There have been a number of threads discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the Razer TSL such as this recent thread. In order to attain the highest quality in any future projects we would like to create a single thread dedicated to TSL review - hence this thread. The staff have a few questions which we would be delighted if you could take the time to answer truthfully, and brutally.
What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
Did you use TSLD at all?
Rank your top three commentary teams
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?
|
Feature liked most?
Lots - but if I were to choose only one, it would be the additional displays of information (mineral/gas/supply mined).
Need improvement?
I would prefer that the person controlling the "camera" followed the central action more closely, and during more calm times show us a bit about each player's bases - show how much they're mining and their tech/production building development.
The Razer TSL Site?
Functional, but very thin - and almost everything led back to teamliquid proper, so not much purpose?
TSLD?
Nope.
Top commentary teams?
Chill/Artosis
Iconic moment?
The tremendous probe kills by JF's reaver (in game 4 of the finals, IIRC).

1. Prizes/Quality/Players I don't know how to put it but the combination of high quality, professionalism and high level players is a winner. 2. 10K is a really big prize pool, but if you guys can improve that and keep the level of quality this league has shown then everything else will fall in place. 3. I didn't use the razer site much because I love TL and I get all my SC needs here, some VODs I watched on youtube but that is just me (it's simpler for my broadband internet and slow comp) 4. No 5. Though one to call, I love Chill because he is zerg and I'm biased. Artosis is pretty good too 6. Dreiven beating Mondragon, goddamn BQQs are powerful, the way nicknames are born from commentaries or interviews are simply things to remember in the future. Whenever I see some of these players playing in the future I'll inmediatly refer to their nicknames, i.e Cookie Monster
Comment - Amazing job guys, couldn't have done better on a first try. Razer should be proud of this league - it's like wine: it will get even better as time passes by - I'll definately will be buying some of their products once I buy a new comp.
Cheers to the TL Team

Feasibly, no, it was as good as it could have possibly been.
Unfeasibly, I would suggest something out of the box thats not completely necessary, like a live audio interview with winners in their respective rounds (maybe just ro32 and onward).
Its very sad, going back and watching proleague, I keep imagining Chill's/Artosis's voice coming out of my speakers :/
Anyway good luck with TSL2 I know you won't let us down <3
edit: sorry I did not follow procedure, I just wanted to toss in my two bits ^^

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?I loved the artwork and the player profiles. I also liked the time the games were cast because I could actually watch them at that time of day. What areas needed improvement in the tournament?Every time I watched the cast and saw the intro, I kept saying to myself that some were missing. I wish next time all players in the ro16 could be in the intro video. What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?I never really used the website and watched the stream on vlc instead because using razer meant that I had to watch windows media player in full screen and that does not allow me to access other internet windows easily. Did you use TSLD at all?No, but it's a great feature and I'm sure it will get better as players get more stats. Rank your top three commentary teamsChill/Artosis Chill/Artosis/Vaul (sorry I can't remember completely but it's the one with vaul) Chill/Artosis/Manifesto What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)The Ambition hype, that nearly killed me. And of course voting JF as the champion of TSL and watching him come back from a 0-2. And of course the probe intro lol. Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?
Oh ya, I really like that list you guys had of the top 100 players during the ladder stage.
Thank you very much.
|
1. I thing the artwork really added to it a lot, it seemed like it made it much more professional, and the extra info during the commentary games like mines and gas, it made it seem korea like
2. This is a harder question to answer because it seems like you guys made everything so perfect. I suppose a live stream would be pretty good?
3. A few times.
4. No :[
5. Artosis and Chill FTW!
6. JF's gosu comeback!

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
If I must choose only one, then I must choose the commentators.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
The various audio issues that popped up. As in the volume level of the video in the very first broadcast and Day's volume the first time he casted with Artosis. These were very minor issues, though.
The only other thing I can think of is that the commentators should probably conceal the replay bar for themselves somehow. I don't know who amongst them does or does not already do this, but I do know that Day said at one point that he thought he already knew the outcome of a match between Draco and Nony because of the length of the replay bars remainder - I think this could possibly effect casting a bit, as any seasoned player or watcher can usually tell when a game is coming to a close based on the replays length and the player with the current lead/surprising strategy in the game. Pessimistic or overly optimistic views that may not have been related without such knowledge may influence a casters words.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
I liked it. I used it to watch every broadcast but one, and seeing as I like statistics/looking at the history of things, I enjoyed the results pages. I do admit to only browsing it once or twice outside of watching the streams, however, as there was not much overall content not already derived from the streams and it is simpler to browse the TSL forums from TL itself.
Did you use TSLD at all?
See the above statistic enjoyment for the obvious conclusion. :p
Rank your top three commentary teams
Artosis and Chill Artosis and Day
I did not get the opportunity to hear Yannis or Vaul, and though I liked what I heard from Mani, I didn't hear enough to really be a judge for a third team.
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)
Definitely the finals. + Show Spoiler [Results] +I was personally cheering for JF, and I thought it was going to be over in three after Draco went 2-0. All five games were highly enjoyable, and to have amazing reaver play win JF all three of his games in a row was a "OMG YES" moment.
If I could choose a second and third, second would be the probe intro for the first time and the third would be "DOWN"
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?
Everyone who was involved in it's creation, running, and shine is awesome. Thanks for bringing the foreign scene excitement the likes of which had not been seen.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? Its hard to really pinpoint one thing that I liked about TSL, since everything complemented each other. If I were to say one thing, its that the players and competition were definitely a huge part of it.
For instance, Mondi was the #1 and crowd favorite. I was rooting for the underdogs, and thus rooting against him. However, he does bring excitement with him; lots of players tune in just to see him play. DinoT and Rondo brought a style of play that I didnt expect from such unknowns - it was highly entertaining.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? More coverage, maybe. For instance, broadcast the qualifiers (R1 and R2), or at least some of them. In an earlier post, I mentioned how I loved the ro16, and my excitement slowly dwindled from there. I think it was the variety of players and matchups that kept my interest. Then again, one could argue that there can be too much of a good thing.
Speaking of coverage, there were spikes of activity in the TSL forum. For most of the actual TSL, activity was mostly on game days. Then for the rest of the week, things were quiet. It wouldve been nice if more things were happening throughout the week, especially leading up to the semi-finals and the grand final. I made the thread "Hype Machine" because I felt it was too quiet days before the end of such an event. Cheerfuls was definitely a step in the right direction. Maybe hold more mini-games and contests?
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? I didnt really go there much at all. Only times I did were when the link was in the teal ticker-bar near the top of this homepage. So accessibility is a huge factor, for me at least.
Did you use TSLD at all? Once or twice maybe. I wanted to know what the stats were on so and so, I checked, Im done, since the stats dont drastically change much or affect how the games will go.
Rank your top three commentary teams 1. Chill + Artosis - imo the best combo, and you didnt have to constantly worry about getting the third person's voice in 2. Artosis + Day - beside the sucky mic, day was pretty good 3. Chill + Artosis + Vaul - vaul's voice = sex. he didnt have the insight and analysis that the others provided, but still
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) Two: Upset over Mondi, and Nony losing all those shuttles and reavers
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? Nothing in mind atm, but I might come back and edit stuff in. - sound checks. before everything goes live, normalize the volume so that its more of less the same loudness. its little things that can make or break the experience. this was only an issue in the beginning, and like once or twice near the end of the season. - commercial breaks? not to advertise items (although our sponsors probably wouldnt mind), but to showcase community contributions such as cheerfuls, songs, artwork, etc - interviews. i liked them. should do more.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
Quality of games and artwork were really impressive. Plus, not having to wait 15-20 minute between each game like for Starleagues was an added bonus.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
Vaul and Chill lag. On a more serious note, it's really hard to find any faults.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
Nicely made, could add a few more things to it. No, I did not use it much.
Did you use TSLD at all?
Yes, being able to TSLDize all the players is pretty neat. Once TSL's been running more and more seasons, the TSLD will only get better.

What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)
JF's comeback down 0-2. Hero reavers!
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?
The intro wins. No lies.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
The introduction was terrific. It really set the tournament off in the right direction (well, the prize pool sort of did that for the participants, but for the viewers, this sealed the deal.)
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
Little things like the latest plugin on the last day (you get to see how many minerals each player mined in the last minute) really make it fun to watch.
On a side note, I'd like it if it started on time. Also, you might want to consider shuffling the time it plays. I have no problem with it so long as its on the weekend, but it seems a lot of Europeans have been complaining about the Sunday schedule (and no one works on Sunday, so you might be able to start earlier.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
It was terrific. Always updated and a terrific color. Easy scheme too.
Did you use TSLD at all?
YES. I was very impressed with it at first (more surprised actually.) Then I looked at the ELO peak/rating and it didn't exist (right when it came out.) As it got more complete, I began using it more and more.
Rank your top three commentary teams
1.) Day[9] + Chill 2.) Day[9] + Artosis 3.) Chill + Artosis
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)
Definitely the one Artosis made about Brat not expanding until he got his next command center.

