Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 4h If my bosses at TSN/CTV/Bell want to take a tiny fraction of the billions of dollars they offered for NHL rights and invest it...
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 4h ...We've got a boatload of gifted, hard-working people at TSN who are up for challenge of keeping TSN as THE source for all things hockey.

lol Sportsnet is so awful. They need to bring in Pierre Mcguire to complete the package.

someone please splain in simple murican terms what this deal means. bonus points if it includes booze, gunz and boobz
|
TSN must be losing money like mad. Jay and Dan being bought out and sent to the states and now this? TSN toss some fucking money around.

Nick Kypreos overdoses coast to coast...

Are you talking about the Rogers deal or something else? The Rogers deal doesn't mean anything for Americans unless they get Canadian channels?
The deal for Canadians basically means Hockey Night in Canada will be phased out over the years and shitty coverage for the next 12 years.
|
Why can't Sportsnet just fuck off. Oh well guess we just have to deal with having fewer NHL games on TV covered by shittier pundits for the next decade.
|
Yep, just picture Nick Kypreos sitting at a table with PJ Stock and Kevin Weekes.
THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS.
|
What else is there on TSN to watch anyway? Also..sportsnet? eww. This is a huge step back for Canadian hockey fans. Cant believe Bell got outbid by Rogers as well.

Well there is one silver lining. Games that are on other SN channels at the same time as you local channel will not be blacked out. So that meaningless Oilers/Flames game in April on SNW can be skipped in favor of a Van/SJ game the same night on SNP.
|
Yea it looks like there will be some more choices for Canadian fans for the actual games. Play by play and commentary during the game is rarely high quality for hockey, so not much of a loss honestly. I know the Sportsnet guys suck, but there's a chance they take some of the TSN crew right? I do hope they get Aaron Ward, he speaks the game so well.
As an American viewer, the thing I really like about TSN is the draft coverage.
|
Yeah, in reality, now with national coverage I'm sure the Sportsnet guys are going to significantly up their game. At the very least they might stop broadcasting high-definition in 240p. They've committed so much money to the NHL that I doubt they are going to spare any reasonable expense putting out a good product, especially given that Rogers has infinite money.
I hope some of the TSN guys can moonlight with Sportsnet or at the very least still get access. Bob Mckenzie is the only 'insider' in hockey worth listening to and his draft list every year is the gold standard. I'm hoping that his reduced access to the NHL and players doesn't affect his ability to do a good job.
I hope for the same for some of the CBC guys. Friedman is fantastic and the only 'analytical' guy in mainstream hockey with an opinion worth having. And, having always loved the Saturday night games on CBC, I have a soft spot for Hrudey and Scott Oake. They are great as an entertainment factor in interviews and what-not. Oake's 'padding my stats with Kelly Hrudey' is still one of my all-time favorite segments.

Missing Datsyuk, Bertuzzi, and DeKeyser, Detroit somehow finds itself up 4-0 on Boston. If Datsyuk not playing with Zetterberg means we get to see more of the Detroit Swedish Five, that's fine by me!

As a former Rogers customer I am going to go ahead and disagree with the assertion that now that Rogers has a monopoly theyll plow some money into making it a nice one.
|
also, after 4 games in the big leagues, Gustav Nyquist now has more points than Stephen Weiss and his 4.5 million dollar contract. Also more points than Dan Cleary.

Maybe TSN will grab an AHL deal and show those games. Rogers aint gonna improve its product. No competion = no push to be better.
Anyways, Toronto just got outshot 17-0 in the 3rd vs pittsburgh, 47/24 overall. How the fuck does this team score so many goals yet almost never have the puck? Is the east so bad that Edmonton could compete for division titles?

Just like the Wings after a month of hard sucking are 3rd in the conference. The rest is just pathetic.

Well, the Wings still picked up the loser's point in many of their losses. But you're right in that with the same record, they'd be just out of the playoffs in the West.
|
its not just that, the West just has generally better teams so they would have lost many more games with the mediocre squad they are icing. And Babcock's attempt to rebuild the Wings into the image of the Kings/Blues would accelerate.
