Believing that God "guided" evolution could mean that you're a pseudo-scientist who makes up "impossible" steps in the evolutionary chain and then attempts to fill those steps with God's magic. But it could also mean that you think God is a watchmaker who set up the initial conditions and laws of nature in such a way to ensure that life would happen by a process of natural selection because that's what he wanted to occur. There's no point getting upset about many Americans believing the latter because theists pretty much have to believe at least that much and we already know that America consists mostly of theists. But the phrasing gives us no way to tell how anti-science the group that selects this choice actually is. The young earth creationism stat is depressing enough either way. | ||