Ya, there were several instances where you can hear the commentators wrapping up the match before the viewers can even guess how much longer its going to last.
Easy solution: sticky notes over the replay progress bar

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? prize
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? admin decisions (i wont bring up mine but look at machine vs kwak where u made him replay cuss someone dropped when machine had the game 10000000%)
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? never use it, seen it once and its alright but not needed imo
Did you use TSLD at all? no
Rank your top three commentary teams dunno if you mean top 3 teams which were used or top 3 teams overall... but anyways Artosis / Tasteless Artosis / doesnt rly matter, the rest were just "ok"... I guess Artosis/Chill was best combo.
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) for me it was being kicked out... but outside of that probably the bad decision on machines case... lol but besides that... on a positive note... um... i would say... just JF winning. I don't think many special moves or plays will stick in my mind for very long. Not too many innovative / creative players realy played. just a lot of good / solid players. no offense to n e 1 there, good / solid are the way to go just not extremely entertaining to watch.
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? no because the ones I would say, I would get madly flamed on even though they would help a lot for the next 1, if u have another 1. Edit: oh, very nice Intro though loved it
g'day

The staff have a few questions which we would be delighted if you could take the time to answer truthfully, and brutally. What was the feature you liked most about TSL?Without sounding too cliche, everything. The stream - a few kinks were all that kept this from being perfect. It was lagless, high quality, loaded very fast, and let us all see the amazing TSL. The coverage - The write ups were AMAZING. The hype was unbelievable. The art was godly. The interviews were a look into the gamers we were watching that we don't see so often. They also created a lot of hype with Draco "not practicing" and such. The TSL itself - This is exactly what the foreign Starcraft scene needed. A huge tournament with a huge cash prize and the best of the best playing to win it. Everything was flawless. From the grind up to the top 48, the kicking of hackers and reviewing of replays, and the final matches to decide the winner of the first TSL. What areas needed improvement in the tournament? The only thing I can think of would be a TSL Starcraft server. Iccup is great, and the anti-hack and set up is amazing. But mimicing this so all the matches in the TSL are against the players that are in it would be amazing. The only problem being lack of high level players for the top people to play against. And or a huge skill difference and less people reducing the overall number of games. What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? The website was beautiful. The design was great, the IRC to talk about the games under the stream, the stream itself (see most liked feature), and all of the rules and info right infront of you made it easy to follow along. Did you use TSLD at all?I was aware of it but didn't use it at all because before the games started on the stream all of the players stats were shown in all of their games in the top48. Though i think that in the future with more TSL's it will become used a lot more to look back on map stats and overall stats. This is also a very good feature to see how balanced things are on the foreign level compared to korean. Rank your top three commentary teams1.Artosis & Chill 2.Day9 & Chill 3.Mani & Yannis What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)Being a member of the foreign community for a while, seeing the attempts at this that were good but never right, watching msl and osl so much and wishing we had something outside of korea for us. And then there was the TSL. The hype up to it, the revealing, the entire tournament was perfect. I think the effect this tournament is going to have on the foreign scene of Starcraft and Starcraft 2 in the future will speak for itself. Also, the new faces we saw, such as the hugely dominant TvP king that is BRAT_OK that we will be following for a long time. Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?I'll brokenly quote all the interviews and agree that the tournament was perfect and there isn't a thing that needs changing. Keep up the AMAZING work and I can't wait for TSL 2.0 :D

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? - the commentated games including the video artwork; the fantastic cash pot; the constant & appropriate mention of everyone that helped including other sites and last but not least the R1CH factor (everything ran sooo smooth man, thanks!)
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? - commentators need to realize these vods will be listened in to future by new players and by people who have no clue who artosis, chill, etc.. or even teamliquid is - during the casting they need to introduce themselves, the website, etc.. more often (it makes it more pro/appealing too)
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? - sorry couldn't care less - having said that as I type here I must mention that there is a Razer eXactMat-X-control and a diamondback Razer mouse less than 10 inches from my keyboard : ) i.e. my current mousepad and mouse - so yes, now there is love & years of product loyalty
Did you use TSLD at all? - I had to look it up now to know what it was..
Rank your top three commentary teams - artosis & chill. Artosis = pro, he could easily do this for this for a living. I wish Chill had better delivery but his content is GOLD which made many of us teamliquidians wet ourselves. StarCraft commentating has come a long way since djWHEAT "probie" lol.. Anyway more Mani next one? He was born for radio and when he is not nervous is an awesome commentator. Give him more live practice time and I am 100% sure he will deliver especially with the wider public of StarCraft fans (i.e. the gamers that matter in the long run).
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) - Most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? Hands down Razer putting 10k on a 10 year old game for a group of no more than 1000 hard core fans. They really do mean that they cater to GAMERS first, everybody else, second. & JF pulling a 3-0 after he is down 2 games down to none other than Draco O_O!!
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? - Improve sound quality or check out a-game's feedback coming up which is awesome. * + Show Spoiler +How the Testie stuff was handled was shameful. Posting publicly, without his consent, a private conversation he had with a tournament organizer was really unprofessional. He should not have been banned nor sanctioned for withdrawing from the competition when the league had no such rules or limitations, regardless the fickle nature of his commitment or any of the excuses he might have had. You simply will not see this in professional leagues. A player withdraws from voluntary participation, you simply replace him. No need for the drama and battle.boy stuff, or in the very least it shouldn't come from the tournament organizers.
* (in spoiler because I do not what that to be the emphasis of my feedback which is 99% positive)

Feature liked most? Probably the great commentary led by Artosis, and the fact that vods were uploaded very quickly.
Need improvement? If have to say one i'd say i'd like a bo7 final.
The Razer TSL Site? Nice site but I did not used it much.
TSLD? No but now I will.
Top commentary teams? Chill/Artosis Artosis/Day Chill/Day
Iconic moment? JF using reavers
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? Like other have said, it would be nice if the casters did not know the lenght of the games.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? All :p. Interviews are nice, live streams, the artwork is amazing.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? Maybe make some stuff more newbie friendly. I know all data can be found if you dig enough, but some people tuned in later on the event so stuff like "is it bo3 or bo5?", "who won yesterday?", "how do i watch?" came a lot on irc. Maybe some quick image guides. Don't know how to make it more newbie friendly, it worked for me easily, but some people who are new to TL might be a little lost.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? Only for live streaming when i didn't have VLC with me. It's just a matter of bookmarks
Did you use TSLD at all? Nope. But I followed TSL a lot, so i knew results, i know the players, etc.
Rank your top three commentary teams Day + Artosis was very good (after day got his mic fixed) Chill + Artosis Mani + anyone.
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) Silly stuff maybe? The intro going on irc. Some commentator quotes, the cheerfuls! (those were another good thing)
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? Nope.

On June 05 2008 11:24 Plexa wrote:What was the feature you liked most about TSL?Involvement of the community. Starcraft is a lot more fun when enjoyed with others. I can't watch proleague matches live, so I usually end up watching them alone on youtube. The english commentary + reading the comments in the irc channel made the games much more exciting, enjoyable, and educational. The cheerfuls and hype threads also made the experience amazing. I also want to mention that the overlays on the streams are really cool. Especially the total minerals being mined from. If there is any way to have more information being displayed on the overlay, I think it would increase the level of professionalism as well as enhance the experience. What areas needed improvement in the tournament? It would be nice to have a really professional looking bracket like the ones they have on the nba/nfl/ncaa websites for the earlier parts of the tournament as well. It is annoying to have to scroll through one and a half pages of text to see all of matches during the earlier rounds. For those of us who couldn't put in the time to actually play during the ladder stage, it would have been nice to have some sort of mini-contests to help pass the time and keep interests piqued. One idea might be to have more of the weekend tournaments (we love you Raelcun!) and have them casted by other members of the community. This might be a good way to discover new talented shoutcasters. Of course, I don't know how complicated the casting setup is, so the costs may outweight the benefits on this one. What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?I looked at it for the second time just now. It's a great site, but I'm just used to using TL and all the info on that website is already on TLnet, so there is no need for me to visit it. Did you use TSLD at all?No, although I think as more seasons of TSLD go on, I would be more inclined to use it. Rank your top three commentary teamsArtosis/Chill combination is amazing. Any other ranking would be pretty arbitrary because I didn't hear enough of the others to make a call either way. What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)JF's inspiring reaver play! Every VOD I've ever seen of him with reavers (Ascension anyone?) has been jaw-dropping. Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?Excellent work so far by everyone. I'm really looking forward to season 2. I've been inspired to train this summer and hopefully place decent in the ladder stage! Thanks to the staff for all their hard work, thanks to the players for several amazing games, and thanks to the community for making TSL completely awesome!

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? Simply the games and coverage.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? Cameraman needs to catch all the action, lag boxes and that incident where one of the commentators dropped made it look a little unprofessional.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? I didn't use much at all, only to watch games. Did you use TSLD at all? None. Rank your top three commentary teams Artosis/Chill Chill/Day[9] Pretty much it. What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) The rise and fall of Brat_OK. What an amazing player. Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? For extra maybe, FPVODS / HD VODS. Highlights reels before semi-finals or finals..MSL-like hype.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? The dedication in all aspects of the tournament really impressed me and I feel that the entire TSL as a whole was excellent and it's impossible to single out one feature as better than the others for me. Everyone who worked on TSL did a fantastic job! I think all of the viewers appreciated it immensely.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? I really did not notice too many areas needed to be improved upon. As I was watching, everything was just totally perfect. The only thing I feel occurred a bit too often is just technical difficulties, but they all were able to solve themselves in the end (audio issues, lagging during finals, stream shutting down). Of course lots of these have no warning in advance so overall the situations were handled very well.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? I used it a bit other than the streaming, but there wasn't too much to do there, especially as most of the links redirected back to teamliquid. It is a cool addition though with the information about the tournament and stuff, although not very necessary.
Did you use TSLD at all? Yes, I used TSLD occasionally to check the stats of my favorite players (of course, the data sample is kind of small at this point in time)
Rank your top three commentary teams 1. Chill / Artosis 2. Artosis / Day 3. Chill / Day
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) Ahh... how can I choose?! Everything! Being the first of its kind, the hype leading up to the announcement... and then of course the games! The comeback by JF and his $3,000 reavers, the commentators awesome quotes... the upsets, drama, DOWN DOWN DOWN... just totally amazing.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
- The lagless video stream, with the great english commentating and the graphic overlay that showed things like supply and player color etc. The stream is probably the most important part of a tournament.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
- The stream wasn't actually live. I found myself being less interested and watching less of the stream knowing that it was basically a VOD anyways.
- The audio wasn't in sync with the video feed. While not a huge deal it was still strange having the audio tell you what was going to happen before it actually happened on the video. It almost defeated the purpose of watching the video at all.
- Too many protoss players in the final bracket. I think this could be partially solved by map choice, taking greater care to pick maps that won't favour protoss in order to counter the high ratio of protoss players in the foreign community.
- Chinese players! Somehow we need to fix the lag problem so that we can have them in the next tourney, I think the high skill of chinese players adds credibility to the tournament and adds incentive to the other participants to play against the best and all in all just makes the trophy glitter that much more. Also Chinese players have some pretty powerful non-protoss players so their inclusion helps balance out the protoss-heavy contingent from the rest of the world.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
- I thought it was great, professionally made and very stylish. I definitely used it. It was well organized and easy to use.
Did you use TSLD at all?
- Unfortunately no, with the foreign players being rather amateurish I never felt the need to look up map or race statistics seeing as foreign play is pretty much a crap shoot as far as I'm concerned. Maybe I will find a need for such information in the next season. Either way I think it's great to have TSLD.
Rank your top three commentary teams

What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)
- Honestly just tuning into the stream for the first time, with the professional introduction probe and the graphical overlay and the high quality english commentary, the $10k prize, all of that flooding before your eyes and then thinking to yourself "our little teamliquid did all this???". It's a huge accomplishment that I don't think I ever thought could've happened.
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?
- I think I've addressed all the areas I see potential improvement could be wrought, so I just have to say that this tournament has left me flabbergasted. I didn't know volunteers, let alone volunteers so close to home, could pull off such a sleek operation for no material rewards. I think the entire foreign community just feels like a spoiled little brat that's been given a gigantic chocolate cake and we're all rather ashamed because we've done nothing to deserve such riches. Nonetheless we shall certainly eat and enjoy the experience while it lasts! It's all just too much to comprehend really!

