We are now recruiting Pixel Artists, Graphic Designers, and Video Editors!
We all know you love ESPORTS.
You're the first to cry foul when someone is hurting it... but do you think you have what it takes to help ESPORTS?
Or maybe that doesn't matter to you. Maybe you just want people to fear you. Can you handle that kind of power?
Show us.
Graphic Designers
Yes, even though we tweak the graphics at times we know our site still looks a bit old, but don't take that for a sign of poor taste. We consider great graphics to be an important part of our site, whether it means having epic banners in our news posts, sleek images on our front page, or cute icons for our distinguished users. For lack of a better way to put it, we enjoy how cool it makes the site look. With the ESPORTS scene growing by the day, we have found ourselves in need of more skilled artists to help us continue to creating high quality work.
The following examples demonstrate some of the excellent news art created by the TL graphics team:
Additionally we are in need of people to help us with pixel art, for places like the team boxes on posts, user icons, Liquipedia icons and other small touches that make the site sleek. Here are some examples of the kinds of small art we are using now:
Finally, we are also looking for a looking for a skilled video editor who can help us increase the breadth of our coverage by adding in small video pieces for our Youtube channel. These would largely helping cut together features such as our StarCraft and Dota Q&As as well as piecing together highlight reels to help enhance our written coverage as well as stand alone as entertainment pieces.
How to Apply
While we're looking for those three roles specifically, TeamLiquid's graphics staff also contributes to the site in a variety of other ways, and we are accommodating of any kind of talent.
There's no fixed criteria we require from our artists. Don't be afraid of applying even if you haven't received any formal graphics education or possess an unorthodox skill-set. We're providing a list of of generally useful skills to have, but they are in no way required. All that matters is the ability to contribute to TeamLiquid in a creative capacity.
Photoshop
Illustrator
After Effects
Indesign
Pixel graphics
CSS
Freehand illustration
Video editing
Making carriers
If you are interested in contributing, here's how you can apply.
Send an email with the following content to recruitment@teamliquid.net.
Brief introduction of yourself, your graphics background, and list of artistic skills.
Portfolio of your work.
An example of a piece you would do for TeamLiquid.net. This can be artwork for a news post (any league, past or present, real or fictional), a mock up version of any website feature (sidebar, forums, liquibet, icons, etc), any kind of short video, or something totally outside the box.
Please put Graphic Designer, Pixel Artist, Video Editor, or whatever you feel best describes your profile in the subject line.
Once your application has been received, it will be evaluated by the present members of the TeamLiquid graphics team.
All this could be yours! Or maybe one like it with video stuff!
As with the vast majority of TeamLiquid staff positions, this is an unpaid volunteer position. No experience is required. Your sample work will speak for itself!
Hi, my girlfriend works for a company that does "Marketing to college students for job fairs and networking events", she is also mid way through her degree in graphics design at depaul Chicago and is willing to contribute but (due to the position being unpaid) is wondering what the time requirement would be for any of these positions. If it is less than 5 hours per week she would be willing to help. Please get back to me or let me know where i could forward this question to if it is unsuitable inquire here.

From my experience as a writer and based on what I've seen of the graphics guys, there's no time requirement per se. Obviously more than 20 minutes a week is preferrable, but if your girlfriend is willing to put 3 hours on average a week into this, that's three more (useful) hours than before, which never hurts.

nazgul not wanting to share his e-sports dollahs :O I know some young kids that might like this for the experience and the lulz, I'll let them know

Depending on the sort of graphics you'd do it differs. If it's for newsposts then availability is more important than the time (as it takes less than an hour to do the banner graphics usually, so if you put in 5 hours for that and then don't take on any more for that week that's fine, I think). If it's other sort of graphical work then it could work with having 5 hours per week that are dedicated to it that you schedule however you want it and touch base every few days with progress updates. (Say making icons or doing new stylesheets for newsposts)
The website just got a facelift, so I'm betting 10 billions e-sports dollars that TL wants to finally replace the BW icons in the posts header. They're like the only survivors of the original TL.

Eh? If you just started you should be able to do some stuff already right? This might be a good opportunity for practical experience! I'd try it if I were you.

Where's that E-sport money? it's this kind of attitude that "killing" e-sport. You TL don't want shitty looking graphic or video so you'll pick ofc ppl with experience. Why this people shouldn't be paid?? they gonna WORK for you. Because of this for now, e-sport is "you make a company and try to convince ppl to work for you for free".

+1
unless you're worried about workload / being too busy, then i think you're the ideal kind of person to apply!

-sad coyote. :/
I totally agree... that kind of attitude is counter productive in a long run I feel. And it shadows legit designers who need to get paid for their countless hours they spend providing quality content.
I use illustrator, indesign and photoshop quite often as a architectural student for post-production but unfortunately I don't follow the e-sports scene at all anymore.

