I'm not sure if I hate that jersey or the guy wearing it more. I get why the sabres wont go back to red and white, but they could at least find a more attractive third in their colors right? And wow team canada, is there something in the air this year that makes all jersey concepts crap?

Red Wings fetish with old men continues, Clearly needlessly re-signed, and now some younger player is going to spend the year in GR before getting tired of this bullshit and not re-signing with the Wings. And why? Is that what the Wings were lacking, an elderly, slow, hands of granite guy? Oh I forgot, he is a Canadian so he is a 'character' guy who is 'good for the lockerroom'
And after the Flyers threw Holland such a huge break with that ridiculous contract they offered to Cleary.

Cleary still seems somewhat useful, and it's only a one-year deal. Agreed that the culture of player signing is problematic, but there's no real issue if he underperforms or is injured. If he doesn't play well, you'd hope Babcock starts playing him less and less and gives the younger dudes a shot.

Cleary is going to be getting starts he doesnt need because Babcock, he will play in the top 6 at least 20 games, he will be on the second pp. It will be awful. He is a nice guy but they have Tatar, Nyquist who need to play or else they'll just leave. Why wouldnt they? Get paid 2-3m and be a top 6 player somewhere else or ride the bus in Grand Rapids because Holland signed too many old guys. What pisses me off the most is Holland always talks about 'building within' well building implies replacing broken down old guys with young talent. Not random cast offs like Cleary and Quincy clogging up ice time.

Tartar was talking about possibly leaving to go play in the K if he's stuck in the A again. I don't blame him. Holland out-Homered Homer there. Cleary has no business being in the top 9 over Tartar. sub's right too, he'll find his way into the top 6 for some games for some dumb reason.

I don't really understand what is happening in Detriot, but I hope they work it out. Babcock is a really good coach who usually does the best with what he has. I really didn't think cleary was gonna get resigned, but Detriot does like to retire their player. I hope they do good this year since they are finally in the right conference and they are gonna come to my hometown a lot more.

Babcock is a good coach, but sometimes he needs to be protected from himself. Clearly is his pet project and he keeps sticking him in roles that Clearly no longer has the ability to play in. Its disgusting how Holland and Babcock's biases are having a more and more negative impact on the team. Its like something happened to them in '09 and almost every decision they make now hurts the team.

While I do favor hedging future performance against early paychecks with players of his potential, the deal seems fairly big for what he has accomplished. EDM can really only justify it if they think he's going to be worth significantly more than $6M in the next 2 or 3 years. That's pretty difficult to do, as there are only a handful of those players. Though recent 1/2 overall picks will suggest that he is worth at least that much.