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
I loved the intro, I thought it was very professionally done and really felt appropriate for a Starcraft league.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
My only real problem were those few instances were the stream died. It always seemed to happen at a point where the hype was really starting to build up. If you guys can eliminate those problems it will be a much better experience overall.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
I used it to get to TSLD a couple of times, since there was no link (at least that I could see) on the front page. I was using the embedded stream at first as well but then switched over to GOM player since it made it easier to browse/chat while watching.
Did you use TSLD at all?
Yes! It was very helpful when trying to decide who to pick for liquidbet. As more games get added its usefulness will only grow, so I imagine it will be immensely helpful in the future. Good job on this one!
Rank your top three commentary teams
I don't think any commentary team came close to the duo of Artosis and Chill. If I had to add two more they would be the Artosis/Day9 team (if he fixes his mic problems then they could be great as well) and the Artosis/Chill/Manifesto trio.
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)
Game 4 of the Finals. I was rooting for JF and when he pulled off those reaver drops on the main I was cheering at the top of my lungs. My neighbors thought I was nuts!
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?
Overall you guys did a fantastic job with all of this. I will definitely be looking forward to Season 2!

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? All the energy put into this tournament and quick uploads to youtube.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? Can't think of any. It's close to perfection.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? It looks pretty cool, but I didn't use it much. However, I have a good impression of Razer now because of their commitment to sponsoring this TSL.
Did you use TSLD at all? Nope.
Rank your top three commentary teams Just Chill/Artosis. No other teams stood out.
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) JF beating Draco 3-2 with reavers when he was down 0-2. Brat_OK beating Dreiven 3-0.
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? I hope there are many more TSLs in the future!

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? The games being broadcast, really. It seems simple, but the way it emulated the Korean professional broadcasts was great. The admins did a great job running the league and handling the various situations that came up, especially that which involved MisterZ. Games were always on schedule.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? Commentary teams need to act more like commentary teams, rather than just two analysts taking turns talking about the game. Even the best team (Artosis/Chill) was guilty of this. Also, no one should ever be casting a game when they're lagging to a point that it impedes the broadcast (Vaul), or with a microphone that provides poor quality speech (Day). The mic problem was particularly bad; it seems very unprofessional to an outsider when you can't even understand one of the commentators half of the time.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? Didn't use it much at all, no particularly valuable information that couldn't be found on teamliquid.net and the brackets there were ugly.
Did you use TSLD at all? Rarely, and I thought it was under promoted.
Rank your top three commentary teams 1. Artosis, Chill 2. Artosis, Day None of the others really compare. Day was pretty good once he finally got his microphone fixed but his tendency to interrupt Artosis with his exclamations was not cool. Artosis and Chill were easily the best duo and I found myself wishing they had casted all of the games. What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) Jianfei's 0-2 comeback in the finals obviously, but for a singular moment, it'd probably be Dinot's slow overlord drop versus Jianfei in the quarter finals.
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? It was amazingly cool to see this happen, and I really hope you guys are able to procure the funds needed to continue with it.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
Definitely IRC for me, just having someone to converse with makes the game all the more interesting
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? The stream , of course, but with over (what was it 1000 viewers at one point?) I'm not surprised it keep falling at some times.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
It was great. Yes i did Did you use TSLD at all?
Yes, but only in the latter stages of the game

I haven't a clue what their names are xD However, I'd like to thank all of them, they did everything short of strip naked ; to try and keep us entertained
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) + Show Spoiler + When Drevien 3-0'd mondragon LOL
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?
Thanks to each and every one of the TSL staff and admins, we couldn't have had this coverage of excitement without you guys. May TSL 2.0 be the just the same, or even better! Heres to the future.

I think the points in the TSL elo shouldn't degrade so fast because players have much less opportunity to earn points than in most situations where you'd use elo.
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL?
It's show time! and the rest of the rise against intro video.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? The very simple: having foreigners play in a starleague. Sure, Koreans are better players but I can connect more to the foreigners, especially the foreign terrans and the americans (as I'm an american). I'm half hungarian but there weren't much hungarians to really cheer for so i didn't have that opportunity... It's the sense of having "our" event as opposed to being on the outside looking in at the koreans. Without TSL, foreigner SC is like not being let into the party that everyone wants into, but only the "cool kids" can go to. We're stuck outside the door and we can hear the music and wish we were there but not much else. TSL changes that completely.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? Minor gripe: make the ingame sound a little louder. either make the ingame music louder or quieter. if it's louder i can actually sort of hear it / it adds to the tension. if it's gone i can put on my own music. if i only get this very muted but still there thing i can't put on music that i want to listen to during it and it doesn't add anything either. it just plain sucks.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? Nah, the stream there didn't work at first and the place was slow so I just gave up on it and kept using gomplayer.
Did you use TSLD at all? Yes, actually. I will probably use it more in the future though with more TSLs.
Rank your top three commentary teams 1. artosis + chill 2. chill and artosis 3. artosis & chill
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) I'm not sure so i'll list a few: - JF drops reaver and kills a few probes on zodiac and then fires a second scarab and it just rapes like 25092509302 probes and Chill says "oh my god OH MY GOD" - IdrA losing. I want to see IdrA win TSL2 - Brat losing, he's my backup after idra. - SCT-HorroR in the earlier (not commentated) stages with his wraith TvZ on blue storm
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? What happened about the really vague talk about ESPN early on? anyway, I love TSL, and I love all the players, even the dirty protosses.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? Video Coverage, Interviews
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? Live video coverage would be even more exciting, but replays were not bad, i think despite the missing gg in the end, many people didn't even notice the difference. The few minor technical problems that occured should be fixed, but compared to the length of the cast, it was running very well. So all in all i don't really need improvements, i liked it very much.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? No, i found everything on teamliquid.net
Did you use TSLD at all? no sorry
Rank your top three commentary teams Chill/Artosis Chill/Day9 was there an Artosis/Day9 combo? i would like that as well.
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) Mondragon out in ro16. Brat_OKs performance JFs comeback from 0-2
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? Thank you Team Liquid and Razer.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? I enjoyed the games every weekend. It's one of those things that gives one something to look forward to seeing. It helped make the week go by faster as well.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? I think it'd be great if Chinese players were somehow able to be included, though unfortuntely, it seems the lag is not really able to be overcome =/. I think it'd add to the quality of the games and thus the excitement. Other than that and the occasional technical difficulty, I loved everything.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? To be honest, I didn't think there was anything worthwhile there that wasn't on TL =/ I only used it to get the VLC link at 4:30 every week as I don't like the embedded WMP...
Did you use TSLD at all? No, but I might in the future to track down vods, stats.
Rank your top three commentary teams 1.) Artosis Chill. They had time to get used to each other and developed really good chemistry. Great duo. 2.) Chill/Day9 Excellent quality of analysis, but some things weren't quite as good with this team. This probably could've been worked out with more time together and with time to gain some chemistry. 3.) The one with Vaul. I liked it, but it's a bit too bad Vaul's lag is too bad =/
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) JF's comeback from 0-2 and Dreiven showing Mondragon to have human ZvP... (yes, I'm cheating and using two moments :p)
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? Great job guys, and I hope there's a TSL 2!

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? The whole live replay and commentating thing is awesome. Being a live replay has one advantage over live stream in that if there were any technical difficulties, and it happened, you can just pause the replay. Of course had it been a live stream you could also do that but it wouldn't be as good.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? I don't know
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? I only used it to link other people to so they can watch the embedded player.
Did you use TSLD at all? A little bit

What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) IRC spams

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? I loved the 640x480 stream, no lag whatsoever and great quality! Only a few minor hiccups. I also liked being able to download games I missed right away, in the same great quality. All the rep packs were also nice.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? The in game sound is too low. Compare it to the MSL or OSL games. Sometimes the commentators' volumes relative to eachother was too off. Also I appreciate when the commentators raise their voices at exciting moments, but not to the point where there is distortion.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? It was ok, didn't use it much.
Did you use TSLD at all? I did look at the stats for all top 16 players at least once, but besides that no.

What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) Mondi losing DinOt's slow drop Brat_OK's play Finals were exciting
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? Overall everything was done very well and exceeded my expectations.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
Overall organization. Overall effort was quite good.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
Bad speaking habits of the commentators:
They seemed to constantly say Commentator 1: "it's going to be interesting to see if [x]" Commentator 2: "yeah, [y] Also I didn't like that they seemed to get way too excited every time psionic storm was cast. Lastly, they spent a bit too much time describing what was obviously happening on the screen. (e.g., "and now he's bringing his army south a bit....")
The effort level of the commentators was good, I'd just like them to try to avoid the above.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
It looked ok, and I did look at the bracket thing a few times, but other than that I didn't use it much.
Did you use TSLD at all?
No. I hardly knew it existed.

