Most teams could use 4 or more of him Can you believe that only one New Jersey player has scored a shootout goal this year? I think the TSN guys said that they were 0-20 shooting. now its 1-23. That's borderline unbelievable!

The team keeps sending the same players to do the same lackluster moves in the shootout so I don't really see that improving much in the future.

Coots is seriously gonna be a really great player. Also, I have no problem with that Hank deal. That's a team that's built from the net out. He's been consistently a top 3 goalie every year in his career, and he's the best in the league imo. The Rangers are built to win it in the next 3-4 years. They ain't doing that with Cam Talbot in net, and viable starters don't just come around for long. Anyone who caught the 3rd period of the Buffalo game will understand why he got that contract. Dude was standing on his head, stoppuing several odd man and breakaways. The Rangers are cellar dwellers without him for sure. Don't care for giving him 8.5/yr until he's 38, but it's the price you gotta pay. I also think he's the type of goalie who can still be very good in his later years too. So yeah, slight overpayment, but it's one you gotta do also, about to leave for the city to go to the game wooooo

http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/market-value-nhl-goalies-quickly-becoming-awful-trending-150501420--nhl.html I mean, in a vacuum it's pretty shitty to commit that kind of money to a goaltender at that age - but what were they supposed to do? If anyone deserves it, it's that goalie on that team. He has kept them competitive for years. If I were a Rangers fan I'd be like "shiiiiit" but still be ok with it.

The oddity of the NHL is all the goalies we look at as being good/great are 30+. They don't even get into the league until they are 20 or more years old. But when they get deals we look at them in regular player years and giving a 31 year old a 8 year deal is seen as crazy (all 8 year deals are crazy but this is the way it is right now). Cannt win. But the Rangers didn't lose in this contract and that's usually good enough. The Leafs fans at the Sens game should be kicked out for wrecking that moment of silence for Mandela.

Thug life. No suspension, no fine, no nothing because Ray Emery wasn't suspended for basically the same thing. The NHL will be rewriting the rule book after this year in regards to this kind of bs

Bye bye Thorton for however randomly determined length of time shanahan choose minus a premium for playing in boston (lol wheel of justice) + Show Spoiler + After careful consideration, Shawn Thornton has been suspended for 6 games for his actions on Brooks Orpik. In reviewing this play, we also took into consideration that Shawn Thornton plays for the Boston Bruins, who are mostly un-suspendable. That kind of crap has no place in hockey. Orpik's hit on the Bruin guy was totally clean, shoulder into chest. I agree with his choice to not get his skull pounded in by Thorton. You shouldn't have to answer for clean hits.

Not sure that he was answering for his own hit, to be honest. Pretty sure Thorton came to ring him up for Neal kneeing Marchand in the head. They should both be suspended, really. What Neal did was shitty, but I've never, ever, seen anything quite like what Thorton did there. EDIT: Video of Neal's knee immediately before Thorton's shit storm: https://vine.co/v/hQmUUnDgEnx

Orpik wanted none of him and skated away. Thorton sat for 2 after the attempted mugging.

i hope the pens (which i really like) get rid off neal, he has done enough shit, i don't fucking care how talented and how good a goalscorer he is, i can't watch this shit anymore. it was hard enough liking the pens for the last years with cooke and this dumbfuck asham, i'm done. *edit* when thornton gets skated away by a ref after he tries to kill orpik he looks like he wants to tear a baby to pieces, what a fucking psychopath
