faced with farming efficiency that is limited by movespeed only.

Your follower's MF is affected by this cap. There's no way to get above 300% (375% with NV).



MF from followers let's u go over the "cap" for now. Probably be fixed by next patch/hotfix though.

Did a bit of experimentation with 3 different styles. 120k DPS with Steady Aim and Archery, no SS. I have Inna's Pants, no hatred regen gear, no nat's set and 39 disc. Do other DHs share the same conclusions as me?

Skills: Gloom, SS, Prep.

1) Cluster Arrow (Loaded for Bear)
I found this to be the best single-target DPS. However, to make this work, I needed to take Bat, Vengence and Grenadier (dropping Archery passive). I found this skill the worst when trying to go for fast runs.

2) Multishot (Fire at Will)
To make this work, I took Bat and Vengence. I found multishot cleared the room pretty fast. I tried it without bat and vengence, or just 1 of those skills and I found that it worked better with both. For other multishot DHs, do you use hatred regen gear?

3) Ball Lightning
I only took Vengence and had Rain of Vengence instead of Bat and I found my hatred held up. I found Ball Lightning currently superior for me in that it produced faster runs. RoV was also a nice bonus as it's fun to use. In addition, with Ball Lightning, I found it easier to chain kills (than multishot) - I'm not sure whether it leads to much more exp but it's alot of fun. In particular, with BL, I found it easier to stutterstep forward since the BL is not fast and hits a wide area.

So, do other DHs have similar experience? If not, what did you do to get your particular build to work?

thanks for the advice man, im not too interested in farming, I just want to be able to play the new content.

in terms of getting good dps, is the new nats set actually good enough stats wise, or would it be better to look for similar priced rares/legendaries? I know that good rolls on nats tend to be crazy expensive, but I don't know how much the 7% crit chance + 130 dex set bonus help...

I suppose I should add that I have a 150m~ budget

I worked everything out, and a 3 piece nats set (no helm) with Andarial's Visage gives you the highest dps, and it's economical too. You can sub Andarial's Visage with a Mempo with crit, but that's super expensive. Nats body and nats boots are quite cheap to get a good roll due to them carrying core stats and being less dependent on random properties. Nats ring is expensive as hell to get anything past the base stats.

I recently switched to using Multi shot with the Fire at Will rune after using ball lightning and I don't think I will ever go back. Combined multi shot with the bat pet and vengeance passive and I can litteraly just run around spamming multi-shot full time, crits for 300 + k and clears out A3 inferno so very quickly.

Basically I'm loving multi-shot, and think the 1.0.4 multi shot with fire at will rune is undervalued by a lot of dh's. A thing I found is using Vault so you can quickly get the ring angle or to quickly scoop up a bunch of globes, I think I made my runs 50% faster switching my set up to this.

the DH nerf seems uncalled for.

considering 21% monster dmg nerf and the gloom nerf, Dh now have over 25% less damage reduction compared to before.
I dont know how this is in any way fixing the mentioned binary playstyle.
In fact, it makes it even worse, now the not overgeared DHs still have to go glasscannon and use smokescreenm which is far more binary by their definition of the word.


I dont know what happened, blizzard designers used to think ahead a bit more than this.
Luckily i have other chars i can play, so whatever :p

with multishot i timed an act 3 clear (everything besides stonefort and battlefields) at 25 minutes. if i die a couple times it's 30 minutes.

no hatred regen at all besides the 1.2 that comes with DML.

will test with lightning ball

ok lightning ball is definitely going to be better post patch with players 8. right now it's better in the keeps levels, but in more open terrain i think multishot is still faster, especially with faster groups or stuff that tends to kite you.

how about skills? i have currently 32% crit chance, i tried spray of teeth but it gives less LoH and when i get a devouring arrow pierce crit, it hits for around 300+k
res is about 450 res all, and 550 phys res
dps is around 68k, i hit for around 30k

the marked for death helps increase the amount i get reflected back at me? if i do 12% more dmg to it, do i also get 12 more reflected? im still not sure how reflect works to be honest. ive got about 1k LoH and it helps quite a bit, i use the marked for death life steal but maybe shadow power's would be better?

What act are you farming? If you are farming act 3 or below, your spec is too defensive to farm efficiently. Your next gear upgrade should focus more on dps than defensive stats. As for skills, you could benefit from changing caltrops to bird. Also get rid of sharpshooter since you have high crit chance and ball lightning. To deal with reflect damage, the best answer is gloom. It's pretty much a hard counter. It also works better than SS imo since there's no downtime, so you are invincible the entire way through.

Yes i meant the bat thing, sorry.

For sharpshooter, if you have no bonus crit at all, then it will give you roughly 11% crit chance. You can compare it to how Archery gives 10%, so if you are at base crit, it's a little better than standard, and once you get more crit, then it becomes weaker. One of the main reasons for sharpshooter is for burst skills like cluster arrow. Having 100% crit over one second for cluster arrow means that elite packs will be chunked down at the very start. This is suboptimal for ball lightning because ball lightning has very low dps at the start, and then increases as there are more of them on the field.

The increased attack speed will do less damage per attack but will have a faster attack animation. It's a playstyle choice - for instance, I prefer the no attack speed for more damage.

i think you almost certainly have to use a big hatred dumper for elites. maybe cluster bombs, because of the insane damage output it can have.

What is the current opinion on Calamity, the 1-handed legendary xbow?

The crit damage, dex, hatred regen, and MfD passive seem really good.

I got 52% crit chance, should I get a 2 socket manticore w dex , or a higher dps 1 socket manticore, DPS calcs show that weapons are identical in damage displayed by .3%.

Thanks for the help you guys are great.

Also wondering if I should just hold out and get a rare w/o elemental dmg, like a 1400 + crit dmg socket bow.

definitely very good but 1h bows have two problems
1. generally much more expensive compared to an equivalent dps 2h xbow setup
2. the really fast attack speed makes it slightly more difficult to kite and also makes your hatred spender less efficient

tbh, i have no clue why theres even a market for 1h xbows that justifies their cost.. i dont know a single dh that uses them, i wonder who the hell is buying them other than rich dh that wanna mess with new setup

So I mostly farm in groups. Before I ran with Hungering (Spray of Teeth) + Cluster when I was at 68k-78k dps, but after getting some upgrades and getting my dps up to 80k+, I switched it for Hungering (Devouring) + Multi-shot I think it is much better. I can only imagine it'll get even better as you get more and more dps (basically when you start to overgear the act, ie. 1-2 shot whites).