Can't really remember clearly any teams other than Artosis & Chill, and they did a fairly good job.
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)
JF coming back from 0-2.
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?
Maybe see if Klazart could try commentating.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? -video streaming which were absolutely perfect! zero lag, zero buffers, zero connection time, i'd like to say it was better than daum pot player or gom players, which all have so many annoying errors, but tsl streaming had ZERO errors.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? -I really liked the interviews, but I would like to hear the interviews, not read them typed out. -I really did not like the timing of the tournament, as it conflicted with my final exam schedule..I wish it were to happen during the summer, or the winter vacation, or just not during april or december...
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? -I think i used it for watching the videos, other than that, I didn't find it too special, I just used the TSL forum section from TL
Did you use TSLD at all? no..what is this?

What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
You guys should make razer build a stage for the finalists to play and broadcasted over the internet so we can see the players play live like in korea.
you guys should also make something like a liquibet competition for prizes for the spectators.
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
What I liked
- The coverage, especially the streams with commentaries, and the Korea-style mineral/gas ticker for the players.
- The prize money.
- The ladder into tournament concept.
- The commentary competition in the early group stages/ladder.
- The artwork, the intro videos and the pre-game player screens/map overviews. Especially the intro video!
Why I liked it The prize money ensured quality games and gamers, and the coverage delivered those games the the public eye. I really like the concept of ladder to tournament, I believe it's fair. I was incredibly impressed with the technical quality of the streams, flawless 98% of the time, not a hitch to be detected. The casting times were excellent (I'm in Norway). And the commentators, of course!
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
- Commentary quality.
- The coverage, streams/commentaries aside.
Far be it from me to suggest that the quality of the commentary was low. Because it wasn't. It was very good. But the problem was that it was more RWA-ish than sports game-ish. This issue has been pointed out before. I want more excitement. More raised voices. More heated debates between the commentators interrupted by deadly reaver drops, tank pushes or crackling assaults which settles the argument one way or another. All of this was pointed out by never_toss in this thread, and I agree 100% with him. Also it would be nice to avoid the contant pointing out of the obvious (i.e. what's happening on the screen).
The coverage aside from the streams etc was nice, but compared to the VODs they were kinda meh. Especially the interviews. Nice, but... *shrug* Sorry
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
I made a point out of going there frequently, not because I had to (because all I needed was the timer on TL.net), but because I wanted to contribute to the hits. I didn't use it for anything, except the one time I streamed via browser. The brackets there were really confusing and finding information about the current/overall status of the tournament could be nigh impossible for anyone not familiar with TL.net procedure.
No. I don't post on the forums much, and I don't Liquibet or Gosubet. All the statistics I needed were put in front of me pre-game.
Rank your top three commentary teams I liked Artosis and Chill for their insight and humor. I think I heard Day there once? He was really good on the insight-part. Manifesto's voice was, well, manly. I can't really remember anyone else... I remember the voices but not their nicks. If I could choose, I'd choose Artosis/Chill if they work on the emotional side of commentating. But I also feel it's kind of unfair, because they contributed sooooo much and got very little in return. They did a fantastic job!!! But I want more.
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)
When I realized JF was winning game 3 and somehow understood this meant that everything was changing. I can't remember the map, but I have an image of JF breaking into the walled natural of Draco with goons and reavers as it was made of cardboard. Don't know if that was game 3, but that was it.
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?
Ideas:
- More behind the scenes
- First person VODs (with commentaries, drool) if at all possible.
- Group seeds and group pickings a la OSL
- PLEASE MAKE TSL2 SOON!!!
Final words: It's an online tournament and it's nothing short of utterly amazing how well the tournament was run all in all. A few hiccups sure, some drama, but hey, that's life. You guys did a fantastic job. Thank you for giving us such a gift.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? The media and artwork. Made it look really professional, without it, this tournament would have been alot less professional looking.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
Commentaries, still, the single best matchup of the entire TSL was Draco vs Nony, simply beacuse the commentators were just on top of things, Day and Artosis delivered alot of emotions and insight during these matches that made them even more entertaining to watch
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
It was good, but it didnt really offer that much that wasnt already on tl.net
Did you use TSLD at all? once or twice to check stats.

What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) Edit: Actually Idra getting stomped by White_Ra, i did not see that coming. Quite chocked how easy he won those games.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
I felt the qualifying stages were really fun. Since everyone could participate, including bad players like me, it made me feel like I was part of the tournament as well, even though I ofcourse knew I had no chance of ever actually making it.
The best part for me however were the casts every saturday and sunday. The quality of them was excellent and when one of the players I was rooting for was playing I found myself cheering for them out loud at times (JF, ret and Brat).
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
Small things. The delay at the start a lot of the time. I know it is hard to fix, but when something is supposed to start at 10 (CET) and I put in effort to be home then only to find out that it has been delayed for 10-20 minutes is annoying.
Ofcourse the crashes, but that is something everyone realizes and I found them not really annoying.
Some time in between every 3-4 matches (perhaps a commercial from the sponser and stuff) to get something to drink, some chips, go to the bathroom etc. Especially early in the tournament when a lot of matches were played I found myself watching starcraft from 10 (CET) till perhaps 2 in the morning without any real pauses in them.
Chinese players. It don't know if it possible, but I think they can take the level of play in the tournament to a new level.
More coverage on the TSL on diffirent multigaming websites to get more viewers. I can't remember I read anything about the TSL on sites likes SKgaming.com that follow a lot of diffirent esports (perhaps I missed it?). If you could reach out to them and get them involved I feel this could get a lot bigger.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
I used it to watch the stream, but for nothing else. Everything else could be found on the teamliquid site anyway.
Did you use TSLD at all?
Yes, but mostly just to see how well it was made. Perhaps this was because I had been following the tournament from the beginning and vods were released. I use TLPD mostly when I am unsure of a liquibet or to watch youtube vods on certain matches.
Rank your top three commentary teams
Chill/Artosis Day[9]/Artosis Chill/Day[9]
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)
The final, without a doubt. JF had to get me my mousepad and he did.
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?
Besides all the obvious like how you did a great job, can't wait for season 2 etc. I believe one of the great things in tournaments is always the group selection. I don't even know how you would organize such a thing, but looking at what you did already a group selection might also be possible. This would create some more e-drama (of which we can't have enough!), proffesionalism and would just be huge fun.
|
What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
- Definitely the stream. It didn't crash, there was no lag at all and it was done so professionally.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
- I found the abrupt ending to be really weird. When the final games were over I was expecting some deep analysis of the games, probably a video with the best scenes of the TSL so far and a live audio interview with the winner would have been great as well.
- The qualifying stage deserved a video stream as well. Obviously you can't cast all of the games, but I would have loved to see some of them. The audiostream just didn't do it.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
- I used it, but only occasionally. As a regular visitor of tl.net, that site was kinda useless for me. It deserves to exist tho, because non-tlneters have all they need at one place.
Did you use TSLD at all?
- I did, once. I checked the pvp stats of JF and Draco to see if JF also statistically was a PvP monster. I guess I'm pretty much the only one who did so, tho.
Rank your top three commentary teams
1. Chill & Artosis (amazing team) 2. Artosis & Manifesto7 (I'm not sure if this combo ever commentated, but I enjoyed Artosis so much and was heavily impressed with Mani's knowledge. I thought he was a newbie before :D) 3. Artosis & Day[9] (his mic killed his performance. He's such a great player and I'm sure if the audio quality wasn't that bad, he would have been a huge benefit to the commentating. Give him another chance plz)
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)
Do I have to name one?
- When I first saw that beautiful probe doing it's job I felt all warm and fuzzy inside. In that moment, I knew this was going to be a huge thing. I was actually feeling proud, because I've been a long time member of this site and it got so far as to hosting it's own professionally done starleague.
- JF's comeback was sooo orgasmic. Before the ro16 I was having an argument with a friend of mine. He said Draco was going to win this, while I was absolutely sure of JF taking it. It was funny when those two actually met in the finals. When JF was down 0-2, I thought that friend wouldn't stop rubbing the 0-3 in my face for the next 2 weeks, but then... what a comeback!
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?
I'd just like to thank all you guys for your effort. Especially the first few days must have been pretty tough. I'm thinking about the hacking incidents, mistrzzz etc. You handled those situations really well.

Feature I like the most about the TSL: - Brilliant art and presentation. Really did a good job with that stuff, making it look very professional and clean. Honorable mention to the cool OSL-like resources tracker during the in-game commentary.
Area's Needing Improvement: - For the commentators, who were overall very good and insightful: Don't be afraid to be critical! Too often it seems like the superlatives are just flowing out of your mouths like crazy, when it's like, "OK yeah, that was good storm drop, but what are the players struggling to do well at the moment?" It's easy for an inexperienced eye to pick out what players are doing well, so they don't have to be stressed repeatedly, but it isn't as easy for them to pick out what they aren't doing well. Maybe since you guys know the players that you're commentating on your don't want to be too critical, almost to the point of going too far on the opposite end of the spectrum.
- In a perfect world, it would be totally live, not replays, but hey, I'll settle. Plus, with replays we get the nifty resources/population counter. So theres pros and cons, but if it could be 100% live that would be even cooler.
Thoughts about the Razer TSL website (which I did use): - The website looked amazing. Presentation, everything was top notch. Mainly I used the site to check on results and watch games. I don't know if theres anything I can even say that the site could need improvement on.
Did you use TSLD at all? - No, not really. I think it was mostly due to the fact that I didn't know how to get to it through the main TL.net homepage. Like there's a side tab that I could click on to get to TLPD, but there isn't something that simple to get to the TSLD. Plus the novelty of having a database is when you get more and more data. Being the first season of the tournament, there just wasn't a ton of information to look at. I think after a couple season's worth of games I'll be using the TSLD just as often for foreigners as I use TLPD for Korean pros.
Top 3 Commentating Teams: 1. Chill, Manifesto, and Artosis 2. Chill and Artosis 3. Chill, Chill, and Chill
Iconic Moment: - I hate to say it, but it would have to be either when Idra or NonY lost. Was pulling for the Americans all tournament, and just watching NonY get rolled was painful, but it's what I'll remember this TSL for the most.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? I liked the whole thing, with videostream, comentators and high quality games. Even that u guys put up such a effort to make it work. With these cool inside videos (like the probe) and the programs in the stream showing minerals etc. Then i really must say i like how the group stage work..
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? The top 16 brackets is little unfair in my opinion. I think it worked well but think it is unfair for some of the players that are out in the beginning of the bracket. I have an ide how to do it little more fair. I would like 2 have a second group stage like the first one with 4 groups for the top 16. Maybe it will be little more fair and then in end just have top 8 battle it out for the money. They will play atleast on more game deciding if they will stay or not.
I also read another guy who had made a post here who talked about the Chinese guys. I heard that pretty late that u banned all these guys. I think it would have been nice to have them in the next tsl since they are so good and can make some awesome games.
The only map i really liked this season was blue storm. The other maps was little to much protoss favoured. Witch i think is pretty clear when like nearly all people in the end was protoss.
Would also be cool if u next season maybe talked with the sponsor to get atleast the top 4 to some location where the final games was casted. With showing apm and showing and talking to them live little like wcg. And making a little longer final cast.
One thing i dident like about the cast was that after the games they suddenly stopped talk about the game or the cast was suddenly over. I would have like to see some talk about why one gamer one it or what the commentators think about the upcoming match the gamer will play. And talk some after the game also.
Another thing i think the commentators missed pretty often was to talk about the upgrades.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? Yeah i used the page to look up stuffs fast. The things i missed on the page now was info about the top 16. Would like the infor their that was on the cast. Like little of their statics and about their performance and so on.
Did you use TSLD at all? Dont even know what TSLD is.
Rank your top three commentary teams 1: Chill & Artosis 2: Chill & Day 3: Artosis & Day
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) The thing i probebly will remember after a couple of years is the stream and the price money part. Since it was the first really big tournament outside korea. I will also remember the pretty unknown brat_ok starting to make his name public. Totally raping in t-p Dreiven totaly raping in p-z JF 0-2 => 3-2 win (Specially liked game 4)
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? I think i have addressed it all. Thx for a great tournament and i would also like to thank everybody who have made this tour possible.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? The commentating. Chill and Artosis were awesome beyond anything I would have imagined. The perfect commentary for me.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? No +m during the TSL intro on IRC. Seriously, the spamming was funny as hell, why block that? Let people spam during the intro, kick everyone who spams after/before the intro. The only other thing was that it wasn't live. And that observers and commentators looked at different areas of the map was kind of annoying.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? Skipped over it. Never used it really though.

