I doubt Steen can produce at his current level all season but if he can then they may be a lock. I am curious what they are gonna do with Jake Allen, won't be long before he demands NHL time. And he's good enough to get it in most cities.

In other news. Red Wings are now 5-1 since Nyquist was up.

The only knock that immediately comes to mind is that they aren't generating a tremendous amount of offense from the blue line, but that is more than made up for by their ridiculous forward corp. They have five forwards scoring at about a PPG pace across three lines. If only the Sharks could get Havlat to be half the player that he used to be. Barring injuries, the only thing that really worries me about this team come playoff time is running into a hot goaltender. But hell, this team is due for a little luck in the postseason. Ya they can roll 3 different great forward lines without actually having to move any player, which is scary but we've seen so many playoff series where the superior-on-paper-sharks just fail its just hard to believe this year they can do it.

With the exception of the series losses to the Oilers, Red Wings, and Ducks, I think it's pretty clear that their other playoff losses were to better teams. Last year, the Sharks were arguably better than the Kings, but Quick played out of his mind.

Something I just noticed. Anti Niemi, with 2 shut outs and 14 wins out of 22 has the same save percentage as ryan miller who has...5 wins. poor miller, so many pucks shot at him on average.

In 08 when the Stars eliminated them they were also the favored team. The Sharks have had a history of playing below what they are on paper or in the regular season for a pretty long time now... Ryan Millers wants a Team USA spot badly I think. Its gonna be the only time this year where he has a chance to win something so I cannt say I blame him. Him playing this good is also skyrocketing his value in trade.

The only reason they were 8th in the standings is because their team save % before acquiring Roloson was last in the league.

They also loaded up at the deadline by trading away everything, litterally paving the way for the following(and current) playoff drought. Anyone see how Bryzgalov got hurt? I couldn't watch the game.

Anyone see how Bryzgalov got hurt? I couldn't watch the game. http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?id=500035 They actually didn't really gut the team for the future at all. We traded a first rounder that ended up in a guy that didn't even crack the AHL. We trade Cory Cross (LOL) for Tarnstrom. We traded a second rounder (Lucic) and Reasoner for Samsonov. While it would be nice to have Lucic now, I dont even think we would have picked him. In fact, we picked Jeff Petry just three picks before Lucic that draft anyway in a pick acquired in the roloson deal. What put the nail in our coffin was the Pronger trade. And the Stoll+Greene for Visnovsky trade. And the Lupul for Pitkanen (for O'Sullivan) trade. And the Smyth for Magic Beans (Nilsson, O'Marra, and 1st round pick (Alex Plante)) trade. And the Kyle Brodziak for Future Considerations trade. And the Torres for Gilbert Brule trade. And the letting Glencross go for 100K to our biggest rival blunder. And the letting Hejda go over 200K blunder. And the not trading Souray for the agreed upon Hartnell + Downie cold feet from Tambelini so that Souray could just sit out and not play blunder. We have made a lot of shitty moves and shitty non-moves over the years. That, and there is the fact that we have a bunch of smurfs, no physicality or size. The fact that anyone and their mom's dog can sit there and say "Wow, that team is one dimensional as all hell!" is pretty ridiculous.

Plus the team is actually playing better in front of Gustavson.
