I think you'll have alot more success if you switch out Multishot with Cluster Arrow - Loaded for Bear (90% more weapon damage than multishot + grenades), and Rain of Vengance with Smoke Screen.

I also use Evasive Fire - Covering, which is an awesome skill. No projectile, instant dmg, on 3 targets, fuck yeah. (May take a bit of getting used to, because of the occasional backflip.)

First you tell me to dump my survivability gear for more damage, now you tell me to switch my damage-skills to survivability skills? I don't know about that, doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I really want to be able to get through without Smoke Screen, because for most of the time it's a wasted skill slot, I'd rather have all the skills working for me during a battle.

I'll try Cluster Arrow, but right now I'm using multishot when there's lots of targets like scorpions in the crater or skeletons in the keep, and devouring arrow for single target DPS. If I stop using multishot it will take me forever to kill groups of white mobs, the AoE of Cluster Arrow is too small, and with Shatter Shot or Covering Fire I only hit three at once. Also I was considering buying a cold damage SoJ and using the Cull of the Weak passive, works best with multishot.

You originally had an OBSCENE amount of survivabilty, probably more than most run with in HC even. So yeah, dumping some of it will yield you alot faster runs.

Smoke screen will help you vs Jailer AND reflect DMG, and also makes you able to run by mobs unharmed if you are trapped in walls or cornered. Most people use SS and Shadow Power - Gloom, but I'm running with only SS atm. Considering dropping Caltrops and getting SP - Gloom, but not quite sure yet.

Never used Multishot myself, but considering how many use Cluster Arrow instead, I'd assume Cluster is better overall. It works perfectly on the scorpions too, as even the grenades it unleashes kills them. So yeah, the AOE isnt just the impact site, but also where the grenades hit afterwards.

when you have low dps (below 100k without aspd), you don't want multishot etc or at least you don't want to be without a heavy hitter to take out elites fast. when you get higher dps you can switch out the cluster arrow for something more spammy.

What I've found about skills:

Using SS + Gloom and DPS focused gear will make your runs faster overall than having any damage skills. Vault is also a good option especially if you have a lot of disc, but seeing as its getting nerfed I wouldn't rely on it or anything.

Left click obviously hungering - you can use spray of teeth at 40+ cc if you wanna use a smaller aoe skill (cluster arrow) on your right click. Spray of teeth may be just better all around as your cc gets higher, else devouring.

Right click - you have a few options. If you're using a crossbow and don't have 100k+ dps, or you're playing in a party, cluster is probably your best bet. Using sharpshooter is probably a good option before you have high cc if you are using cluster arrow especially - guaranteed crit on every first cluster arrow will help you kill stuff much faster. If you're <100k dps with a bow, I would use ball lightning - much better consistent damage output in my experience. If you get into higher dps range (100k+) you have more of a problem killing white mobs fast in solo than killing elites - in which case I use multishot solo. Multishot gets better the stronger your char is because it kills large amounts of enemies with instant projectile.

with high crit dmg and crit chance multishot clears whole screens when it crits. if you get a quiver with +multishot crit, soj with +multishot crit, then that % chance may rise into the 60ish range and that's just ridiculous.

fire at will. it becomes a wider angle lightning ball with that rune but with better room clearing speed because of the instant projectile. your experience may vary though.

btw they are reducing gloom's dmg mitigation to 35% from 65%, so you take 65% dmg instead of 35% dmg, an 85% increase!

the duration is increased to 5 seconds from 3, but given that they are probably nerfing inferno damage by only 25%, we see gloom's defensive power decline by 40% (140% dmg taken compared to before)

what this means is that you just got nerfed again, unless you become a master turret defense hunter and drop down turrets everywhere.

Hey guys, could any one offer some insight into what I should do with my dh? I'd really like to get some efficient A3 runs going, but i'm just not strong enough to keep from constantly dying. My a2 runs are fast, but not very lucrative. Thanks!

this nerf to gloom is far out of line despite the similar numerical reduction compared to energy armor etc. gloom is an independent mod that mods that whole damage, while the other defensive skills buff existing defense parameters that have less efficiency. a 30% decrease in your armor rating does not result in 86% more damage taken. a cut from 65% mitigation to 35% does.

anyway, if you have a lot of ehp already, you will receive a great buff from the 40% more duration. if you are a glass cannon, get more defense. rich get richer etc.

conclusion: play barb. player 8 means they can stack more damage and avoid the run out of fury if killing too fast problem. it's like jay wilson is doing the patching.

no bat or vengeance, and i have it up pretty much when i need it because of the hatred regen from DML. the dps from multishot is low and it is not intended to be used to burst down elite packs. you can use HA for that. when 1.0.5. hits you'd probably need both cluster arrow and a clearing skill, and by that time i think ball lightning would fare better than multishot because of its ability to take down elites.

The gloom change doesn't seem to be that bad. It's a 40% nerf for 3 seconds but around a 20% buff for 5 seconds. The additional 2 seconds lets people pair more skills other than the usual cluster arrow and such with gloom. That said, I agree that barbarians will benefit the most from the players 8 option. Longer lasting monsters will benefit sustained damage rather than burst.

for people relying on gloom to survive a burst of dmg though, maybe mortars/arcane while being trapped, this means they'll face a higher gear check in the form of 40% more ehp required to survive. if you can't survive, you can't take advantage of the 2 seconds longer duration.

So... I'm a little stuck atm as to what to do with my Demon Hunter...

I'm decently geared, but with the upcoming patch survivability changes I'm very tempted to do away with my legacy nat set while it's still in demand. Between the impending cinders nerf and overall mob damage nerf in inferno, I feel that now is a good time to reassess my character build...

What I currently have:

I was actually thinking something along the lines of: keep 2-piece legacy, acquire 2-piece new Natalya's and stack +14% crit chance (from two +7% crit chance bonuses). My helm and boots kinda suck, so I'd consider switching those to the new set for a nice buff.

Also considering:
Switching all four pieces to new set but tbh I don't really like the new set bonus of +20 disc. But without the regen and +disc gear, this may be the best route...

And as for rings: I have the one equipped for MF, but also have a stone of Jordan with +20% vs elites bonus and like +8 disc... Further, have a litany set ring with same stats as my current ring (~160 dex / 4.5% crit chance) which I was thinking might be useful since +7% reduced elite damage and +60 res all should be pretty strong if I'm not spamming gloom anymore. I only can keep one, and plan on selling the other two... Which of these would be best to keep? Tbh, I have no idea


I know that's a lot to go through, but what are your thoughts? I'm not quite sure what to do with the upcoming changes, but I'm inclined to move away from disc-heavy builds as those look like they're going to go away post-patch...