Almost agree with everything you said.
Feature I liked the most? The way everything was packaged. The Artwork and coverage was out of this world.
I would like to see better flow next time, i.e. no network/technical difficulty problems and telecast interviews.
TSL website was pretty thin.
TSLD? Yes, I used it a few times to watch a few matches I missed.
Commentary Teams?
Artosis and Chill (good chemistry and different voices)
Artosis and Day[9] (sound too much alike though)
Artosis, Chill and Vaul
Mike volume was a common problem as well.
Iconic Moment? The raping Mondragon received from Dreiven. I knew D was always a monster at PvZ, but he committed manslaughter that night. JF's probe kills was pretty good too. DinOt awesome unorthodox play. Seriously people have to play more like him. He should have stuck to all his unorthodox plays to win.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
The coverage
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
I'd pack the semis, the 3rd/4th and the final in the same weekend.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
I used it a lot. I the forums, there are so many Razer TSL threads that sometimes is difficult to find your answers.
Did you use TSLD at all?
No sorry

Dreiven marching over Mondragon was I N C R E D I B L E !
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?
Hope the next TSL will be like the present edition. I'd like to see the winner playing with some korean PRO

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?Has to be the coverage, awesome with streaming, tbh I couldnt care less if it was live or, I personally wouldnt notice the difference. Also I liked the hype threads, interviews etc What areas needed improvement in the tournament?I feel that its not much that needs improvement, some things that I personally would like alot would be more casting of the ro32 matches, maybe spread them out over more days, if possible, since I really enjoy the tournement, I want to see as many commented games as possible. Also I wouldnt mind some more short breaks between games, I know that commentators talk after game till next starts and that I can take a break then, but I just dont want to miss anything they have to say What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?Website looks good, but I didnt find it all that useful , most of the times stuff got updated on teamliquid.net before the razer site, so I didnt use it that much, saw some streaming on it as well Did you use TSLD at all?Think I was in there once to check some stats of the tsl players, but will probably use it more the next season. Rank your top three commentary teamsArtosis/Chill was the best in my opinion Day/Chill was good as well ^^ What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)Think it was Dreiven 3-0 Mondragon, and JF`s amazing comeback in the final series. I was so sure that it would be a clear 3-0 for Draco, but out of nothing JF pops some reavers and owns it up ^^ Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?
Great tournement, great coverage, I really thank all of you that made this possible! Cant wait till tsl 2, gonna be awesome !

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? The ladder stage which pretty much allowed anyone to play in the TSL. The prizepool of course, the flawless stream and the commentary. Also, this wasn't really a feature but i still loved the #teamliquid IRC channel during every game.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? I honestly can't think of that much to improve on since this is by far the best online Starcraft tournament i have ever seen. Perhaps allow for some more user made content such as the cheerfuls, it really adds to the competition when you see what fans think about their favorite player etc.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? It looked good but i didn't really find any good use for it.
Did you use TSLD at all? Not during the TSL because it was pretty easy to keep track of your favorite players, but if that feature would exist outside of the TSL it would be awesome (although i know that would be time consuming as hell).
Rank your top three commentary teams Artosis/Chill Artosis/Day[9] Artosis/Mani
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) Mondragon not winning the entire thing, i still wake up in a cold sweat screaming my lungs out after countless horrible nightmares of seeing Dreiven eliminating Mondragon. Iefnaij beating Draco 3-2 in the final after losing the first 2 games, i don't think i'll ever forget the IRC channel when Draco gg'd in the last game.
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? Not much more to add, i loved every second of it.
Thanks Teamliquid!

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
The enthusiasm by everyone involved
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
I'm not sure if you released the finals replays (you released so many so I'm just making a really minor point) but if you didn't because of sponsorship issues you could maybe hack a loading screen and do stuff like add razor logos or doodads on a hacked map so that the replays could be released.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
No not really. I used Windows Media Player and an external IRC player because i could have the two side by side whereas to watch on the website I would have to scroll up and down to watch and type.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
The fact that everybody who made it very far had to earn it (basically the ladder stage). Also the emphasis on integrity and fair play.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
Maps could have used a bit more variety, at least for the final/semifinal stages. Too much twilight, too much 4-player, relatively standard maps. I'm not saying put in Demon's Forest, but something to spice it up a bit if possible. Everything else seemed pretty great, aside from a few minor things that were just a bit off due to it being the first time through.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
Seems cool, maybe more useful for people who don't browse TL.net daily. I just used it to link to the stream, which I watched with WMP.
Did you use TSLD at all?

This is the first big foreign tournament I've witnessed. It'll all be pretty memorable.

Well done. Looking forward to TSL2, GO ZERG!

It would be pretty epic to see the screen turn black the moment the clock strikes midnight kind-of-thing. I don't think it has much to do with technical difficulties; just start the stream earlier and have Hot_Bid hit it at the right time. What did you think about the Razer TSL website? What was the feature you liked most about TSL? - English high quality (=knows bw well) commentary and close-to-live broadcasts
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? - would be nice with some more action broadcasted, like interviews and discussions, maybe showing examples of JFs reaver micro before JF game etc.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? - Didn't use it much because tl.net had everything I needed
Did you use TSLD at all? - what's that?
Rank your top three commentary teams - combinations of artosis, chill and day[9], with chill + day[9] at third place (started not so well, came stronger so this combo does obviously have potential!)

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
"Live" broadcast.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
SE bracket isn't exatcly fair for this kind of a tournament, a DE bracket would suit it more.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
It's awesome, but I didn't use it too much.
Did you use TSLD at all?
No.