Getting Teamliquid to hire/import staff would feel like your parents hiring an interior designer to decorate your house. Part of TL's appeal, to me at least, is the family feel and community involvement.

You don't have to follow anything to be valuable to the graphics crew

I swear this has been asked a million times
Where's all WHAT esports money? There's literally 2 ads displayed on TL at any given time... and t-shirt sales don't bring in that much. The server to handle this many people posting on forums isn't cheap, flying an interviewer and camera person to events to get some of the best content in esports isn't cheap. They can probably barely afford to pay the very few staff they have... And that's only a more recent thing. TL was built by the community, for the community. It was not a for profit business owned by some media company.
yeah i'm sure too servers and hosting and globaly run something like teamliquid have ofc a significant price. But why people spending also huge amount of time making graphic and videos don't deserve at least small "payback"? it's the same everywhere in e-sport. "we don't have money blablabla" Every weeks i do lot of stuff for the community, but when i work for a company or a team, it's no more for community, it's about to promote the customer. My statement is: teams and structures abuse too much of the "fame" and make graphic ppl work for free. Over that, i really think TL can afford professionnals. (if TL can't who can?)
so what exactly are you trying to achieve with these wild assumptions on how TL is run and how it should be run in your opinion because you seem to know more than we do
no one is asking you to contribute if you don't want to its hard to believe but people actually contribute because they want to, not because their only goal is to make money here.
This theme pops up every single time theres a recruitment thread, and it never leads anywhere, some people read this with the intention to become a contributor because they want to so can we stop shitting it up please
i'm just saying i would so much like to apply but i can't because when i do something, i do it well and it takes times. not bitching or anything. Just feel it's a pity i can't apply, that's it for me here! hope you'll find your guys! gl hf!
we do stuff well and it takes time and we're happy to do it. i feel great making stuff people enjoy and i doing gfx here is a great way to improve my skills, try out new stuff and build a great portfolio

Although I was on the writers team, the vast majority of my work for TL has been art. Towards the middle and end of the Proleague season, I was putting in some 20-30 hours a week drawing for our articles. I never went to class, my grades went down the toilet, I became basically nocturnal and a complete shut-in. Moral of the story: NEVER WORK FOR TL IT WILL DESTROY YOUR SOUL.
jk. It was fun, rewarding, and worth it. You put in as many hours as you can handle, and everyone will appreciate it because you're saving esports.
Maybe TL should create a public thread for art requests? There's alot of people around who would be willing to throw together something rapidly for an article but cannot commit to a role full time.

There's several problems that arise when we'd do that a) we'd spoil most of our content way ahead of time which is horrible. b) it would actually hinder people just like public competitions do - it is not a good way to spend time should there be more than one person doing something for the same project and one or more of the artists just having to discard their work and time (personal experience)
You don't need to think of this as a full time gig, none of us do this full time. The more you can and want to contribute your time and effort towards the stuff that needs to be done, or stuff you want to spearhead on your own, the better! The work never ends You can spend anywhere from couple hours a day to make banners & dress up existing css templates for news articles and previews to spending 6-8 hours a day for a week straight like I did with Dotalinguistics (linked in the OP) because it was a fun project, and i was on holidays ^_^

I agree to a certain extent but all the problems you mentioned can be worked around. For example:
"I need four images for an article by Tuesday, which will probably take about 4 hours of work and needs a high level of photoshop proficiency, PM me for details."
Anyone interested then emails in and demonstrates their proficiency and availability. Once the right person is found, the initial post is updated to say the vacancy has been filled.
This way no work is wasted as only one person does the content, no specific spoilers are released and TL now has access to a much wider range of people.
You could even give out mini rewards (i.e, shiny icon picture for a week, TL+ for a day, 'Get of Jail' Card to permit one free balance whine in a thread of your choosing... etc).

It's easier to straight up ask someone in the staff than trying to fish around. Especially if it's a last minute thing.
Well there will be a round table conference with fellow TL staff, they will do a very thorough critique and review of your portfolio while enjoying tea and biscuits.

while you would be chained over a fire. Yes there will be one :p
Dang, you spruced that up quick from a couple weeks ago! Glad to see you rebounding so quick J. Clark and the work taking off. Definitely looking to you in the future for some inspiration on my graphics work.
hi, i am a draftsman and painter and a video editor
i realize that me being an old fart is difficult for the tl crew, plus i'm busy working :/
but i always remain hopefull that the issue can be overcomed, furthermore i have been eager to "contribute", to give back for the enjoyement i have gained from tl for years
so here i am, once again offering my services
this is old to the point of outdateness, but it is still me editing video (hasn't been flagged)
in any case, have/make a good tl
edit ps: i'll post graphics once i've uploaded some for your viewing "pleasure" + Show Spoiler +
