There is always the chance they realize the futility of what they just did and that they don't try and do it again and maybe actual negotiating can happen. It is unlikely but anything is in fact possible.
So, what was the deal and why was it not pushed earlier? Why did we have to close the gov't for 2+ weeks? Was it not almost the exact same CR that the senate sent to the House weeks ago?
So it looks like the hostage takers failed. Well, at least they got income verification for Obamacare subsidies.
The more interesting question, given that this is, if I'm counting correctly, the 4th budget showdown (Bush Tax Cut Extension 2010, Budget Control Act 2011, Fiscal Cliff 2013, Government Shutdown 2013), will the Republicans attempt this extortionist tactic yet again?
Mark your calendars, the next showdown will quite likely occur on the weeks leading up to 15 January 2014 (keeping government open) and 7 February 2014 (debt ceiling).
The House has fought with everything it has to convince the president of the United States to engage in bipartisan negotiations aimed at addressing our country's debt and providing fairness for the American people under ObamaCare. That fight will continue. But blocking the bipartisan agreement reached today by the members of the Senate will not be a tactic for us. In addition to the risk of default, doing so would open the door for the Democratic majority in Washington to raise taxes again on the American people and undo the spending caps in the 2011 Budget Control Act without replacing them with better spending cuts. With our nation's economy still struggling under years of the president's policies, raising taxes is not a viable option. Our drive to stop the train wreck that is the president's health care law will continue. We will rely on aggressive oversight that highlights the law's massive flaws and smart, targeted strikes that split the legislative coalition the president has relied upon to force his health care law on the American people
and so finaly the shutdown ends. Next up Mid term elections!
No next up we do it all again in January and February.
Theres no way for it to happen again any time soon. what we saw was the last gasp of the tea party trying to connect funding the government to funding obamacare. any other time this happenes the senate republicans are just going to leave the house out in the cold while they cover their ass.
Really surprised that there was never a push for another name for obamacare. you'd really think that they'd create some name for the program that doesn't connect it to a guy who gives off the image of not careing.
Yeah that's exactly the image he is giving... not "careing"
Micronesia had an interesting thing to say about why he thinks Dems let the Reps go through with the name Obamacare.
You don't live in america so you don't get as much of exposure to obama in the public like you would if you lived in america. If you did you'd know obamas thing is to be aloof and above politics.
I can't really accept his explanation about it beacuse then it justifies "redskins" and non black people useing the n word. It seems like the oddiest of things to just accept whatever your opponent calls what you do.
I disagree that it justifies using those words. I believe Obama and the Democrats would much rather nobody use the term "Obamacare" but since they cannot stop people from doing so and it would be bad PR to try, the next best option is to change the emotional response people have to the word.
Also, I would consider Obama and Democrats using "Obamacare" to be more like black people using the n-word and native americans using "redskin", since "Obamacare" is used by people on the right in a derogatory manner.
Anyhoo, nice to see a deal was reached. I wonder if now would be a good time for Boehner to try to negotiate on something like the ACA, since Obama and the Democrats insisted they wouldn't negotiate under threat, it is somewhat implicit that they would negotiate when there is no threat. I think it is unlikely they would, but I wonder if there is some way Boehner could spin this.
I don't criticize governments of other countries because there are so many problems with government in my own country. But why not to have a good laugh if the jokes are funny:
the house republicans couldn't even agree on their own bill at the end. senate had to make a bill. 24billion dollars wasted for shit. thank you tea party.