Artosis and Chill were the best. Chill and Day were fine, too. No idea about the 3rd.
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)
Awesome quality of (some of the) games played in the tournament. JF taking the final 3-2 after a 0-2 start, Dreiven 2-0'ing Mondragon. $10k prize pool.
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?
TSL achieved it's peak way too soon. There was nothing you could have surprised us with in the last weeks and it became a bit boring (despite being bloody awesome at the same time ). Also, time-wise, the schedule wasn't very Europe/Asia-friendly
|
What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
Ah, there was so much. I guess I'd have to go with the overall idea of a tournament with a major prize pool that attracted all of the best foreign players (well, not Chinese) that was commentated in English. Is that too broad?
But the side things were great as well: the artwork, the interviews, the truly awesome overlays on the replays (that only got better at the end). BTW, can these overlays be done on live games as well?
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
Well, in the qualifying stages, there were some hitches with the policy on hackers and suspected hackers: statements, retractions, controversies. It would have been nice had this gone more smoothly, but I don't reckon that it'll be a problem in the next TSL. In the tournament itself: can't think of anything (besides stream going down, I guess).
Oh, one extremely minor thing--this isn't really a "needs improvement" area as much as something that would have been a nice touch--every time I saw that picture of all the contestants, I thought that it would be cool if it was updated to show only those who were left in the tournament. They finally did that in the finals, but then they skipped the very last step, which would have been to blink out Draco's picture at the end, leaving IefNaij as the last man standing.
Like I said, though, extremely minor, almost not worth mentioning.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
Very nice graphically, but as others have pointed out, it had little original content. I hardly used it at all. When I watched the live streams, I would go there first, but it would always end up freezing, and I would switch to Media Player.
Did you use TSLD at all?
Only a little, but the more games are played, the more useful it will become.
Rank your top three commentary teams
Easier to rank the commentators:
1. Artosis 2. Chill 3. Manifesto 4. Everyone else
Actually, although I know that not everyone agrees with me here, my favorite commentary team is Gentho/Artosis (from Ascension). Gentho may not know the game as well as, say, Chill, but he has a pretty good understanding of it, and more to the point, he and Artosis really worked well together. Maybe Gentho could appear in the next TSL, as a guest commentator at least.
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)
I'm somewhat biased because I was rooting for IefNaij from the beginning, but for me the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL was definitely the last moment, when Draco gg'ed, and JF was officially TSL champion, after going down 0-2. Nice to have the most dramatic match be the finals.
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?
Great job. I'm still amazed that this whole thing was pulled together in a couple of weeks.
Also, I agree with Oxygen, bo7 finals would be good. Kinda put the finals on a higher level.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? - The high quality games. From an organizational point this means prizes and deciding to make qualification stage a ladder that required players to play a lot.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? - Do whatever possible to keep a reliable connection between the casters and observer in the game so we don't get the annoying drop screen. And try to solve whatever is causing the stream to go down.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? - I thought it was nicely made, but never really used it except when I wanted to watch the games live. The brackets weren't updated as the games were played. The results section didn't look right in my internet explorer browser with the vod link standing on top of the results (looked fine in firefox). Because of the placement of the java irc chat thing and embedded player, you couldn't watch and talk there at the same time.
Did you use TSLD at all? - Didn't seem very useful. Stats don't mean a lot unless a lot of games are played. It might feel more relevant after a few seasons are played through if the same people keep qualifying.
Rank your top three commentary teams - 1 Chill/Artosis 2 Artosis/Artosis's dog 3 Artosis/Chill/Manifesto7
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) - Opening day when artwork was revealed and the OSL-like intro. I never expected all that.
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? - Very good tourney taking into account it is all done online.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? Commentary cand the videocasts closely followed by the large price pool and of course all the effort TL staff put into this event and against cheaters.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? I'd love to see real livecasts and not replays but I know its something you can't change In terms of professionality I'd prefer reallife photos of the players over the drawn images. They were pretty good though. The player info-sheets could also feature more background information on the players (or at least the casters could tell us more about the players background). Sometimes I would've liked to read interviews with the losers of some matches, like Draco in the finals. Would be interesting to see how the loser experienced the match.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? No, I rarely visited it. Imho it was missing a large tournament tree with all the results already played and the current standings and the way to go for the participants. And an overview of all the casting dates with links to the VODs. And as long as one could get all important information on TL.net there was no need to go to the tournament website.
Did you use TSLD at all? No, I didn't use it even once. But I will definitely do in the future when there are more results of upcoming TSL seasons. It'll pretty interesting to see the map and player statistics after 2 or 3 seasons of TSL.
Rank your top three commentary teams Artosis + Day[9] Chill + Artosis Chill + Day[9] The other casters didn't appear often enough to seriously rank them higher than Artosis, Chill and Day[9].
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) Dreiven defeating Mondragon 2-0 and Hot_Bid hitting the stream to death, lol. And ofc KATOAN, the real winner of season 1!
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? Cheaterfree tournament > all. And PLEASE let the chinese players participate in the future. Do some lag-tests with the chinese players once they reach Top48 and if they're ok, let them play. It'll be so much better with chinese players!
|
What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
The professionalism of the whole tournament, inforcing rules, handling complaints, explaining decisions, having lag tests and making the players show up.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
More interactive stuff for the community like the commentary contest or even more artwork are always good. I would've also liked to see some more analysis on the front page or in the forums, maybe you could get different knowledgeable people together to discuss the games?
Overall, the quality of the games was good but rarely outstanding. I realize this is a community tournament specifically designed to bring new life to the foreign community but if there was some way of including Koreans without screwing the foreigners over I would enjoy it even more.
Edit: Just remembered, the format was weird, the round 2 qualifiers were double elimination bo3 but the Ro16 and Ro8 only single elimination bo3?
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
I didn't use it much but thought it was well done, simple and clearly arranged instead of trying to be fancy.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
excellent commentary with min/gas/supply overlay.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
Everything was excellent. the 'camera controller' could have followed the main action more closely. a new intro for the final ala MSL would have been amazing.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?

Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
The intro perhaps?
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
The maps. I was feeling seasick after watching game after game on those twilight maps (i honestly turned it off a couple of times because I couldn't stand all that blueness). I guess the balance of the maps was decent (if you pick maps from the current proleague, were every map is imbalanced in some direction, it's hard to get a good balance). I think you should choose maps more freely (older ones are just as good) and think about the visual part as well. I think there's a reason why OGN and MBCgame split up the different tilesets a bit and hardly ever put two tilesets after each other.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
Not really. It looked good though.
Did you use TSLD at all?
Hardly any, just to look up which players were in the same team as others.

I don't remember any teams but chill and artosis were good. Although some phrases got a little bit over used like: "nice psi storms - All Over the Place!!!!" I laughed painfully every time I heard that phrase, try as much variation as possible.
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)
When the only promising zerg player got knocked out almost instantly. I knew that it would be a lesser tournament after that. (zerg are fun to watch)
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?
The one thing I really wanted to point out was the maps. Had there been some variation (no two twilight maps after each other for instance) I would have enjoyed it a lot more. It dulled down every bit of excitement I had (not to mention that one of the maps were wuthering heights, what a piece of shit map to watch. I mean, there's a reason that 98% of PL-games on it are TvT).

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? the commentating and the great stream!
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? the system after the group stage was rather simple - bo3 and bo5 direct elimination.. something more complicated would've been more exciting imho there was no video stream for a large part of the tournament (only audio which was lol) the mappool could've been better

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? The community involvement when it was started. iCCup was so much fun to be on and the discussion and anticipation was great. Also watching the old guard battle it out for qualification was good. pity they couldnt have lasted longer.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? Chinese players, Some slight stream problems, Broadcast from RO32
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? I thought it was a good site and would have probably used it alot more if the stream had worked better for me there.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? the money to attract players the ladder stages the stream + commentary
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? - camera movement. this really comes down to repitition as you'll get better the more you do it. however, i wish that the camera would follow the commentary more or vice versa. sometimes the camera lingers too much on unimportant stuff; i.e. buildings and even sometimes armies doing nothing and miss out on harrasment.
- variety in music and artwork. some songs were overused, and yes, the intro was overused as well. i know it takes a lot of work to make an intro, but showing the same one over and over got tedious. perhaps now that TSL is more known, you can use artists from around the SC community.
- the map pool. forget the "balance issues". imo, long and exciting games are very map dependent, and the ones chosen for the tournament could have been better.
- the ro32 was a little messy in terms of coverage. it was your first time doing such a thing so i'm sure it will be better the next time around.
- there was a lot of hype running up to the announcement of TSL but little during. it's a lot of work, i know, but try to keep the hype up through the whole thing. create more connections between the whole SC community and the tournament. this could be done through more interviews, cheerfuls, prizes, etc.
- suggestion really. have someone make a really large and nice looking bracket; i.e. the NCAA mens basketball tournament, including all 48 players. that would be really nice.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? only used it to watch the stream
Did you use TSLD at all? just heard of it
Rank your top three commentary teams artosis, day, and chill were excellent; combine any two of them although to be fair, i didn't watch too much of the ro32 matches so i don't really remember vaul and the others
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) the probe intro; never got tired of that one Brat_Ok
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? overall, TSL was a very well run and fun tournament and i can't wait for the next one (when is it btw). the stream was excellent for the most part. you guys should be very proud.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? The whole thing was great - my favorite single feature was the "minerals mined in the last minute" part of the overlay. It really helps tell who is ahead, especially in mirror matches.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? I want to see more interviews with the losers, as well as more live interviews with players after their games.
Rank your top three commentary teams artosis chill and day of course, any permutation.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
The casting. Artosis was great :-). Also the whole art - music, pictures, videos. It was IMO much better than Korean StarLeagues and... I could finally understand the casting :-).
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
I did not like 2 things about TSL: tournament structure and casting time. I would prefer old OSL format with group stage of 16 and then group stage of 8. It's much more fair. Casting time was horrible for me. It begins at 22:30, most people in my country have to get up in 8 or less hours and go to work if it's on Sunday... It's OK if there are 4-5 games scheduled, but not 10...
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
I did not like it. It lacked information (I couldn't even find how much money is there for each place!), also the layout didn't seem clear for me.
Did you use TSLD at all?
I did when I saw the news. Later I just couldn't find it!
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)
There are many. I will surely remeber JF's comeback in the finals, even though I was cheering for Draco. It was really impressive! I will also remember Dreiven beating Mondragon and Dinot quater final game on Wuthering Heights.
Also the quotes like "I dont think we're gonna see Brat take another base until he expands" or "He's going to have to time his push to hit the sweet spot" -> "Here comes the big, hard, huge push!" made it an event worth of remembering .
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? Make a live stream . It's always a different level of emotions when ypu're watching it live!

I know that many of the things that I suggest might be unfeasible but I'm saying them because they might be.
What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
The professional nature of the tournament, with regularly scheduled broadcasts, matches and good commentary.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
More active monitoring of cheating during the tournament (maybe even have some outside people do the grunt work of checking and if they find a hack then before anything is said/decided, someone from the TL staff could check the replay themselves). Better communication between the camera and the commentators. Oh, and the video on the Razer site required it to be fullscreened, which was very annoying. I like the IRC/video stream setup but that's kinda useless if you have to fullscreen just to see the stream. It might be good to 3 commentators, each of which plays a different race at a high level, and switch between the three depending on the matchup so that they can offer some really good insight into the thought process of hte matchup. It just isn't the same if the commentators don't play the race.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
It was alright, but I found the VLC stream much more convenient because you didn't need to fullscreen it.

Competition, the whole idea of a great tournament open for everybody! We haven't had this in Brood War community since forever. Inactives became active again, the community lifted enormously, even other followers of esport from other games became interested in what you were doing!
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
Advertising, the lag fear (although it might have been better this way, I'm not really sure), and some disruptions in the stream. Also the bannings of chinese players + the hacker made the ladder stage slightly chaotic. I agree with it but those decisions should be made before the whole thing starts.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
Only for stream. Nice art and graphics on it though, maybe a little too much in comparison with the info on the site.
Did you use TSLD at all?
No, I didn't even know about it until now.

ANYONE WITH CHILL. I love him! so something like this:
1. chill + artosis 2. chill + hotbid (yeah I know, too bad ) 3. chill + day
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)
Being able to play all the top foreigners in the ladder stage . And all the strong reactions for and against Draco in his interviews (personally I'm a fan).
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?
I think that sums it up.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
I loved the artwork, and the quality of the commentary.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
Well occasional updates on upgrades would help,in Brat and NonY finals,it was like 5 minutes before the cameraman finally clicked on a terran unit so I could see the upgrades..
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
It looked nice,I used it 5-6 times and to look at brackets, but i mostly used the WMP stream.
Did you use TSLD at all?
Yeah quite alot.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? The outstanding coverage and great cast.

That only happened once and we took care of it afterwards (most of the time we had referees in the game, except when it lagged too much, and used the replays of the referee anyway).

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
The most attractive feature for the TSL for me is the fact that it is a foreign starleague. It's really fun to think that now the common foreign starcraft player has a chance to play in a starleague themselves. Anyone can enter the TSL, you don't have to live in a certain area, and there is a decent prize pool involved.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
1. What was being commentated on wasn't neccessarily what was on camera or vice versa. It was really annoying when a commentator would go on and on about so-and-so's economy but the camera man was showing a psi storm drop that had come and gone. I noticed Manifesto7 would guide the camera with his comments by saying things like, "If we look at so-and-so's base you will see that he is making a templar archives." The cameraman is queued to follow the comments and helps them be in sync. The cameraman needs some way to tell the commentators that he is watching a point of excitement and vice versa.
2. Day[9]. I have a love and hate relationship with his commentary. He would at times, provide really deep and insightful comments to the game that Artosis and Chill didn't always touch on - that I really liked. If I wanted a Brood War coach, Day[9] would on that list. Here is my gripe, from an pure entertainment standpoint, I couldn't stand the way Day[9] worded things. Too many things were "SO important" or "EXTREMELY crucial." I'm sure he did not mean it this way, but it came off as fake. Also during player's profiles he would simply read off the stats to us which I found to be annoying. I can read the stats myself, and I'm sure he has some other insight to the player that is not on the stat sheet which he can touch on. If I'm sitting here with a bag of chips trying to enjoy a Brood War match, Day's commentary was not welcome to my ears. Let me put it this way, take Day's good comments and put them behind Artosis' voice you would have gold. Anywho, take this comment with a grain of salt, as it is my mere honest opinion.
3. I'm pretty sure that the commentator's can see the replay length. The only times I found this irritating is when the commentator's would say, "He's going to tap out any second now." I'm pretty sure this is due to the fact that they can see the replay length. The audience cannot see the replay length so I would ask that the commentator's do not make such comments that give away the match ending at any moment.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
I liked the website alot, however it wasn't updated very quickly after match results.
Did you use TSLD at all?

Artosis/Chill. I also liked Manifesto7.
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)
Definitely Dreiven defeating Mondragon.
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?
Sometimes, if a player left the game early it was really abrupt. I'm thinking back to one of the Draco vs. Nony games, where Nony saw that Draco's army was much larger than his and conceded there. However we didn't get the "Nony has left the game" message and it really felt like, "oh that's it?" I think it would be more helpful to use the game winner's or referee's replay so we can have the "so-and-so" has left the game message, as an official indication of who won.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? The practically lag free stream. While it had a few hiccups now and then, I think it was absolutely awesome overall. The only time I've ever had a stream as fast and reliable as TSL's was during the GSI tournament. And they had much much bigger budgets to work with.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? The commentators stepped over each other a bit with the exception of Artosis and Chill, for whatever reason they seem to have really good chemistry and just work. I like what Day9 adds to the commentary, just didn't seem to mesh with Artosis as well as Chill did. Day9 seems like he fits the same slot as Artosis in TSL commentary in that both seem to want to do the blow by blow commentary. Having more defined roles as to who is doing play by play and who is doing strategy might smooth things over. Gentho and Artosis seemed to have that worked out very well in Ascension, not sure if Artosis and Chill discussed it beforehand but they also seemed to just fit.
There was a bit of an interview with Nony at one point, would like to see more of that. As we saw this season, sarcasm and jokes can really be misinterpreted when presented entirely through text. What with all the crap about "X player is so arrogant blah blah..." and "OMG DRACO'S PRACTICE IS A LIE" douchebaggery going on. I think speaking to the players live, on the air so to speak, would clear things up a great deal and bring the viewers even closer to their favorite players.
I only used the TSL chat room once on the first day and never used it again due to lack of moderation and general spam. Not sure if it improved later, I hope it did. I stayed in #teamliquid anyway.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? Not a huge fan of the layout, could be made a bit cleaner but that's just nitpicking. The content is great though, I used the Coverage section all the time to help fill in my friends that missed an episode or two. Very nice to have. I used the VLC stream instead of the browser stream since it would sometimes go blank or something as I shuffled around windows.
Did you use TSLD at all? Yes, but unless I'm missing something there is no easy link to it anywhere on the site. I resorted to clicking the "TLPD" button on the right and then changing the "TLPD" part of the url to "TSLD" in order to get to the TSLD. Just like the TLPD though, the TSLD was a great resource and I used it to hunt down vods and stats quickly and easily. Passed it along to my friends too.
Rank your top three commentary teams 1) Artosis + Chill 2) Day9 + Chill 3) Artosis + Day9
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) The Probe intro. lol Too many great moments during the games to remember them all, the Polish Draco fanboy horde, the spamming of "DOWN" during the intro, and probably more I can't recall right now. Lots of great moments.
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? Not right now. Just an overall awesome tournament. Thanks everyone.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? I think the organization of the event was amazing. Considering the short amount of time it went from idea to actually happening, wow. The casters were great, I especially liked the Artosis + Chill casting team, great job guys. The live streams were great, the overlays were very well done. The obs overall did well I think, the only downside was when the casters were talking about one thing and we were seeing another. However, sometimes the obs caught things the casters didn't and in that case it was good.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? What could be done better? Who knows, I'm sure 90% of TL visitors don't know. Surprise us like always, we'll be waiting to be amazed yet again by the TL staff.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? The website was good. Only thing I could suggest is making the player names in the coverage area clickable to a link to their TSLPD profile (like the pictures were, but say, in the brackets and such)
Did you use TSLD at all? Not too much, but next time around I will for sure. Especially for Liquibet to get a good feel for what players did in TSL1.

What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) Ambition and the hype. Even though a lot of people guessed what was coming and guessed correctly, the hype was awesome. TSL turned out to be nothing short of amazing and outdid the hype in my opinion. Mondragon losing was huge as well, a lot of people expected him to take it all very very easily. JF's amazing finals.
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? We <3 you Hot_Bid, sorry I contributed to your weeks of clearing out your PM box. You can thank Chill

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
Hard to say, as the event on a whole was so awesome, but live coverage with english commentaries & video overlays really made it shine.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
None, it was already awesome. That being said, it's always possible to strife for more, so a couple of things (although I want to make a strong point to say that the event was great, so take it as suggestion for improvement rather than criticism):
- Sometimes in the earlier rounds it wasnt so clear where you can find information about the standings. There was a main thread in the TSL forum, but it didnt have results updated, so you had to dig around in the forums/comments. It would be nice to have a standard format (like in the later rounds), where it's also easy to find results if you missed the match and want to know - Sound equalizing in the earlier rounds, worked well towards the end - Little stream hickups - Some caster combinations worked out better than others (eg Chill/Artosis/Day combos worked very well). Some other combos, or rather their styles and approaches, were also very interesting and would be worth bringing back for another try, perhaps after some internal practise (cues for each other etc). For example I liked Yannis' approach of asking questions, developing this a bit further could turn out interesting. - Casters as everyone else have favourite phrases/words, some maybe overused a bit in the heat of the moment, but I'm sure time will solve this just fine - Recaps/reviews/digests/highlights would be really awesome to have (see last question)
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
I didnt use it much, standings and brackets could have been a bit more verbose. The mouseover bracket highlighting was ok, but not so easy to follow in the later stages of the tournament.
Did you use TSLD at all?
Hardly. That being said, I used it more often than the TLPD, so not really significant.

1. Chill/Artosis 2. Day + X 3. Vaul for not having an american accent ;-) and Yannis for mixing this up by being different
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)
Difficult to say, but probably seeing the intro (both probe + players) for the first time. There were some great matches and moments that really stood out, but as time passes match moments get mixed up in my head and the intro was so unique that I guess it'll stay. Maybe it also has to do with the excitement of watching the first live game of the TSL on big screen, full volume etc :-)
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?
Once again, it was really great, and I'd love to see a second instalement!
I also would like to mention that I liked the strategical/bo/etc explanations by the casters (eg. explanation of fake-double, potential advantages of builds/counters etc), Yannis' type questions etc thrown in every now and then. I think it's important to keep this in the cast, to also allow spectators who are new to the game to gain some insight. Sure, most of the commentaries should focus on the action, but given some time these things make the report much richer. The same also goes for player-style/personality analysis, eg references to mind games like a player known to play straight up, safe, with mid-late game focus to suddenly cheese (eg Draco vs JF game 1), etc; or answering questions from the IRC channel (even if it was about the natural ... maybe it helped someone, and it was amusing to the rest). Thanks again to all the casters!
I already mentioned reviews/recaps/highlights earlier. I do realize that implementing this would be a huge effort and may not be feasible, but it imho would be a nice idea nevertheless. There are two aspects to this. Firstly, the qualification stages. Obviously it would be too time consuming and unfeasible to have live casts of all these games. Having replays is great, but not everyone has enough time to follow all of them, so you kind of rely on someone else recommending good games to watch. Furthermore, whilst it's nice to have replays, I much more enjoy watching a well done commentary. Thus I was thinking it would be nice to have a video "digest" of a qualification day, similar to what you see in sports shows on TV, loosely following this format. Pick some games with epic moments, and show a few minutes of key moments of each, with commentary, and a summary of all results at the end. This would maybe be aiming to be a ~30-60min video, with maybe openers, key moments, deciding battles of let's say ~5-7 games, and some stats/result tables in between. This need not be ready on the same day, 1-2 later would also be fine I think.
A second aspect of this would apply to the after game/in between game commentary. It is always nice to have casters summarize key moments/decisions of the game (if there were any), and it would be absolutely awesome to have a replay of the moment after the game (like the half time commentary in soccer, with key chances and goals). Imagine seeing the godly game deciding reaver micro pop-out-pop-in again just after the game. If the referee/obs can take note of these moments, and the video team can prepare a few 10-20sec clips while the casters are casting the game, it could even fit in with the "live" aspect of casting from the replay.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? Hard to pick just one, but probably the commentaries; they helped to really make this feel like a proffessional tournament
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? The only thing that I felt let the tournament down SLIGHTLY was that there was little to differenciate the final from any other BO5 played previously. Obviously a ceremony is out of the question, but perhaps another awesome video to round things off and make them feel complete.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? The website looked very proffessional, and was highly useful if you happened to miss a match, I would have used it more if the embedded video stream worked for me, as it did not I used VLC player which meant I did not go to the site as much.
Did you use TSLD at all? No, but not because I looked on it negatively at all, I don't think it got as much hype as other aspects of the tournament, and so time between matches was spent on more commercial parts of the TSL.
Rank your top three commentary teams Day[9] / Chill Artosis / Chill ummmmm
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) Probably the Dreivan destroying Mondragon upset
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? Just a big thanks to all the staff and everybody involved!

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? The thing I liked most was the concept, meaning an english starleague. The best feature in my opinion was the caliber of players involved and english commentary. I think the money was a big factor in attracting these players, but also all of the details, which include the website, artwork, intro videos, etc. These all help make it more prestigious which also attracts players probably as much as the money.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? Like I said initially, the best thing about the TSL is that it is an english stargleague. So the differences between it and a korean starleague are the things that needs to be "improved".
I think that the commentating, which is was of the best features, could also use the most improvement. This is by no means an easy task, as there are people who do this professionally and can always get better. Some goals I would aim for would be:- Try to add some shout-casting excitement into the game. There were some awkward moments when a mine or something went off and a bunch of things died, and there were no comments on it. I'm not sure if it was missed or what. But sometimes it happened when the casters were taking about something else, and only 5-10 seconds later it was mentioned. I think a better way to go might be what the korean casters would do, and I don't know korean, but I assume its something like "Yea, so he's moving his forces north, his econom-- OMG WTF HE LOSES THOSE DRAGOONS TO MINES, THE HUMANITY." Perhaps watch some of the K-man's videos.
- Talk about the map in the beginning of the match, including its name, common strategies, difficulties in the mu, etc. Done to some extent but can always be improved.
Another area is map movement, which is another thing that can be improved indefinitely. My main criticism of this is not clicking on things, for example if there are 10 dragoons that are wounded just click on each one (or select all of them with that program you have). Also click on buildings. The other things, such as going where the action is, will just be improved over time.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? Pretty good, used it to watch live games. One thing to add would be torrent download links in addition to the youtube videos on the coverage page.
Did you use TSLD at all? Did not know about it.
Rank your top three commentary teams All were good, especially artosis and chill.
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) For me I would say it was brat_ok, the russian terran, and only terran, coming out of nowhere and winning everything, only to be stopped ultimately by a seemingly imbalanced map. Will definitely be waiting for the next TSL to see him play.
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? A re-stream might be a good idea. I missed a couple because of the times, although a lot of people might watch it twice. Possibly P2PTV?
Also, the finals coincided with the last week of my quarter.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? I liked the commentators the best. Insightful, funny, and just all around made each match really enjoyable.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? Everything so far is great, but broadcasting like the group stages and Ro32 would be awesome.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? I used it a bit, not too much though.
Did you use TSLD at all? A few times, but I think at this point, there are so few games that have been played in the TSL, it isn't much help. But as more and more games are played, it will get better. But it will be helpful in the future when I want to quickly find/watch one of the vods.
Rank your top three commentary teams Artosis, Chill, and Manifesto.
Day9 was good too, but his microphone kinda took away from his quality. Nony was great too in the recast of Draco vs Strelok.
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) The huge upset between Mondragon vs Dreiven.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL?
You guys organizing the whole event was the best feature!
The top10 replay selection after each week was great (at least for me, as I dont have much time and I really appreciate such things). The 2nd best thing were the VODs obviously.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
Sadly, coverage was the worst part of the TSL. The news on the front page of teamliquid.net would often only direct to the small VOD thread + have a spoiler with the results without any description/other information. Often, you guys would make 1000+ word posts with the predictions of the games, but there would be no aftermath summary news posts.
I missed the battlereports of the games, as I really enjoy reading them (it does not take much time and I dont have much time due to work t_T), but you probably didnt make them because you wanted the people to watch the VODs. Perhaps you could make these "short" descriptions (5-10 lines) with a summary of the games - they could be even spoiler free (e.g. not state the winner).
The youtube VODs would often come late, but that's not your fault basically.. it's the youtube uploading randomness.
Basically, you guys created a fantastic event, but I felt that you didnt give it enough publicity (with news comming every day, some summary of each match etc.). Check GG.net - they create a lot of coverage even for small events (always on the frontpage).
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
What was it? Was there any news leading to it? Some forum post directed to a website with the bracket, but I never managed to find the website again. I only read the news and watched the youtube vods. Or hatchery.teamliquid.net = razer website?
I visited the razer mice website but it wasnt the tsl website.
Did you use TSLD at all?
NO. I dont even know what that TLPD thing is, because you have never made a post about it actually (when you make a post there is also some sort of star, hydralisk etc. no idea how do they work). I often think that the TLPD is the search bar and type things into it..
Rank your top three commentary teams
Chill gave very in-depth info. His only flaw was the fact that he sounds so lifeless and depressed... Get him some vitamins or something or a good dinner, as he make a great job, but need a bit more energy
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come)
Mondragon lossing the games to Dreiven. I dont know how did he lose them. The 2:0 -> 2:3 final was really impressive too. The infested terran replay, from the top 10 replays was great. Not to mention the 9500 replays being published.. (hopefully someone will select the best games out of them).
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?
The person who was "watching" (selecting what to show) the vods seemed to miss a lot of things in the games. Few times drops/battles were missed. In addition, few times the commentators would say something completely different from the things that were happening on the screen whith would be quite commical (e.g. "big battle happening on screen" and the screen would show a 5 vs 5 unit battle..). Also, when the commentators said that "this is the best game I have ever seen" it didnt sound too frank. You guys could also work a bit on your vocabulary, because you seemed to be quite repetitive for native speakers (IDK, say "sons of aiur" instead of protoss etc.)
I hope that you could make some sort of summary thread with the best replays. Unfortunately I dont have much time to browse through them and cant submit any at the moment
Anyway, these are small things that are very easy to be improved and you created a big and fantastic event! Many thanks!

It's all about Razr TSL =)

No I did not use the official tsl website, just youtubed the vods. Drieven killing Mondi was my favorite, such strong plays and fancy 1 base archon strat.

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? Great players, good commentary on a level I was able to understand.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? RO16 and RO8 interviews were pretty boring, only standard questions etc seeing the trailer over and over again, before every game was a bit annoying, even though it was a really nice video

Hi, great to see that you're even willing to improve! So here we go:
What was the feature you liked most about TSL? Definitely the commentated video streams. So professional. The work of the art department (player portraits etc. was absolutely premium, too.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? Imho, a real live cast is the best you could get. I realize that this is hard to do, so the streamed, commentated replays are the next best thing. I would really love to see you collect a little more photos and pictures of the top 16, that way the graphics department would have more to work from, which is always good imho.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? It was pretty neat, but tbh I used VLC player and the forums way more.
Did you use TSLD at all? Yup, sure! Kinda strange though that the TSL winner JF still is listed 2nd. Oh well I guess ELO doesn't lie...
Rank your top three commentary teams Chill + Day[9] Artosis + Chill Vaul + Artosis
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) a) The upset that Dreiven beat Mondragon in the round of 16, so Mondi was out b) The incredible game in the finals where JF's reavers had like 40 kills together (I believe game 4)
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? We all really appreciate what you are doing, and you're doing a fucking great job! I think GOMTv is really annoyed because all our time now went into watching TSL. MSL and OSL probably don't care about the foreigners.
Thanks again!

What was the feature you liked most about TSL? I liked the way how the well made intros, commented video streams, pretty good scheduling and the razertsl webpage made the whole event feel like a professional tournament.
What areas needed improvement in the tournament? A few things quickly come to mind like balancing the volumes before starting casting, making the razertsl webpage more important for the community to increase views (for example moving the razertsl forums completely to that page instead of linking it all back to tl webpage), better video codec (hated how the video and audio froze a little before switching screens and cheerfuls, tho ofcourse that's not your fault), but overall I think the event was mighty succesful.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much? I did use it to see the player rankings, but there really wasn't much more in there, cus most of the stuff just linked back to teamliquid (hence my comment earlier).
Did you use TSLD at all? I did take a look at it, but I think come TSL2 it'll be more interesting to watch player statistics etc from there. I didn't feel it was as valuable for the first season as it will be in the future seasons.
Rank your top three commentary teams Chill + Day[9] Chill + Artosis Chill + Artosis + Manifesto (I gotta mention manifesto, he's kick ass and almost nobody says he was their favourite)
What was the most iconic moment of the Razer TSL? (ie what will you remember this tournament by in years to come) I guess the first time the stream opened and the probe intro came on and IRC was going wild. Also the spam of 3000$ reavers at the end of last game .
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make? Overall I liked the event, good luck finding a song next season that says "up up up" instead of "down down down" <3.

What areas needed improvement in the tournament?
Background info on the players. I want to know what they did, how long they've been in the scene, what teams they've been on. More drama! What about the different teams who have several players each in the TSL. There must be some kind of rivalry between them.
What did you think about the Razer TSL website? Did you use it much?
Never used it, i think it's good for non-TL-homepaged-people
Did you use TSLD at all?
I checked it out once. But at the beginning of the matches, the stats were introduced by the commentators, so I didnt have to lookt it up. I often look em up in korean matches cause i cant understand the commentators. It gives me a little Background on players. I like that.

That I watched all games perfectly live except the finals. I got dropped on game 4. It got very laggy after that. Somehow I hoped you noticed that I lagged out, and that I wasnt the only one, and that you would replay the last 2 games after the show. So I didnt have to wait till the next day to watch the youtubies.
Any further comments about the tournament you would like to make?
it's the only show i stay home for.

Thanks for all your input, Plexa has compiled it and we are going back to our he-man woman haters club to muse.

As Kennigit said, thanks once again for your input; it's very much appreciated. We'll take a lot of useful information from this thread and improve on it. We'll make sure we bring an even better tournament along next time.
